Abstract In this study, we propose an augmentation method for machine learning based on relabeling data in caregiving and nursing staff indoor localization with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. Indoor localization is used to monitor staff-to-patient assistance in caregiving and to gain insights into workload management. However, improving accuracy is challenging when there is a limited amount of data available for training. In this paper, we propose a data augmentation method to reuse the Received Signal Strength (RSS) from different beacons by relabeling to the locations with less samples, resolving data imbalance. Standard deviation and Kullback-Leibler divergence between minority and majority classes are used to measure signal pattern to find matching beacons to relabel. By matching beacons between classes, two variations of relabeling are implemented, specifically full and partial matching. The performance is evaluated using the real-world dataset we collected for five days in a nursing care facility installed with 25 BLE beacons. A Random Forest model is utilized for location recognition, and performance is compared using the weighted F1-score to account for class imbalance. By increasing the beacon data with our proposed relabeling method for data augmentation, we achieve a higher minority class F1-score compared to augmentation with Random Sampling, Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) and Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN). Our proposed method utilizes collected beacon data by leveraging majority class samples. Full matching demonstrated a 6 to 8% improvement from the original baseline overall weighted F1-score.

Abstract The avocado cv. Hass is one of the most dynamic fruits in the world and is of particular significance in tropical areas, where climate variability phenomena have a high impact on productivity and sustainability. Nanotechnology-based tools could be an alternative to mitigate and/or adapt plants to these phenomena. Our approach was based on identifying changes in temperature and precipitation associated with climate variability in avocado areas in Colombia and proposing mitigation strategies based on the use of nanotechnology. This study had two objectives: (i) to identify variations in temperature and precipitation in avocado-producing areas in Colombia and (ii) to evaluate the effect of calcium phosphate nanoparticles (nano CP) as an alternative to reduce stress in avocados under simulate climatic variability condition. Climatic clusters were determined based on the spatial K-means method and with the climatic temporal series data (1981-2020), a time series analysis we carried out. Later changes in each cluster were simulated in growth chambers, evaluating physiological and developmental responses in avocado seedlings subjected to nanoCaP after adjusting the application form and dose. XRD diffraction shows that the calcium phosphate phases obtained by solution combustion correspond to a mixture of hydroxyapatite and witocklite nanoparticles with irregular morphologies and particle sizes of 100 nm. Three clusters explained ∼90% of the climate variation, with increases and decreases in temperature and precipitation in the range of 1-1.4 °C and 4.1-7.3% respectively. The best-fitted time series models were of stationary autoregressive integrated moving averages (SARIMA). The avocado seedlings had differential responses (

Abstract The existence of a local curve of corotating and counter-rotating vortex pairs was proven by Hmidi and Mateu (in Commun Math Phys 350(2):699-747, 2017) via a desingularization of a pair of point vortices. In this paper, we construct a global continuation of these local curves. That is, we consider solutions which are more than a mere perturbation of a trivial solution. Indeed, while the local analysis relies on the study of the linear equation at the trivial solution, the global analysis requires on a deeper understanding of topological properties of the nonlinear problem. For our proof, we adapt the powerful analytic global bifurcation theorem due to Buffoni and Toland to allow for the singularity at the bifurcation point. For both the corotating and the counter-rotating pairs, along the global curve of solutions either the angular fluid velocity vanishes or the two patches self-intersect.

Abstract Lipopeptides are amphiphilic peptides in which an aliphatic chain is attached to either the C or N terminus of peptides. Their self-assembly - into micelles, vesicles, nanotubes, fibres or nanobelts - leads to applications in nanotechnology, catalysis or medicinal chemistry. Self-organization of lipopeptides is dependent on both the length of the lipid tail and the amino acid sequence, in which the chirality of the peptide sequence can be transmitted into the supramolecular species. This Review describes the use of lipopeptides to design synthetic advanced dynamic supramolecular systems, nanostructured materials or self-responsive delivery systems in the area of medical biotechnology. We examine the influence of external stimuli, the ability of lipopeptide-derived structures to adapt over time and their application as medicinal agents with antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral or anticancer activities. Finally, we discuss the catalytic efficiency of lipopeptides, with the aim of building minimal synthetic enzymes, and recent efforts to incorporate metals into lipopeptide assemblies.
