Abstract As one of the important strategic measures to increase the international competitiveness of high-tech manufacturing (HTM), industry-university-research cooperation (IURC) has received increasing attention in China. However, there is little literature to explore the links between IURC and the environmental efficiency (EE) of HTM. To incorporate a variety of environmental pollution indicators into the efficiency analysis framework and reduce the adverse effects of random errors on the estimation results, this article combined the projection pursuit model with the stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) method and proposed a translog stochastic frontier model considering undesirable outputs to analyze the multiple impacts of IURC on the EE of HTM. The results show that IURC has both a significant negative direct effect and a significant positive indirect effect on HTM’s EE. Although IURC cannot directly promote EE, it has a positive impact on EE of HTM through its complementary effect with research and development (R&D) investment. The results also confirm that the average EE of the whole country is only 0.346, while that of the eastern area is 0.595, and that of the central and western areas are 0.199 and 0.171, respectively. Therefore, it is particularly urgent to improve the EE of China’s HTM industry through a variety of measures, such as promoting IURC and increasing R&D investment in environmental technology. This study not only provides an improved SFA method for measuring EE, but also deepens research on the mechanism of the impact of IURC on HTM’s EE.

Abstract Most existing deep image clustering methods use only class-level representations for clustering. However, the class-level representation alone is not sufficient to describe the differences between images belonging to the same cluster. This may lead to high intra-class representation differences, which will harm the clustering performance. To address this problem, this paper proposes a clustering model named Deep Image Clustering based on Label Similarity and Maximizing Mutual Information Across Views (DCSM). DCSM consists of a backbone network, class-level and instance-level mapping block. The class-level mapping block learns discriminative class-level features by selecting similar (dissimilar) pairs of samples. The proposed extended mutual information is to maximize the mutual information between features extracted from views that were obtained by using data augmentation on the same image and as a constraint on the instance-level mapping block. This forces the instance-level mapping block to capture high-level features that affect multiple views of the same image, thus reducing intra-class differences. Four representative datasets are selected for our experiments, and the results show that the proposed model is superior to the current advanced image clustering models.

Abstract Abstract Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the commonest malignant tumors of humans. Existing evidence has linked the poor prognosis of CRC with high expression of stromal antigen 3 (STAG3), but, the exact biological effect of STAG3 in CRC is still unclear. The aim of this research is to reveal the biological function and molecular mechanism of STAG3 in CRC. To investigate the differential expression of STAG3 in CRC tissues and cell lines compared to normal colon tissues and cell lines, Western blot (WB) and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) techniques were utilized. STAG3 N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification level were identified using m6A RNA immunoprecipitation (MeRIP). Additionally, the functional roles of methyltransferase-like protein 3 (METTL3) and insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 2 (IGF2BP2) in CRC were explored by manipulating their levels via knockdown or overexpression. Cell proliferation was evaluated through Cell Counting Kit 8 (CCK-8) and clone formation experiments, while cell migration was assessed through wound healing experiments. Furthermore, cell apoptosis was detected using flow cytometry, and the protein expressions associated with proliferation and apoptosis were detected using WB. To identify the specific binding of target genes, RIP and pull-down assays were employed. Finally, the biological function of STAG3 in vivo was investigated through a xenotransplantation mouse tumor model. In CRC tissues and cell lines, STAG3 was up-regulated and accompanied by m6A methylation. Additionally, the expression of METTL3 was found to be upregulated in CRC tissues. Knocking down METTL3 resulted in a decrease in both the m6A level and protein expression of STAG3, inhibited cell proliferation and migration while promoting apoptosis, which were restored through STAG3 overexpression. Furthermore, online prediction indicated the interaction between STAG3 mRNA and IGF2BP2 protein, which was further verified by RIP experiments. IGF2BP2 downregulation led to decreased STAG3 protein ...

Abstract Yellow mealworm (Tenebrio molitor L.) larvae can depolymerize and degrade polyethylene (PE), polystyrene (PS), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). In this study, mealworms were utilized to biodegrade PE, PS, and PVC. Additionally, the effects of plastic degradation on the growth and development of yellow mealworm larvae were investigated by investigating the physiological indices and nutritional components of the larvae after plastic degradation. The results showed that degradation of plastics (PS, PE, and PVC) was promoted at a feeding amount of 0.50 g. However, the degradation of PVC at this concentration increased the mortality of yellow mealworms. In contrast, the degradation of a small amount of PS (0.10 g) promoted the nutritional value of crude protein (45.7 ± 2.08%) and phosphorus (1.23 ± 0.04%), had a lower larval mortality rate (7.90 ± 1.10%), and thus did not have a significant effect on the growth and development of yellow mealworms.

