Abstract A solid system consisting of two heat conducting cylinders with a thermoelectric converter (Peltier element) between them is considered. A nonlinear model, which was previously verified by authors, is used to design a constrained control law that allows us to achieve a steady-state distribution of the temperature in one of the cylinders in much less time than the characteristic time of transient processes. The initial-boundary value problem is exactly linearized over temperature by means of feedback linearization. Although the resulting system is nonlinear in a control function, it is possible to construct a finite-dimensional approximation based on analytical solution of the corresponding eigenproblem for a constant control signal. The time-optimal control problem is studied numerically by using this eigenfunction decomposition. To construct admissible control laws, an auxiliary unconstrained optimization problem is introduced. Its cost functional represents a weighted sum of temperature deviation from the desired zero distribution and a penalty for violating an electric power constraint. The control time interval is split into several parts, and on each subinterval the control signal is taken constant. The optimal piecewise constant feedforward control is found numerically by applying the gradient descent method. We analyze the proposed control law with respect to the shortest admissible time of the process.

Abstract Large scale detectors consisting of a liquid scintillator (LS) target surrounded by an array of photo-multiplier tubes (PMT) are widely used in modern neutrino experiments: Borexino, KamLAND, Daya Bay, Double Chooz, RENO, and upcoming JUNO with its satellite detector TAO. Such apparatuses are able to measure neutrino energy, which can be derived from the amount of light and its spatial and temporal distribution over PMT-channels. However, achieving a fine energy resolution in large scale detectors is challenging. In this work, we present machine learning methods for energy reconstruction in JUNO, the most advanced detector of its type. We focus on positron events in the energy range of 0-10 MeV which corresponds to the main signal in JUNO $-$ neutrinos originated from nuclear reactor cores and detected via an inverse beta-decay channel. We consider Boosted Decision Trees and Fully Connected Deep Neural Network trained on aggregated features, calculated using information collected by PMTs. We describe the details of our feature engineering procedure and show that machine learning models can provide energy resolution $\sigma = 3\%$ at 1 MeV using subsets of engineered features. The dataset for model training and testing is generated by the Monte Carlo method with the official JUNO software. Consideration of calibration sources for evaluation of the reconstruction algorithms performance on real data is also presented.

Abstract A number of Eu-doped layered yttrium hydroxides intercalated with various benzenedicarboxylate (phthalate, isophthalate and terephthalate) and sulphobenzoate (2-, 3- and 4-sulphobenzoate) anions were obtained using hydrothermal microwave (HTMW) treatment. For the first time, phthalate, isophthalate and sulphobenzoate anions were intercalated into layered rare-earth hydroxides (LRHs). Two approaches for the synthesis of intercalated layered yttrium hydroxides were used: ion exchange reactions and homogeneous hydrolysis of rare-earth cations in the presence of intercalated anions. Ion-exchange reactions between layered rare-earth hydroxides and a series of benzenedicarboxylic and sulphobenzoic acid salts were performed under the conditions of HTMW treatment, which significantly increased the rate of intercalation. The structure of the first representative of layered rare-earth hydroxides intercalated with sulphobenzoate-type anions, namely layered yttrium hydroxide intercalated with 4-sulphobenzoate of the composition Y3(OH)7(C7H4O5S)·H2O, was solved. Intercalation of benzenedicarboxylate and sulphobenzoate anions into Eu-doped layered yttrium hydroxides led to a substantial sensitization of Eu3+ luminescence. The local symmetry of Eu3+ was greatly decreased by intercalation of benzenedicarboxylate and sulphobenzoate anions.

Abstract The global coverage of the observational network of the wind waves is still characterized by the significant gaps in in situ observations. At the same time wind waves play an important role into the Earth’ climate system specifically in the air-sea interaction processes and energy exchange between the ocean and the atmosphere. In this paper we present the SeaVision system for measuring wind waves’ parameters in the open ocean with navigational marine X-band radar and prime data collection from the three research cruises in the North Atlantic (2020 and 2021) and Arctic (2021). Simultaneously with SeaVision observations of the wind waves we were collecting data in the same locations and time with Spotter wave buoy and running WaveWatch III model over our domains. Measurements with SeaVision were quality controlled and validated by comparison with Spotter buoy data and WaveWatch III experiments. Observations of the wind waves with navigational Xband radar are in agreement among these three sources of data, with the best agreement for wave propagation directions. The dataset that supports this paper consists of significant wave height, wave period and wave energy frequency spectrum from both SeaVision and Spotter buoy. Currently the dataset is available through the temporary link ( https://sail.ocean.ru/tilinina2021/ ) while supporting dataset (Tilinina et al., 2021) is in technical processing at PANGAEA repository. The dataset can be used for validation of satellite missions as well as model outputs. One of the major highlights in this study is potential of all ships navigating into the open ocean and equipped with X-band marine radar to participate into the development of another observational network for the wind waves in the open ocean once cheap and independently operating version of the SeaVision (or any other system) is available.

Abstract Wind waves play an important role in the climate system, modulating the energy exchange between the ocean and the atmosphere and effecting ocean mixing. However, existing ship-based observational networks of wind waves are still sparse, limiting therefore the possibilities of validating satellite missions and model simulations. In this paper we present data collected on three research cruises in the North Atlantic and Arctic in 2020 and 2021 and the SeaVision system for measuring wind wave characteristics over the open ocean with a standard marine navigation X-band radar. Simultaneously with the SeaVision wind wave characteristic measurements, we also collected data from the Spotter wave buoy at the same locations, and we ran the WaveWatch III model in a very high-resolution configuration over the observational domain. SeaVision measurements were validated against co-located Spotter wave buoy data and intercompared with the output of WaveWatch III simulations. Observations of the wind waves with the navigation X-band radar were found to be in good agreement with buoy data and model simulations with the best match for the wave propagation directions. Supporting datasets consist of significant wave heights, wave directions, wave periods and wave energy frequency spectra derived from both SeaVision and the Spotter buoy. All supporting data are available through the PANGAEA repository – https://doi.org/10.1594/PANGAEA.939620 (Gavrikov et al., 2021). The dataset can be further used for validation of satellite missions and regional wave model experiments. Our study shows the potential of ship navigation X-band radars (when assembled with SeaVision or similar systems) for the development of a new near-global observational network providing a much larger number of wind wave observations compared to e.g. Voluntary Observing Ship (VOS) data and research vessel campaigns.

Abstract The one-staged subtotal/total colectomy with formation of primary ileo-sigmoanastomosis or ileo-rectal anastomosis is applied in tumoral left colonic ileus. There were estimated immediate results and the role of the method in the treatment of 46 patients with left colonic obstructive tumor. Postoperative complications had occurred in 52% of the patients, postoperative mortality had constituted 10.9%. Performance of subtotal/total colectomy with formation of primary anastomosis constitutes the alternative and preferable method of treatment of patients with left colonic obstructive tumor.

Abstract A new technique for analyzing the pair interaction forces between particles in nonideal dissipative systems is presented. The technique is based on a solution of the inverse problem describing the movement of dust particles by a system of Langevin equations. Numerical simulations in a wide range of the parameters typical for dusty plasma experiments were performed to verify the solutions of the inverse problem. The first approbations of the proposed technique for analysis of intergrain interactions in a plasma of rf discharge are presented.
