Abstract The possibility of using a two-pulse laser action consisting of a pulse of the free-running pulse followed by the Q-switched pulse in the processes of laser drilling in alumina ceramics is considered. A diagram of a laser machine for implementing the proposed processing method and the method for determining the energy required to form the through hole and the drilling time are presented. For thermal exposure, pulsed radiation of Nd:YAG of the laser operating in the free-running mode (pulse duration 0.5 ms, energy up to 0.3 J) was used. The Q-switched pulse was generated using a second Nd:YAG laser (pulse duration 25-30 ns, energy up to 0.03 J). The laser radiation was focused on the surface of the material at one point. The time between the start of generation of the first and second lasers varied in the range of 0-1000 μs. The optimal delay time for the start of the generation of the second laser relative to the first was determined experimentally. The obtained results showed that the combination of the free-running pulse and the Q-switched pulse can significantly increase the efficiency of laser machining of ceramics and improve the hole quality. This scheme turned out to be promising for optimizing parameters of the process of laser drilling in thin-sheet alumina ceramics. The obtained results obtained have great potential in the field of precision laser machining of ceramics.

Abstract Although choroid plexus cysts are a frequent incidental neuroimaging finding, symptomatic ones are rare-a series of more than five cases are hard to find. In the absence of high-volume studies, there are no generally accepted algorithms for diagnosis and treatment for this pathology. Proposed surgical techniques include microsurgical excision or fenestration and endoscopic excision or fenestration with or without additional shunting. No definitive conclusions exist about the superiority of a certain technique. Here, we introduce an illustrative case of a patient with a symptomatic choroid plexus cyst in the trigone of the lateral ventricle and a systematic review of 65 additional published cases with the aim of identifying epidemiological features, variants of localization of the cysts, their symptoms, persistence of concomitant obstructive hydrocephalus, and treatment modalities. A PRISMA-based literature search was performed on the PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Knowledge databases. We include in the review case reports and case series of symptomatic choroid plexus cysts with full texts or valuable abstracts available online in English and published by April 2023. All abstracts of retrieved studies were assessed by two independent researchers to avoid bias. Only descriptive statistics were used for the presentation of the results. A total of 48 studies (39 case reports and 9 case series) with 65 depicted cases met the eligibility criteria. The review showed a slight predominance of choroid plexus cysts in men. The most common localizations of cysts were the trigone and the body of the lateral ventricle. Obstructive hydrocephalus is often present in patients with choroid plexus cysts. The most common symptoms of cysts were signs of increased ICP: headaches and vomiting. The main treatment approaches for symptomatic choroid plexus cysts were microsurgical excision, microsurgical fenestration, endoscopic fenestration, and total endoscopic excision. The tendency has been noted to shift from microsurgical to endoscopic procedures over the past two decades. Some data on the classification of cysts of the central nervous system and the underlying mechanisms of the pathogenesis of choroid plexus cysts are also presented.Although symptomatic cases of choroid plexus cysts are rare, by summarizing currently available data, one could clarify their common features and identify a preferable treatment modality.

Abstract The free movement of European citizens across member states of the European Union adds an important level of complexity to strategic efforts of health interoperability. The use of electronic health data has been marked as an important strategic activity and policy to improve healthcare in European countries. Cross-border healthcare depends on the ability to set up shared practices with respect to patient data exchange across the countries. Data flow must comply with demanding security, legal and interoperability requirements, as defined by the European Patients Smart Open Services project specifications. The aim of this article is to propose a novel design of healthcare data warehouse based on the restructured Extract-Transform-Load process. We describe a portal framework that offers a comprehensive set of interoperability services to enable national e-Health platforms to set up cross-border health information networks compliant with European Patients Smart Open Services. The presented approach incorporates the technical and organizational interoperability by interconnecting Health Level Seven standard and Open National Contact Points framework in order to provide a modular, scalable and inter-operating architecture.