Abstract Backfilling a giant karst cave with grouted engineering spoil as a new countermeasure for tunnels through giant karsts cave is studied in this paper. The numerical models of sections with different distribution characteristics of karst cave and tunnels are established for studying the deformation of surrounding rock and mechanical response of tunnel lining with and without grouting, respectively. The results illustrate that the countermeasure scheme is feasible. In order to ensure that the countermeasure can perform as expected effect, the inadequate grouting sections are recognized and verified using field grouting records and single-hole grouting quantity analysis. Finally, the application effect of the countermeasure scheme is evaluated by field monitoring of horizontal convergence. The result shows that the grouting can reduce the deformation of surrounding rock at the side wall and bottom of tunnel by 70–80% and reduce the stress redistribution range of surrounding rock. However, due to the great differences between the limestone and engineering spoil, the grouting cannot change the share of distribution of load between corresponding region surrounding rock, the max principle stress of tunnel lining is almost identical with and without grouting. The grouting reinforced engineering spoil backfill the giant karst cave can meet the requirement of excavation stability. The inadequate grouting sections caused by groundwater and through crack are identified effectively, and are verified by coring observation method. The horizontal convergence of the tunnel is less than 30 mm, and the stable state can be reached within 20 days, which demonstrate that the remarkable engineering results is achieved. The countermeasure of giant karst cave can provide a useful reference for similar project.

Abstract In China, early childhood care and education services for children under the age of three are neglected to some extent. Based on survey data from the Health Commission in Sichuan Province of China, this study analyzes the situation of early childhood care and education services in Sichuan through a qualitative method, using an analytical framework of matching the demand and supply. The findings reveal a mismatch between demand and supply of early childhood care and education services. This gap is likely to have a negative impact on children's self-development, family stability, and even the construction of national early childhood care and education service system. Drawing on the findings, suggestions for improving the mismatch between demand and supply are provided at the state, community and institution levels.

Abstract The influence on tunnel construction of karst and underground rivers is always an important problem in tunnel engineering. In order to demonstrate the rationality of backfill parameters and the effectiveness of supports under the influence of groundwater when a tunnel passes through a large karst cave, the finite element software FLAC3D was used for numerical analysis. Converting the mean values and standard deviations of mechanical response results of the surrounding rock and the supports on multiple sections into the ECULID distance from the origin point on a two-dimensional plane as evaluation indexes, the influence of the reinforcement parameters on the mechanical response of the surrounding rock and the supports was analyzed by orthogonal experiments. Based on fuzzy decision theory, by regarding the ECULID distance between the simulated result of each group and the global optimal value of the multiple evaluation index as the comprehensive evaluation index, a backfill parameter design method was proposed. By comparing the results which used optimal and worst parameters in the FLAC3D, 10 times and 2.5 times differences in longitudinal and horizontal displacement were observed, respectively. Then, the optimal backfill parameters were applied to the actual project for verification. The field monitoring results showed that the optimal backfill parameters can effectively reduce the displacement around the tunnel. After constructing a diversion for the underground river, the water flow in the karst cave did not rise during a rainstorm. This study provides a reference for the design and construction of other projects in the future.

Abstract Based on the data of children with cerebral palsy (CP) in Changzhou obtained by the Disabled Persons’ Federation, this study sampled some children with CP and investigated their survival status, treatment cost, and family burden so as to provide scientific decision-making basis and policy suggestions for coping with disease hazards and improving children’s quality of life. In this study, a simple random sampling method was used to conduct household surveys of the selected children with CP. The economic burden of CP is measured by direct and indirect methods, and the quality of life of patients of children with CP and their families is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by the EuroQol Five Dimensions (EQ-5D) Questionnaire. The average family economic burden of each case of CP in Changzhou was about 4,188,500 yuan, of which the direct medical burden was 205,800 yuan and the indirect economic burden was 3,982,700 yuan. The socioeconomic burden of CP in Changzhou is as high as about 2.244 billion yuan. From the EQ-5D measurement results of 55 children with CP, the average index score was 0.423, which was lower than the national general population level. The proportions of patients with CP who have problems in the five aspects of action, self-care, daily activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression are 72.73%, 81.82%, 81.82%, 83.64%, and 92.73%, respectively, which are significantly higher than those of the national general population. The average score of the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) is 58.09, which is significantly lower than the national general population level. The only major factor affecting the quality of life of patients with CP and their families is the health status represented by the EQ-5D score. To liberate and develop the labor ability of patients and their direct caregivers through clinical treatment, rehabilitation, and special education is the most effective way to reduce the socioeconomic burden of CP. Relevant government departments should perform their duties, integrate social ...

