    Abstract This study investigates the impact of empathy on the relationship between human-dog attachment and human quality of life. A survey involving 263 dog owners was conducted to gather data on attachment to dogs, empathy, and human quality of life in Korea. The findings indicate significant correlations between attachment to dogs, human empathy, and quality of life. Specifically, both general attachment and concerns for animal rights/welfare demonstrate meaningful parallel double-mediation effects. However, cognitive empathy does not show a significant double-mediation effect on human quality of life. These findings emphasize the importance of attachment and empathy towards dogs in enhancing the quality of life of both humans and dogs. The study suggests a shift in perceiving dogs as independent individuals rather than mere substitutes for humans. Future research should focus on emotional factors, particularly affective empathy, to further enhance the quality of life for both humans and dogs through improved relationships.

    Abstract Statement of problem: Although the emergence angle has been related to marginal bone loss, information regarding the relationship between the transmucosal configuration of a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) abutment at specific subgingival levels and the amount of marginal bone loss is lacking.
    Purpose: The purpose of this retrospective clinical study was to evaluate the influence of CAD-CAM abutment profile angles, measured at different subgingival positions, on the marginal bone loss of posterior single-tooth implant-supported restorations.
    Material and methods: A total of 260 posterior single-tooth implant-supported restorations using CAD-CAM abutments were analyzed in 206 patients. All implants had internal conical seal connections with a platform-switched design. The following data were extracted using digital periapical radiography: emergence profile, profile angle at distance ranges of 0 to 1 mm, 1 to 2 mm, and 2 to 3 mm from the implant-abutment junction, and peri-implant marginal bone loss (MBL). The MBL was measured from the time of delivery of the restorations up to 7 years or more. A linear mixed model was applied to investigate whether there was a significant difference in MBL based on the emergence profile and time, followed by the Bonferroni correction post hoc test. A Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between the profile angle and MBL at each distance range. The cut-off points for each distance range were determined by using the c-index, and independent t tests were conducted based on these cut-off values to evaluate the statistical differences (α=.05 for all statistical analyses).
    Results: The convex emergence profile exhibited greater MBL than the concave and straight profiles at each follow-up visit (P<.001). A significant correlation was found between the profile angle and MBL in the 0 to 1 mm, 1 to 2 mm distance ranges. However, no significant correlation was found between the profile angle and MBL in the 2 to 3 mm distance range (P>.05). The cut-off points were 34 degrees at the mesial and 28 degrees at the distal in the 0 to 1 mm range, and 33 and 20 degrees at the mesial and distal in the 1 to 2 mm range.
    Conclusions: The profile angle near the implant-abutment junction and the type of emergence profile of the CAD-CAM abutment were closely associated with MBL in implants with internal conical seal connection with a platform switch design.

    Abstract Musculoskeletal diseases and injuries are among the leading causes of pain and morbidity worldwide. Broad efforts have focused on developing pro-regenerative biomaterials to treat musculoskeletal conditions; however, these approaches have yet to make a significant clinical impact. Recent studies have demonstrated that the immune system is central in orchestrating tissue repair and that targeting pro-regenerative immune responses can improve biomaterial therapeutic outcomes. However, aging is a critical factor negatively affecting musculoskeletal tissue repair and immune function. Hence, understanding how age affects the response to biomaterials is essential for improving musculoskeletal biomaterial therapies. This review focuses on the intersection of the immune system and aging in responding to biomaterials for musculoskeletal tissue repair. The article introduces the general impacts of aging on tissue physiology, the immune system, and the response to biomaterials. Then, it explains how the adaptive immune system guides the response to injury and biomaterial implants in cartilage, muscle, and bone and discusses how aging impacts these processes in each tissue type. The review concludes by highlighting future directions for the development and translation of personalized immunomodulatory biomaterials for musculoskeletal tissue repair.     Abstract Chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment is recognized as the most typical symptom in patients with cancer that occurs during and following the chemotherapy treatment. Recently many studies focused on pharmaceutical strategies to control the chemotherapy side effects, however it is far from satisfactory. There may be a need for more effective treatment options. The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of exercise on cisplatin-induced neurotoxicity. Eightweek- old C57BL6 mice were separated into three group: normal control (CON, n = 8); cisplatin injection control (Cis-CON, n = 8); cisplatin with aerobic exercise (Cis-EXE, n = 8). Cisplatin was administered intraperitoneally at a dose of 3.5 mg/kg/day. The Cis-EXE group exercise by treadmill running (14-16 m/min for 45 min daily, 3 times/ week) for 12 weeks. Compared to the CON group, the cisplatin injection groups showed significant decrease in body weight and food intake, indicating successful induction of cisplatin toxicity. The Cis-CON group showed significantly increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α in the hippocampus, while the Cis-EXE group was significantly decreased in the expression of IL- 6, IL-1β, and TNF-α. In addition, compared to the CON group, the levels of synapserelated proteins including synapsin-1 and -2 were significantly reduced in the Cis- CON group, and there was a significant difference between the Cis-CON and Cis-EXE groups. Antioxidant and apoptosis factors were significantly improved in the Cis-EXE group compared with the Cis-CON group. This study suggest that exercise could be meaningful approach to prevent or improve cisplatin-induced cognitive impairment.

