Abstract Endodontic and periodontal infections can be difficult to differentiate from one another and often share common clinical features making diagnosis challenging. The aim of this review is to discuss endodontic and periodontal infections in situations where they occur concurrently, or where one influences the other. The available literature investigating endodontic and periodontal infections was examined for contemporary knowledge regarding endodontic-periodontal interactions. Strategies to facilitate diagnosis and treatment planning are discussed. When endodontic and periodontal infections occur together, or signs and symptoms are similar, diagnosis can be challenging. Determining the primary source of infection is imperative to ensure appropriate treatment planning. The pulp and periodontal tissues are intimately related, with many possible pathways for infection from one to the other. Diagnosis of the primary source of the infection can be difficult and sometimes an inter-disciplinary approach to treatment is required. © 2023 Australian Dental Association.

Abstract This article examines the making of clinical care by tracing how music therapists integrate their work within North American hospitals. Situated on the margins of the clinic, music therapists are in pursuit of clinical recognition-to be perceived and understood as valuable to biomedicine. The pursuit of clinical recognition illustrates how the configuration of care is an aesthetic concern, negotiated not only through processes of reasoning and rationalization but also through sensory-affective experiences. Music therapists cultivate a clinical aesthetic to their care by demonstrating clinical efficacy to their medical colleagues and self-fashioning clinical subjectivities through participation in medical rounds and charting. While clinical recognition creates conditions of possibility for music therapists to provide care in biomedical institutions, recognition is perpetually elusive for hospital music therapists. By cultivating sonic atmospheres and connections, music therapists disrupt and exceed a normative clinical aesthetic, illustrating ways of caring in the clinic beyond biomedical scripts.

Abstract Endodontic treatment can be challenging for a number of reasons, including the microscopic nature of the clinical environment, reliance on tactile sensation and lack of direct visualization of the work being performed. Commonly, endodontic patients present with pain and distress, which can exacerbate an already difficult clinical situation. Complications may might arise prior to, or during treatment, despite practising with the utmost care and skill. Preventing and managing these complications can take considerable time and energy, and oftentimes assistance from or referral to more experienced colleagues is required. The aim of this review is to discuss medico-legal considerations in endodontics, with clinical correlations and a focus on the Australian legal landscape.

Abstract Involuntary housing displacement is a stress-inducing life event that can cause and exacerbate both psychological and material hardship. Forced moves may invoke a disattainment process, whereby displaced movers move into lower quality housing and neighborhoods, placing them in a precarious housing position. Employing propensity score analyses, this study uses data from the recent mover module of the American Housing Survey to match recent movers whose moves were voluntary to recent movers whose moves were forced. Results show that moves caused by displacement compared to voluntary moves generally lead to worse housing and neighborhood outcomes. However, these results are dependent on the type of displacement experienced. Movers forced to leave their homes due to eviction move into worse housing and neighborhoods while forced moves caused by private action and foreclosure do not. Meanwhile, forced moves caused by natural hazards or government action result in worse housing, but not neighborhoods.