Abstract In recent years, China’s high-tech industry has made remarkable technological progress, but it has also brought serious environmental pollution, which has aroused great concern about its environmental efficiency. Although foreign technology transfer is considered as important ways for technological progress of the high-tech industry, the existing research on what role foreign technology transfer plays in improving the environmental efficiency of the high-tech industry is still lacking. Based on China’s interprovincial panel data from 2008 to 2017, we evaluated the environmental efficiency of the high-tech industry using the super-efficiency slacks-based measure (SBM) model with undesirable outputs. We then used the Tobit model to analyze the impact of technology introduction (TI) and foreign direct investment (FDI)—two major types of foreign technology transfer—on the environmental efficiency of the high-tech industry. The results of the super-efficiency SBM model show that the average environmental efficiency of China’s high-tech industry is only 0.4375. Except for Guangdong, Shanghai, and Beijing, most of the provinces in China have low environmental efficiency. The provinces with high environmental efficiency are in the eastern region, whereas the provinces with low environmental efficiency are concentrated in the central and western regions. Tobit regression results confirm the difference in the role of technology import and foreign direct investment in the improvement of environmental efficiency in China’s high-tech industry. Technology introduction has a significant positive impact on environmental efficiency. FDI also promotes environmental efficiency, but it is not statistically significant. These findings were confirmed by a series of robust tests. This study not only deepens our understanding of the environmental efficiency of China’s high-tech industry but also expands the theoretical research on the relationship between technology transfer and environmental efficiency.

Abstract Defective clearance of apoptotic cells in MFG-E8 deficient mice results in lupus-like disease in the mixed B6x129, but not pure B6 background. The lack of overt autoimmunity in MFG-E8-/- B6 mice suggests that accumulation of apoptotic cells is not sufficient to break central tolerance. However, the delayed clearance of apoptotic cells in the follicles of MFG-E8-/- B6 mice provides an excellent opportunity to investigate how B cells respond to excessive apoptotic cells in the periphery under relatively non-inflammatory conditions. In MFG-E8-/- B6 mice, we found increased IgG2c production against apoptotic cells and oxidized LDL. Apoptotic cell induced antibody responses depended on MyD88 signal and T cell help. In addition, MFG-E8-/- B6 mice had enlarged MZ B cell compartments as well as an enhanced antibody response to NP-Ficoll. Moreover, a significant percentage of MZ B cells in aged MFG-E8-/- B6 mice migrated into follicles. Injecting apoptotic cells or oxidized LDL into wild type mice as well as physiological accumulation of LDL in ApoE-/- mice recapitulated the translocation of MZ B cells. To determine how MFG-E8 deficiency affects the functions of autoreactive B cells specific for nucleic acids in the periphery under non-inflammatory conditions, we utilized BCR transgenic mice to bypass central selection and compared the differentiation of TLR9 dependent anti-dsDNA 56R B cells and TLR7 dependent anti-ssRNA H564 B cells in MFG-E8-/- mice. In MFG-E8-/- 56R mice, anti-dsDNA specific 56R/Vκ38c B cells differentiated into MZ B cells but not AFCs. On the contrary, in MFG-E8-/-H564 mice, anti-ssRNA specific H564 B cells further differentiated into GC B cells and AFCs. Adoptive transfer of activated autoreactive B cells confirmed that H564 B cells were more sensitive to apoptotic cell antigens than 56R B cells. Our observations provide new insights about the MZ B cell translocation in lupus patients as well as the dichotomy of TLR9 and TLR7 signals in the pathogenesis of lupus.
