Abstract Breast cancer is the most frequent form of malignant tumor in women, and represents a major public health problem due to its high mortality rate. Although a multitude of therapeutic options exist for control of this disease, the emergence of resistance to current pharmaceutical treatments underscores the urgency of developing new anti- breast cancer drugs, with a focus on reducing the adverse effects associated with current therapeutic agents. The present study concerns a new series of (23) compounds based on 1,4-quinone and quinoline derivatives to design candidate drugs against breast cancer. For this purpose, integrated computational techniques were applied, including 3D-QSAR, molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations (MD). CoMFA and CoMSIA were used to build a robust and highly reliable 3D-QSAR models. To validate the model's predictive capabilities, an external validation was carried out. The results of the best model (CoMSIA/SEA) revealed that electrostatic, steric and hydrogen bond acceptor fields had a significant effect on the anti-breast cancer activity of molecules studied. In addition, evaluation of ADMET properties determined whether these newly designed ligands were likely to be selected as drug-candidates. To confirm the binding stability of the selected ligands to aromatase (3S7S) and validate the molecular docking results, molecular dynamics simulations lasting 100 nanoseconds were performed by calculating RMSD, RMSF, RoG, H-bond, SASA and MM-PBSA parameters. As a result, only one designed compound (ligand 5) emerged as the most promising drug candidate for experimental in vitro and in vivo testing, due to its potential inhibition of breast cancer.

Abstract Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) have been increasingly used in patients with advanced heart failure, either as a destination therapy or as a bridge to heart transplant. Continuous flow (CF) LVADs have revolutionized advanced heart failure treatment. However, significant vascular pathology and complications have been linked to their use. While the newer CF-LVAD generations have led to a reduction in some vascular complications such as stroke, no major improvement was noticed in the rate of other vascular complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding. This review attempts to provide a comprehensive summary of the effects of CF-LVAD on vasculature, including pathophysiology, clinical implications, and future directions.

Abstract Abstract Providers should be aware of the possibility of cardiac resynchronization therapy‐related proarrhythmia which could be life‐threatening. His‐bundle pacing may serve as an alternative, more physiological, option in the management as it preserves the normal sequence of depolarization from the septum to the lateral wall, and from endocardium to epicardium.

Abstract Opuntia ficus-indica that belongs to the Cactaceae family and is a member of Opuntia kind has received increasing research interest for wastewater treatment by flocculation. The objectives of this study were (i) to provide more information regarding the active constituents of Opuntia spp. and (ii) to improve the extracting and using conditions of the flocculant molecules for water treatment. A classic approach by jar test experiments was used with raw and extracted material by solubilization and precipitation. The surface properties of solid material were characterized by FTIR, SEM, zeta potential measurement, and surface titration. The splitting based on the solubility of the material with pH and the titration of functional groups completed the method. The optimal pH value for a coagulation–flocculation process using cactus solid material (CSM) was 10.0 and a processing rate of 35 mg L⁻¹. The alkaline pH of flocculation suggests an adsorption mechanism with bridging effect between particles by water-soluble extracted molecules. To validate this mechanism, an extraction water was carried out at pH = 10 (optimum of flocculation) and the solution was acidified (pH = 7) to allow precipitation of so considered active flocculant molecules. The strong flocculant property of this extract was verified, and titration of this solution showed at least one specific pKa of 9.0 ± 0.6. This pKa corresponds to phenol groups, which could be assigned to lignin and tannin.
