    Abstract UBASH3A and UBASH3B are protein families of atypical protein tyrosine phosphatases that function as regulators of various cellular processes during mammalian development. As UBASH3A has only mild phosphatase activity, its regulatory effects are based on the phosphatase-independent mechanisms. On the contrary, UBASH3B has strong phosphatase activity, and the suppression of its receptor signalling is mediated by Syk and Zap-70 kinases. The regulatory functions of UBASH3A and UBASH3B are particularly evident in the lymphoid tissues and kidney development. These tyrosine phosphatases are also known to play key roles in autoimmunity and neoplasms. However, their involvement in mammalian development and its regulatory functions are largely unknown and are discussed in this review.

    Abstract Background: The fractional flow reserve (FFR) index has been widely accepted as a standard diagnostic method for identifying functional relevance of coronary stenosis. Since the invasive techniques used for its determination are associated with a certain risk of vascular injury, as well as with an increased cost, several non-invasive procedures have been developed.
    Objective: The aim of this study was to compare FFR values for the coronary artery obtained by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA).
    Methods: Computation of FFR has been performed using both numerical and the analytical method. The numerical method employs CFD to solve the governing equations which relate to mass and momentum conservation (the continuity equation and the Navier-Stokes equations) as well as CCTA to generate the three-dimensional computational domain. After imposing the appropriate boundary conditions, the values of the pressure change are calculated and the FFR index is determined. Based on Bernoulli's law, the analytical method calculates the overall pressure drop across the stenosis in the coronary artery, enabling FFR determination.
    Results: The clinical data for twenty patients who underwent invasive coronary angiography are used to validate the results obtained by using CFD (together with CCTA) simulation and analytical solution. The medically measured FFR compared to the analytical one differs by about 4%, while, the difference is about 2.6% when compared to the numerical FFR. For FFR values below 0.8 (which are considered to be associated with myocardial ischemia) the standard error has a value of 0.01201, while the standard deviation is 0.02081. For FFR values above 0.80, these values are slightly higher. Bland-Altman analysis showed that medical measurement and numerical FFR were in good agreement (SD = 0.0292, p< 0.0001).
    Conclusions: The analytically calculated FFR has a slightly lower coefficient of determination than the numerically computed FFR when compared with experimental one. However, it can still give a reliable answer to the question of whether patients need a stent, bypass surgery or only drug treatment and it requires a significantly lower computation time.

    Abstract Tattoos are a form of decorative body art in which pigment dyes of different colors are inoculated into the skin. It is estimated that 15-25% of general population has one or more tattoos (1), and the reasons for the popularity of this procedure may include greater social acceptance, aesthetic appeal, or perhaps the option of using laser removal techniques to eliminate unwanted tattoos. Even though modern professional tattoos are usually performed in sterile conditions, complications still occur, and with increasing numbers of people getting tattoos, the incidence of tattoo-associated side-effects presenting to dermatologists, which may be as high as 2%, is likely to increase (2). Herein we present a case of a 43-year-old male patient with multiple HPV-associated flat warts (verrucae planae) confined to the black pigment of a tattoo done 15 years ago. A 43-year-old patient presented to our clinic due to eczema on the trunk. However, during skin examination, we observed asymptomatic verrucous papules confined to the black ink of a tattoo done 15 years ago on the lateral side of his right lower leg (Figure 1a). Clinical examination showed multiple, discrete, skin-colored, verrucous papules disseminated exclusively within the lines of the black-colored tattoo. Full skin examination did not reveal any similar lesions anywhere else on the body. Dermoscopically, papules showed a discretely papillomatous surface and sharp borders (Figure 1b). The patient had another black tattoo on his trunk, in which no similar lesions were found. All his tattoos had been done more than 15 years ago in a professional tattoo salon and with no previous history of cutaneous lesions within tattoos. The patient had no other medical conditions and was not taking any medications. Additionally, no history of warts or other HPV-related lesions of the skin or mucosal membranes could be established. A biopsy of an individual papule was taken and sent for a histopathological analysis, which subsequently showed hyperkeratotic, orthokeratotic, and parakeratotic acanthotic epidermis with hypergranulosis and rare cells with perinuclear halo indicative of koilocytes (Figure 3b). Immunohistochemical analysis showed negative reaction for p16 and p53, while Ki67 was positive only in rare basal and suprabasal cells. These findings were indicative of low-risk HPV, and the diagnosis of HPV-induced verruca plana was ultimately established. The patient was then successfully treated with cautious curettage of the lesions, leaving no scars. Due to the growing popularity of tattoos, especially among younger populations, it is necessary to emphasize the possibility of various tattoo-related side-effects that can still occur due to improper preparation of the tattoo location, contamination of ink products, improperly sterilized instruments, or due to insufficient personal hygiene following tattooing (3). In the past, tattoo-associated infections were significantly more frequent, with the highest prevalence of Staphylococcus and Streptococcus infections causing impetigo, folliculitis, cellulitis, erysipelas, or sepsis (2), but recent improvement and efforts in using sterile techniques in tattooing has led to a significant drop in the number of tattoo-related infections. In this short report, we present a case of a different and a relatively rare type of tattoo-associated infection - flat warts i.e., verrucae planae. Flat warts are usually caused by HPV-3, -6B, -10, -28, and -49. Typical predilection sites are the face, dorsal sides of the hands or feet, arms, and legs, and they usually appear as skin-colored, pink, or brown, flat-topped discrete papules. It is believed that HPV can be inoculated through contaminated ink, instruments, the artist's saliva, or that it may be a pre-existing unnoticed wart in the tattooed area (4-6). The latency period between tattooing and HPV infection can range from several months to 10 years, with a mean period of 5 years (3). This may suggest that the immune system can control the infection for some time, and that some form of immune suppression may result in the development of a clinical disease. In our case, the latency period could not be established due to the patient's unawareness of the lesions, and no potential trigger could be identified. The occurrence of lesions on only one of the patient's tattoos as well as their confinement to the black pigmented ink may indicate a correlation to this specific pigment. Ramey et al. (6) conducted a study in which they assessed the localization of warts in differently colored tattoos. The results showed that black ink tattoos had a seven times higher risk of developing warts when compared with colored ink. At first it was thought that this was due to HPV inoculation via contaminated instruments, ink, or autoinoculation of the patient's own warts, but some evidence indicates that it is unlikely for HPV to survive in ink and that if the warts were inoculated they would occur equally in all ink colors. A different theory by Ruocco et al. (7) explains this phenomenon through an "immunocompromised district" mechanism, in which polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found in black ink produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) that can damage cellular structures and consequently increase the risk of a variety of infections, including HPV. Moreover, black ink contains almost pure nanoparticles, which are associated with greater ROS production than the larger particles found in colored ink (7,8). There are several treatment options for verrucae planae, such as liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, topical 5% fluorouracil, topical 5% imiquimod, 0.025-0.050% tretinoin, 10% salicylic acid, or 10-30% glycolic acid. These treatments have differing success rates. Destructive modalities, such as surgical excision, curetting, or laser ablation may significantly damage the tattoo and cause scarring, and are thus not regularly performed. It's necessary to emphasize that despite today's sterile methods of tattooing, complications may still occur and medical professionals, namely dermatologists, should be aware of them. A person who wishes to get a tattoo should be advised to visit a licensed tattoo artist at a licensed tattoo parlour only. Patients with pre-existing dermatoses characterized by an isomorphic phenomenon, such as psoriasis or lichen planus, are particularly prone to developing a tattoo-associated adverse reaction, and those with severe dermatoses should be advised to avoid tattooing. Additionally, people with a previous history of warts should be aware of the possibility of warts occurrence, even years or decades after tattooing. Even though most of tattoo-related side effects are merely inconveniences, there is a potential for serious complications and patients should be advised as such.