Title translation Cysts of septum pellucidum, cavum vergae and cavum veli interpositi. Meta-analysis of 368 cases.
Abstract Objective: To review and systematize literature data on the incidence of cysts of septum pellucidum, cavum vergae and cavum veli interpositi, their clinical manifestations, indications for surgical treatment and optimal surgical approach.
Material and methods: An analysis included 72 manuscripts devoted to epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical symptoms and results of surgical treatment of brain cysts. Case reports, series of cases, reviews and original studies were analyzed.
Results: Septum pellucidum cavity is always formed throughout an embryogenesis and persists in 20.34% of adults. Cavum vergae is observed in 2.32% of adults. Cyst of septum pellucidum is detected in 0.04% of adults. Analysis of 368 cases of cysts of septum pellucidum, cavum vergae and cavum veli interpositi has shown that clinical picture consists of headache (50% of cases), convulsive syndrome (23.6%), reduced intelligence (20.1%), behavioural disorders (15.8%), dizziness, nausea and vomiting (10.9%). Hydrocephalus occurs in 16.6% of cases. Endoscopic wall fenestration is preferred for cyst management.
Conclusion: Brain cysts are rare and characterized by non-specific clinical manifestations. Symptomatic cyst is an indication for surgical treatment. Surgical treatment usually ensures regression of symptoms and low risk of complications.

Title translation Metallic foreign bodies of brain ventricles.
Abstract Head injuries are often associated with intracranial foreign bodies that require decision making on the need for certain surgical treatment. Intraventricular foreign bodies are rare, so the question of surgical tactics is still open.
Objective: To summarize the experience of treating the wounded with intraventricular foreign bodies.
Material and methods: Treatment outcomes in victims with foreign bodies in lateral ventricles are presented. Searching in the e-Library, PubMed, Google Scholar databases included the following keywords: «penetrating wounds», «foreign bodies», «cerebral ventricles», «gunshot injury», «ventricular foreign bodies». We analyzed data on the treatment of victims with intraventricular foreign bodies.
Results: Three victims underwent surgery, and foreign bodies were removed from the occipital horn of the lateral ventricle, third ventricle and temporal horn of the lateral ventricle. Conservative approach was preferred in 1 case. Follow-up ranged from 1 month to 7 years, GOS score - 3-4 points. Disability was due to severe injury and not associated with surgical treatment per se. We found 16 publications matching the searching criteria. Treatment methods varied from standard surgical approaches to stereotactic management. The indication for removal of foreign bodies was their migration through the ventricular system and occlusive hydrocephalus. None patient had neurological aggravation.
Conclusion: Intraventricular foreign bodies are rare and present certain difficulties in choosing the method and timing of treatment. Indications for their removal are migration, occlusive hydrocephalus and infectious complications. The method of removal is determined depending on location, magnetic properties, nature of injury, surgical preferences and other factors.

Abstract Electrocaloric effect (ECE) as well as field induced pyroelectric and piezoelectric effects were investigated in relaxor ceramics 0.84 PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3–0.14 PbTiO3–0.02 SrTiO3. Dielectric and elastic properties of the solid solution were also studied. To improve the accuracy and reliability of the results obtained, the electrocaloric temperature change δT was measured both by the well-known quasi-adiabatic technique with a contact temperature sensor and by the radiometric mid Infrared technique developed by the authors. The contribution of the secondary pyroelectric effect to the total pyroelectric and ECE was studied in detail. The effect of the induced piezoelectricity on the range of the temperature stability of pyroelectric and electrocaloric responses was shown. The resulting combination of material parameters at reasonable operating temperatures and electric fields, including both the possibility of increasing δT and the existence of its temperature-independent range from 10 to 80 °C, predestines the solid solution as a promising electrocaloric material.

Abstract Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) along with attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were employed to investigate the process of adsorption of propranolol hydrochloride (PPN) onto magnesium aluminium silicate (MAS) and to characterise the MAS-PPN particles formed upon complexation. The composition of MAS was confirmed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy and a calcimeter. The calorimetric results confirmed the binding between PPN and MAS at various pHs and temperatures. The overall change in enthalpy was found to be exothermic with a comparatively small entropic contribution to the total change in Gibbs free energy. These findings suggest that the binding process was enthalpically driven and entropically unfavourable (lower affinity) suggesting hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions dominating the interaction. The variation of pH and temperature did not have a great impact on the thermodynamics of the binding process, as observed from the similarity in enthalpy (ΔH), entropy (ΔS) or Gibbs free energy (ΔG). A slight reduction in the binding affinity (K
