Abstract Happiness is strongly correlated with goal attainment, productivity, mental health and suicidal risk. This paper examines the association between satisfaction with areas of life and overall life satisfaction, the importance of relative perceptions compared to absolute measures in predicting overall life satisfaction, and differences in the domains of life which are the most strongly related to overall life satisfaction of men and women. The findings suggest that relative perceptions have a large statistically significant association with SWB. Satisfaction with family life and health are the strongest predictors while satisfaction with income and leisure time are the weakest predictors of overall life satisfaction for both genders. Work satisfaction is more important for men than for women, whereas partner's happiness is more valued by female respondents. Satisfaction with household compared to personal income has a larger association with life satisfaction in all subsamples except employed women. Understanding the perceived and factual determinants of happiness has urgent implications discussed in the article.

Abstract More than one third of children worldwide are overweight or obese. This epidemic proportion makes obesity the most common chronic disease among children with short and long-term adverse effects on both affected children and society. This research examines the effect of the extensive and intensive margins of parental employment on children's body mass index (BMI) z-score and likelihood of belonging to different weight status categories in Scotland. We also investigate some mechanisms driving the relationship. The results suggest that there is a positive association between maternal hours worked and child BMI or the probability that a child is overweight or obese. Our analysis of the channels shows that this is attributable to the less time children spend doing physical activity and the more time they watch TV, the more the parents work. The findings are useful for the design of policies whose goal is to improve children's weight outcomes given parental employment.

Abstract In response to the low fertility rate and high child poverty in Poland, the government implemented the Family 500+ program which provides cash transfers to families with two or more children, and low-income, one-child families. Using a difference-in-differences approach, we explore the causal effect of this policy on expenditure and financial difficulties of beneficiaries relative to non-eligible families. The findings suggest that after the introduction of the program, expenditures on food and cultural activities increased, and the likelihood of experiencing a hardship paying for utilities and medical care declined for the treatment relative to the control group. These results imply a beneficial effect of child benefits on tackling financial difficulties of families with children. From a policy perspective, the findings indicate that cash transfers can alleviate child poverty concerns and financial constraints to having children.

Abstract With more than 29 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the U.S. and 119 million cases worldwide, the pandemic has affected companies, households and the global economy. We explore the effect of this health and economic shock on labor market outcomes, and the changes in labor market disparities between ethnic groups and genders. The results provide evidence of an adverse effect of Covid-19 on labor market outcomes of all demographic groups, a widening gap between the employment prospects of minorities and whites, but no change in the earnings gaps between racial and ethnic groups. We also do not find a deterioration of the differentials between genders. The findings have implications related to the priorities of policy decision makers when implementing policies to combat race and ethnic, and gender gaps in the labor market.

Abstract Psychological well-being is influenced by the "surrounding contexts of people's lives" and has consistently been found to be associated with positive outcomes. Given the turbulent surrounding contexts facing SME owners in South Africa, the primary objective of this study was to investigate their level of psychological well-being and to establish the influence thereof on the financial performance of their businesses. A survey using a structured questionnaire was used to gather the necessary data. The population consisted of all owners of SMEs operating within the borders of the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Criterion and convenience sampling were used and questionnaires were administered by field workers. In total 495 questionnaires were useable for statistical analysis. Scale validity and reliability was assessed, descriptive statistics calculated and Pearson's product moment correlations established. Multiple regression analysis was undertaken to investigate the hypothesised relationships. The results show that the participating SME owners have high levels of positive psychological well-being and that their businesses are performing financially. The results also suggest that the more SME owners display the attributes associated with environmental mastery, self-acceptance and autonomy, the more likely their SMEs are to perform financially.

Abstract Objectives: Concern regarding identification and management of sports-related concussion (SRC) in the community sports of Gaelic games exists. This study aimed to examine Gaelic games coaches' and referees' previous SRC experiences, knowledge of and attitudes on SRC and views on SRC education.
Design: Cross-sectional study; SETTING: Online survey instrument.
Participants: Irish male and female Gaelic games coaches (n = 144) and referees (n = 110).
Main outcome measures: Demographics, SRC previous experience, SRC knowledge, attitudes towards SRC reporting and previous and future interest in SRC education.
Results: Most coaches (70.1%) and referees (74.5%) previously dealt with a suspected SRC event. In the most recent SRC event, coaches predominantly removed the player from play (97.0%) and referees frequently informed medical staff (97.1%) or coaches present (96.3%). Coaches and referees were predominantly (>90%) able to identify common SRC signs and symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, confusion, poor balance and headache. Coaches and referees displayed positive attitudes towards removing players from play regardless of game importance.
Conclusions: Good knowledge of common SRC symptoms were displayed, however their ability to recognise false signs and symptoms was limited. Widespread promotion of Gaelic games SRC education across all stakeholders is warranted and should target the misconceptions highlighted in this study.

Abstract Objectives: To examine self-reported concussion history, knowledge and attitudes towards concussion reporting and education in Irish adult Gaelic games players.
    Design: Cross-sectional survey.
Setting: Data were collected using an online survey instrument.
Participants: Two hundred and sixteen adult Gaelic games athletes (106 male, 110 female).
Main outcome measures: Self-reported concussion history for the previous season, reporting history for participants' most recent concussion, concussion knowledge, willingness to report future concussions in a variety of situations and desire for further concussion education.
Results: Seventy-three percent of participants suspected they had sustained a concussion in the past. Most (72.2%) informed someone of their most recent concussion, although two-thirds continued to play during their most recent concussion. Participants had a good overall understanding of concussion, although concussion knowledge score was not associated with safer behaviour following participants' most recent concussion. While most agreed that concussion is a serious injury (95.8%), 46.8% would not report a concussion during important games.
Conclusions: The high proportion of participants playing following concussion and their reluctance to report concussions during important games is concerning. Interventions aimed at improving attitudes towards concussion reporting among athletes and other stakeholders are required to improve concussion management in amateur Gaelic games athletes.
