    Abstract Developing academic literacies is becoming an important research topic in TESOL and has received increasing scholarly attention. One of the difficulties in developing university students' academic literacy in English language speaking is the lack of an authentic English language learning environment and the way to help students more effectively develop their language competence. To address this issue, this study seeks to explore the academic literacy development of 24 non-English major students in an 8-week-long integrated English class at a Chinese university from late 2022 to early 2023. Based on a production-oriented approach (POA) action research design, this study follows the typical framework of driving, enabling, and assessing phases to chain together the teaching and learning actions. Quantitative data from questionnaires were analyzed via SPSS software, whereas thematic analysis and content analysis were adopted in examining the qualitative data including classroom observations, teacher reflection journals, and semi-structured interviews. Based on our data analysis, this study finds that POA can have a positive effect on improving students' participation, performance, and task completion, which improves their academic literacies. Implications on how POA helps in facilitating EFL students' academic literacies development are discussed along with the acquisition model and future research directions like students' identity issues and teachers' perceptions of pedagogical approaches in teaching academic literacy within university settings.

    Abstract Background: To investigate the prevalence of vascular calcification based on the ankle-brachial index (ABI) value and analyse the risk factors for vascular calcification in the general population.
    Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to collect clinical, laboratory, and lifestyle data in individuals aged 30-70 recruited from the physical examination centre. The automatic arteriosclerosis detector was used to measure the ABI. Difference tests, correlation analyses, and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors for vascular calcification.
    Results: The overall prevalence of vascular calcification was 24.39% in 1033 subjects. The prevalence of vascular calcification in males was much higher than that in females (27.80% vs. 17.49%, P < 0.001). The differences in age, body mass index (BMI), systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), triglyceride (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), hypertension, and fatty liver disease were statistically significant in males (P < 0.05). The differences between serum uric acid (UA), total cholesterol (TC), TG, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), alcohol consumption, exercise, and postmenopausal status were statistically significant in females (P < 0.05). Increased age (odds ratio (OR) = 1.028, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.008-1.049, P = 0.007), increased BMI (OR = 1.238, 95% CI 1.147-1.337, P < 0.001) and elevated DBP (OR = 2.563, 95% CI 1.262-5.205, P = 0.009) were independent risk factors for vascular calcification in males after adjusting for confounding factors. Increased BMI (OR = 1.159, 95% CI 1.029-1.304, P = 0.015), elevated UA (OR = 1.545, 95% CI 1.077-2.216, P = 0.018), elevated LDL-C (OR = 1.044, 95% CI 1.060-1.027, P < 0.001), and a lack of exercise (OR = 2.402, 95% CI 1.073-5.373, P = 0.033) were independent risk factors for vascular calcification in females.
    Conclusions: The prevalence of vascular calcification based on the ABI value is also high in the general population of our centre. Increased age, BMI, and elevated DBP are independent risk factors for vascular calcification in males. Increased BMI, UA, LDL-C, and a lack of exercise are independent risk factors for vascular calcification in females. Attention should be given to strengthening the prevention and control of vascular calcification in the general population.

    Abstract S-acylation is a reversible post-translational modification catalyzed by protein S-acyltransferases (PATs), and acyl protein thioesterases (APTs) mediate de-S-acylation. Although many proteins are S-acylated, how the S-acylation cycle modulates specific biological functions in plants is poorly understood. In this study, we report that the S-acylation cycle of transcription factor MtNAC80 is involved in the Medicago truncatula cold stress response. Under normal conditions, MtNAC80 localized to membranes through MtPAT9-induced S-acylation. In contrast, under cold stress conditions, MtNAC80 translocated to the nucleus through de-S-acylation mediated by thioesterases such as MtAPT1. MtNAC80 functions in the nucleus by directly binding the promoter of the glutathione S-transferase gene MtGSTU1 and promoting its expression, which enables plants to survive under cold stress by removing excess malondialdehyde and H2O2. Our findings reveal an important function of the S-acylation cycle in plants and provide insight into stress response and tolerance mechanisms.

