Abstract Developing fire-retardant building materials is vital in reducing fire loss. The design and preparation of novel fire-retardant coatings merely require the adhesion of flame retardants with high fire-retardant characteristics on the surface, which is significantly more economical than adding excessive amounts of flame retardants into bulk building materials. Meanwhile, fire-retardant coating has excellent performance because it can block the self-sustaining mechanisms of heat and mass transfer over combustion interfaces. In recent years, research of fire-retardant coatings for building materials has been subject to rapid development, and a variety of novel environmentally benign fire-retardant coatings have been reported. Nonetheless, as the surface characteristics of various flammable building materials are contrastively different, selecting chemical ingredients and controlling the physical morphology of fire-retardant coatings for specific building materials is rather complicated. Thus, it is urgent to review the ideas and preparation methods for new fire-retardant coatings. This paper summarizes the latest research progress of fire-retardant building materials, focusing on the compositions and performances of fire-retardant coatings, as well as the principles of their bottom-up design and preparation methods on the surface of building materials.

Abstract Background: Understanding the paths that influence professional commitment among nursing students is important for helping students continue the nursing profession after graduation. The paths between the teaching behaviours of clinical teachers (TBCT) and professional commitment were unknown.
Objectives: This study aimed to examine whether psychological well-being mediated the relationships between the teaching behaviours of clinical teachers and professional commitment of nursing students. Moreover, we investigated whether the mediating effects of psychological well-being were moderated by optimism.
Design: A cross-sectional design was conducted.
Setting and participants: A total of 318 students from 24 hospitals in 13 cities in northern, north-eastern, and eastern China were included in the study.
Methods: The instruments used in this study included the scale of teaching behaviours of clinical teachers, a brief inventory of thriving (measuring psychological well-being), a life orientation test (measuring optimism), and a professional commitment scale. The PROCESS macro for SPSS was used to perform mediation analysis and moderated mediation analyses.
Results: Psychological well-being of nursing students partially mediated the relationships between the teaching behaviours of clinical teachers and professional commitment of nursing students. Also, optimism moderated the indirect effect of this mediation model. The indirect effect of clinical teachers' teaching behaviours was stronger for nursing students with low levels of optimism.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that the teaching behaviours of clinical teachers and psychological well-being promote professional commitment. In addition, the mediation of psychological well-being between the teaching behaviours of clinical teachers and professional commitment was conditional on different levels of optimism. Clinical teachers should pay special attention to students with low levels of optimism because teaching behaviours of clinical teachers exert more influence on those students' professional commitment.

Abstract The SARS-CoV-2 virus has been raging globally for over 2 years with no end in sight. It has become clear that this virus possesses enormous genetic plasticity, and it will not be eradicated. Under increasing selective pressure from population immunity, the evolution of SARS-CoV-2 has driven it towards greater infectivity, and evasion of humoral and cellular immunity. Omicron and its expanding army of subvariants and recombinants have impaired vaccine protection and made most antibody drugs obsolete. Antiviral drugs, though presently effective, may select for more resistant strains over time. It may be inevitable, then, that future SARS-CoV-2 variants will be immune to our current virus-directed countermeasures. Thus, to gain control over the virus, we need to adopt a new paradigm in searching for next-generation countermeasures and develop host-directed therapeutics (HDTx) and host-directed antivirals (HDA). Different from the virus-directed countermeasures, HDTx and HDA may offer variant agnostic treatment to reduce the risk and severity of infections. In addition, they may exert more uniform effects against the genetically diverse SARS-CoV-2 quasispecies, thereby diminishing the risk of selecting resistant variants. Some promising HDTx and HDA approaches are summarized here.

Abstract Objectives: Explore the relationship between adult attachment and depression among college students, and the mechanism of perfectionism.
    Study design: Questionnaire survey.
Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted nationwide, totally 313 valid questionnaires were received. The survey collected information such as adult attachment (Adult Attachment Scale, AAS), depression (The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale, CESD), and perfectionism (The Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, FMPS). Then used SPSS26.0 to analyze the collected data.
Results: There were significant differences in perfectionism and depression between secure attachment and insecure attachment in college students. Perfectionism plays a partial mediating role in the relationship between the close-depend composite dimension, anxiety dimension of attachment and depression.
Conclusion: The closeness-dependence dimension of attachment significantly and negatively predicted perfectionism and depression; the anxiety dimension of attachment significantly and positively predicted perfectionism and depression; and perfectionism partially mediated the effect of both the closeness-dependence dimension of attachment on depression and the anxiety dimension of attachment on depression. Attachment can directly affect college students' depression, but also indirectly through perfectionism.

Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disorder intricately linked to genetic factors, with numerous approaches having identified genes linked to its development, diagnosis and prognosis. Despite genome-wide association analysis and gene knockout experiments confirming some genes associated with SLE, there are still numerous potential genes yet to be discovered. The search for relevant genes through biological experiments entails significant financial and human resources. With the advancement of computational technologies like deep learning, we aim to identify SLE-related genes through deep learning methods, thereby narrowing down the scope for biological experimentation. This study introduces SLEDL, a deep learning-based approach that leverages DNN and graph neural networks to effectively identify SLE-related genes by capturing relevant features in the gene interaction network. The above steps transform the identification of SLE related genes into a binary classification problem, ultimately solved through a fully connected layer. The results demonstrate the superiority of SLEDL, achieving higher AUC (0.7274) and AUPR (0.7599), further validated through case studies.

Abstract Background: Identifying important factors contributing to depression is necessary for interrupting risk pathways to minimize adolescent depression. The study aimed to assess the prevalence of depression in high school students and develop a model for identifying risk of depression among adolescents.
Methods: Cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 1190 adolescents from two high schools in eastern China participated in the study. Artificial neurol network (ANN) was used to establish the identification model.
Results: The prevalence of depression was 29.9% among the students. The model showed the top five protective and risk factors including perceived stress, life events, optimism, self-compassion and resilience. ANN model accuracy was 81.06%, with sensitivity 65.3%, specificity 88.4%, and area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves 0.846 in testing dataset.
Conclusion: The ANN showed the good performance in identifying risk of depression. Promoting the protective factors and reducing the level of risk factors facilitate preventing and relieving depression.

Abstract Background: Successful adaption to the increasing demands of the healthcare system involves self-directed learning (SDL) approach, which contributes to professional values and academic and clinical performance. Although many factors are related to SDL, research examining the association between internal factors such as loneliness, mindfulness and optimism with self-directed learning is limited.
Objective: This study aims to examine the association between loneliness, mindfulness, and optimism with self-directed learning.
Methods: A cross-sectional design was conducted, and study participants included 568 nursing students from higher education institutes in North, East and South China from May 2020 to October 2020. Data collection instruments included socio-demographics, the self-directed learning scale, the loneliness scale, the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, and the Life Orientation Test. Hierarchical multiple regression and moderation analyses were used to analyze the data.
Results: Findings indicated that loneliness was negatively related to SDL, whereas mindfulness and optimism showed a positive relationship to SDL. Optimism did not significantly moderate the relationship between loneliness and SDL, and between optimism and self-directed learning.
Conclusions: The findings suggest that incorporating training programs for reducing loneliness and improving mindfulness and optimism into curricular and extracurricular activities on campuses may help increase SDL.

Abstract Background: Epidemiological studies emphasize the link between metabolic factors and thyroid cancer. Using Mendelian randomization (MR), we assessed the possible causal impact of metabolic factors on thyroid cancer for the first time.
Methods: Summary statistics for metabolic factors and thyroid cancer were obtained from published Genome-wide association studies. The causal relationships were assessed using the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method as the primary method through a two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis. To account for the potential existence of horizontal pleiotropy, four additional methods were employed, including Mendelian Randomization-Egger (MR-Egger), weighted median method (WM), simple mode, and weighted mode method. Given the presence of interactions between metabolic factors, a multivariable MR analysis was subsequently conducted.
Results: The results showed there was a genetic link between HDL level and protection effect of thyroid cancer using IVW (OR= 0.75, 95% confidence intervals [CIs] 0.60-0.93, p=0.01) and MR-Egger method (OR= 0.70, 95% confidence intervals [CIs] 0.50- 0.97, p=0.03). The results remained robust in multivariable MR analysis for the genetic link between HDL level and protection effect of thyroid cancer (OR= 0.74, 95% confidence intervals [CIs] 0.55-0.99, p=0.04).
Conclusions: This study suggests a protection role for HDL on thyroid cancer. The study findings provide evidence for the public health suggestion for thyroid cancer prevention. HDL's potential as a pharmacological target needs further validation.