    Abstract Background: Being in peak physical condition and having specific motor abilities are necessity for every top-level soccer player in order to achieve success in competition. In order to correctly assess soccer players' performance, this research uses laboratory and field measurements, as well as results of competitive performance obtained by direct software measurements of players' movement during the actual soccer game.
    Objective: The main goal of this research is to give insight into the key abilities that soccer players need to have in order to perform in competitive tournaments. Besides training adjustments, this research also gives insight into what variables need to be tracked in order to accurately assess the efficiency and functionality of the players.
    Methods: The collected data need to be analyzed using descriptive statistics. Collected data is also used as input for multiple regression models that can predict certain key measurements: total distance covered, percent of effective movements and high index of effective performance movements.
    Results: Most of the calculated regression models have high predictability level with statistically significant variables.
    Conclusion: Based on the results of regression analysis it can be deduced that motor abilities are important factor in measuring soccer player's competitive performance and team's success in the match.

    Abstract Background: Ultrasound is one of the non-invasive techniques that are used in clinical diagnostics of carotid artery disease.
    Objective: This paper presents software methodology that can be used in combination with this imaging technique to provide additional information about the state of patient-specific artery.
    Methods: Overall three modules are combined within the proposed methodology. A clinical dataset is used within the deep learning module to extract the contours of the carotid artery. This data is then used within the second module to perform the three-dimensional reconstruction of the geometry of the carotid bifurcation and ultimately this geometry is used within the third module, where the hemodynamic analysis is performed. The obtained distributions of hemodynamic quantities enable a more detailed analysis of the blood flow and state of the arterial wall and could be useful to predict further progress of present abnormalities in the carotid bifurcation.
    Results: The performance of the deep learning module was demonstrated through the high values of relevant common classification metric parameters. Also, the accuracy of the proposed methodology was shown through the validation of results for the reconstructed parameters against the clinically measured values.
    Conclusion: The presented methodology could be used in combination with standard clinical ultrasound examination to quickly provide additional quantitative and qualitative information about the state of the patient's carotid bifurcation and thus ensure a treatment that is more adapted to the specific patient.

    Abstract While the effects of chronic exposure to microplastic particles (MPs) are extensively studied, the outcomes of a single treatment have received relatively less attention. To investigate MPs' potential acute toxicity, including their impact on general health status (victual consumption, sensorimotor deficits, and clinical toxicity signs) and serum biochemical parameters (markers of organ/tissue function and oxidative stress indicators), we administered thoroughly characterized MPs (1.4, 35, or 125 mg/kg), generated from polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles, to adult male Wistar rats via oral gavage. The MPs' short-term effects were assessed with well-established tests and methods. The results point to the absence of sensorimotor deficits and clinical toxicity signs, while levels of markers of liver, heart, and kidney function were altered in all MP groups. Decreased victual consumption and increased levels of oxidative stress indicators were evident following treatment with the two higher MP doses. Presented data indicate that examined MPs are able to initiate the development of local changes in tissues and organs within a short time frame, potentially leading to their damage and dysfunction. This study may increase the awareness of the detrimental effects of plastic contamination, as even a single exposure to MPs may provoke adverse health outcomes.