    Abstract Objective Myocardial fibrosis is a potential mechanism of light-chain myocardial amyloidosis(AL-CA). This research aimed at exploring the correlation between multiparameter cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) and myocardial fibrosis by relating the CMR myocardial tissue characteristics, the morphological and the functional parameters with gallium-68-labeledfibroblast activation protein inhibitor 04 positron emission tomography (68Ga-FAPI PET). Methods We gave the patients diagnosed with AL-CA in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from August to December 2021 the examinations of CMR and 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT. We recorded and analyzed the information on clinical manifestations and examinations of the patients. Results A total of 23 patients with AL-CA were included, 15 (65.2%)of which were male and the mean age was 58.3±6.5 years. Patients with high 68Ga-FAPI-04 uptake had shown growth in myocardial extracellular volume (ECV), significantly higher than those in the negative group (P=0.047). In addition, patients' myocardial ECV was positively correlated with myocardial FAPI uptake (r=0.628, P=0.001;r=0.727, P < 0.001;r=0.661, P=0.001). Patients in the positive group showd reduced left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF)(P < 0.001).LVEF (r=-0.798, P < 0.001;r=-0.794, P < 0.001; r=-0.795, P < 0.001) and right ventricular (RV)EF (r=-0.735, P < 0.001;r=-0.739, P < 0.001;r=- 0.684, P < 0.001) showd negatively correlated with myocardial FAPI uptake, LV circumferential strain (r=0.668, P < 0.001;r=0.708, P < 0.001;r=0.705, P < 0.001), LV longitudinal strain (r=0.629, P=0.001;r=0.635, P=0.001; r=0.597, P=0.003), and RV longitudinal strain (r=0.575, P=0.004; r=0.792, P < 0.001;r=0.673, P < 0.001) were negatively correlated with myocardial FAPI uptake. Conclusions FAPI-related fibroblast activation is concurrent with CMR-related abnormal myocardial interstitial characteristics that leads to the decreased function of the myocardial movement.     Abstract Background: Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) treatment has been developed to minimize lung damage and to avoid invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in preterm infants, especially in those with a gestational age of <30 weeks. Our hypothesis is that for preterm infants <30 weeks with potential to develop respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP) is non-inferior to the nasal intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) as primary respiratory support before minimal invasive surfactant administration (MISA).
    Methods and design: The NIV-MISA-RDS trial is planned as an unblinded, multicenter, randomized, non-inferiority trial at 14 tertiary neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in China. Eligible infants are preterm infants of 24-29
    Discussion: Current evidence shows that NIV and MISA may be the most effective strategy for minimizing IMV in preterm infants with RDS. However, there are few large randomized controlled trials to compare the effectiveness of NCPAP and NIPPV as the primary respiratory support after birth and before surfactant administration. We will conduct this trial to test the hypothesis that NCPAP is not inferior to NIPPV as the initial respiratory support in reducing the use of IMV in premature infants who have spontaneous breaths after birth and who do not require intubation in the first 2 h after birth. The study will provide clinical data for the selection of the initial non-invasive ventilation mode in preterm infants with a gestational age of <30 weeks with spontaneous breaths after birth.

    Abstract USP1 (Ubiquitin-specific protease 1) is closely related to the prognosis of patients with liver cancer and plays an important role in DNA damage repair. C527 is a selective USP1 inhibitor (USP1i), which can regulate the protein ubiquitination to effectively inhibit the proliferation of cancer cells. However, its clinical application is hindered due to the poor water solubility and lack of tumor targeting. Moreover, the efficacy of single use of USP1i is still limited. Herein, a glutathione (GSH) sensitive amphiphilic polymer (poly (2-HD-co-HPMDA)-mPEG, PHHM) with disulfide bonds in the main chain was designed to encapsulate the USP1i as well as platinum (IV) prodrug (Pt (IV)-C12), resulting in the formation of composite nanoparticles, i.e., NP-Pt-USP1i. NP-Pt-USP1i can inhibit the DNA damage repair by targeting USP1 by the encapsulated USP1i, which ultimately increases the sensitivity of tumor cells to cisplatin and enhances the anti-cancer efficacy of cisplatin. Finally, an intraperitoneal tumor mice model and a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) of liver cancer mice model were established to prove that NP-Pt-USP1i could effectively inhibit the tumor growth. This work further validated the possibility of therapeutically target USP1 by USP1i in combination with DNA damaging alkylating agents, which could become a promising cancer treatment modality in the future.