    Abstract Background: In metaphyseo-diaphyseal (M-D) mismatched Dorr A femurs, it is difficult to achieve proper fixation with a type 1 stem. Proper interpretation of the geometry of the femur is integral at the preoperative stage in an M-D mismatched femur, but there has been a scarcity of studies on the radiologic indices. Therefore, we analyze the previous radiologic indices and suggest the novel ones for M-D mismatched femurs.
    Methods: Our study was a retrospective review of preoperative radiographs of patients who underwent total hip arthroplasty with the smallest type 1 stem or with type 3 C stem at a single institution from July 2014 to March 2022. A Type 3 C stem was used when the smallest type 1 stem failed to achieve metaphyseal fixation. One hundred twenty-six patients were categorized into two main groups. Canal-flare index, canal-calcar ratio, modified morphological cortical index, and two novel indices (lesser trochanter-to-distal ratio-α and -β [LDR-α and -β]) were assessed on preoperative pelvic radiographs.
    Results: Multivariate and ROC analysis demonstrated that high LDR-β (Exp[B]: 485.51, CI: 36.67-6427.97, p < 0.001) was associated with a more mismatched tendency group and had clinically acceptable discriminatory power (AUC: 0.765, CI: 0.675-0.855, p < 0.001) between the two cohorts.
    Conclusion: Correct assessment of preoperative femoral morphology would be fundamental in the selection of a suitable stem. The ratio based on 3 cm below the lesser trochanter of the femur seemed crucial. We recommend evaluating the newly described radiological index preoperatively in M-D mismatched Dorr A femur for planning precisely and selecting a proper stem.

    Abstract Flexible and wearable devices are attracting more and more attention. Herein, we propose a self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator based on the triboelectric effect of fish scales. As the pressure on the nanogenerator increases, the output voltage of the triboelectric nanogenerator increases. The nanogenerator can output a voltage of 7.4 V and a short-circuit current of 0.18 μA under a pressure of 50 N. The triboelectric effect of fish scales was argued to be related to the lamellar structure composed of collagen fiber bundles. The nanogenerator prepared by fish scales can sensitively perceive human activities such as walking, finger tapping, and elbow bending. Moreover, fish scales are a biomass material with good biocompatibility with the body. The fish-scale nanogenerator is a kind of flexible, wearable, and self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator showing great prospects in healthcare and body information monitoring.

    Abstract Objective: Oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress play pivotal roles in disrupting the homeostasis of chondrocytes by producing catalytic proteases and enhancing chondrocyte senescence, consequently contributing to the progression of osteoarthritis (OA). Despite their close interaction, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, we show that ER stress and oxidative stress reciprocally modulate each other to promote cartilage degradation.
    Methods: Primary chondrocytes were obtained from the articular cartilage of 5-day-old C57BL/6J mice by excising distal femur and proximal tibia. Tunicamycin was applied to induce ER stress in primary chondrocytes. Surgical OA was induced in 12-week-old male C57BL/6J mice by destabilizing the medial meniscus (DMM).
    Results: Tunicamycin-induced ER stress led to an increase in the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and catalytic proteases, including MMP13 and Adamts5, in primary chondrocytes, and it was primarily dependent on the NADPH oxidase (NOX) system. ER stress directly increased the expression of NOX2, NOX3, NOX4, and p22phox. Specifically, the protein kinase RNA-like ER kinase (PERK) pathway is involved in the expression of NOX4 and p22phox, the inositol-requiring enzyme 1 alpha (IRE1α) pathway in NOX2 and NOX3 expression, and the activating transcription factor 6 (ATF6) pathway influences NOX3 expression in chondrocytes. Conversely, inhibiting NOX function significantly reduced both ER stress sensor-related signaling and chondrocyte catabolism, thereby decelerating the progression of surgically induced OA
    Conclusions: Our findings highlight the positive feedback loop between ER stress and oxidative stress in OA pathogenesis, suggesting that targeting NOX isoforms is a promising therapeutic strategy for OA.

    Abstract This paper proposes a reinforced concrete (RC) boundary beam-wall system that requires less construction material and a smaller floor height compared to the conventional RC transfer girder system. The structural performance of this system subjected to axial compression was evaluated by performing a structural test on four specimens of 1/2 scale. In addition, three-dimensional nonlinear finite element analysis was also performed to verify the effectiveness of the boundary beam-wall system. Three test parameters such as the lower wall length-to-upper wall length ratio, lower wall thickness, and stirrup details of the lower wall were considered. The load-displacement curve was plotted for each specimen and its failure mode was identified. The test results showed that decrease in the lower wall length-to-upper wall length ratio significantly reduced the peak strength of the boundary beam-wall system and difference in upper and lower wall thicknesses resulted in lateral bending caused by eccentricity in the out-of-plane direction. Additionally, incorporating cross-ties and reducing stirrup spacing in the lower wall significantly improved initial stiffness and peak strength, effectively minimizing stress concentration.

    Abstract Background: Burkitt-like lymphoma with 11q aberration (BLL-11q) is a rare provisional lymphoma, and the majority of cases are usually diagnosed by excisional lymph node biopsy. Here we report a case of BLL-11q diagnosed by needle biopsy of the liver in order to improve further understanding of the disease, reduce misdiagnosis, and identify treatment regimens.
    Case summary: The patient was a 67-year-old male. He complained of increased frequency of stools for more than one year, periumbilical pain and discomfort exceeding 3 mo. A computed tomography scan suggested an appendiceal malignant tumor with multiple metastases of the peritoneum, omentum, and liver. Needle biopsy of liver nodules showed that the tumor cells were of median size, the shape was consistent, a small number of tumor cells were large, the "starry sky" pattern was evident, and some tissue cells showed multiple apoptotic debris with coarse particles. Immunohistochemistry was positive for CD20, CD10, BCL6, and MYC. The Ki-67 proliferation index was more than 95%. Molecular biological detection indicated a lack of
    Conclusion: BLL-11q is rare, but patients treated with standard chemotherapy for Burkitt lymphoma can have a good prognosis. Reducing the dose of chemotherapy or developing specific therapies to prevent overtreatment may be considered, but more case studies are needed.
