Abstract Herpes simplex virus (HSV) is the most widely prevalent herpes virus worldwide, and the herpetic encephalitis and genital herpes caused by HSV infection have caused serious harm to human health all over the world. Although many anti-HSV drugs such as nucleoside analogues have been ap-proved for clinical use during the past few decades, important issues, such as drug resistance, toxicity, and high cost of drugs, remain unresolved. Recently, the studies on the anti-HSV activities of marine natural products, such as marine polysaccharides, marine peptides and microbial secondary metabolites are attracting more and more attention all over the world. This review discusses the recent progress in research on the anti-HSV activities of these natural compounds obtained from marine organisms, relating to their structural features and the structure-activity relationships. In addition, the recent findings on the different anti-HSV mechanisms and molecular targets of marine compounds and their potential for therapeutic application will also be summarized in detail.

Abstract Background: A substantial body of evidence is drawing connections between Parkinson's disease (PD) and the phenomena of oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Polyphyllin VI (PPVI), an active compound found in Rhizoma Paridis-commonly known as Chonglou (CL) in China, has been identified for its various pharmacological properties, including anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory effects.
Objective: In the present study, an in vitro model of PD was established by treating SH-SY5Y cells with rotenone (ROT), to evaluate the potential neuroprotective effects of polyphyllin VI and its underlying mechanism.
Methods: SH-SY5Y cells were treated with ROT to establish an in vitro model of PD. The effects of polyphyllin VI on cell viability were assessed using the resazurin assay. Cell morphology was examined using a microscope. The YO-PRO-1/PI was used to detect apoptosis. Mito-Tracker Red CMXRos, Mito-Tracker Green, and JC-1 were used to detect the effects of polyphyllin Ⅵ on mitochondrial viability, morphology, and function. Oxidative stress-related marker detection kits were used to identify the effects of polyphyllin VI on oxidative stress. Western blot analysis was employed to investigate the signaling pathways associated with neuroprotection.
Results: PPVI increased ROT-induced SH-SY5Y cell viability and improved ROT-induced cellular morphological changes. PPVI ameliorated ROT-induced oxidative stress status, and attenuated mitochondrial function and morphological changes. PPVI may exert neuroprotective effects through FOXO3α/CREB1/DJ-1-related signaling pathways.
Conclusion: These preliminary findings suggested that PPVI possesses neuroprotective attributes in vitro, and it may be a potential candidate for PD treatment. However, extensive research is necessary to fully understand the mechanisms of PPVI and its effectiveness both in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract Abstract Understanding attention dynamics on social media during pandemics could help governments minimize the effects. We focus on how COVID-19 has influenced the attention dynamics on the biggest Chinese microblogging website Sina Weibo during the first four months of the pandemic. We study the real-time Hot Search List (HSL), which provides the ranking of the most popular 50 hashtags based on the amount of Sina Weibo searches. We show how the specific events, measures and developments during the epidemic affected the emergence of different kinds of hashtags and the ranking on the HSL. A significant increase of COVID-19 related hashtags started to occur on HSL around January 20, 2020, when the transmission of the disease between humans was announced. Then very rapidly a situation was reached where COVID-related hashtags occupied 30–70% of the HSL, however, with changing content. We give an analysis of how the hashtag topics changed during the investigated time span and conclude that there are three periods separated by February 12 and March 12. In period 1, we see strong topical correlations and clustering of hashtags; in period 2, the correlations are weakened, without clustering pattern; in period 3, we see a potential of clustering while not as strong as in period 1. We further explore the dynamics of HSL by measuring the ranking dynamics and the lifetimes of hashtags on the list. This way we can obtain information about the decay of attention, which is important for decisions about the temporal placement of governmental measures to achieve permanent awareness. Furthermore, our observations indicate abnormally higher rank diversity in the top 15 ranks on HSL due to the COVID-19 related hashtags, revealing the possibility of algorithmic intervention from the platform provider.

Abstract Ischemic stroke (IS) is a prevalent form of stroke and a leading cause of mortality and disability. Recently, cell membrane-derived nanovehicles (CMNVs) derived from erythrocytes, thrombocytes, neutrophils, macrophages, neural stem cells, and cancer cells have shown great promise as drug delivery systems for IS treatment. By precisely controlling drug release rates and targeting specific sites in the brain, CMNVs enable the reduction in drug dosage and minimization of side effects, thus significantly enhancing therapeutic strategies and approaches for IS. While there are some reviews regarding the applications of CMNVs in the treatment of IS, there has been limited attention given to important aspects such as carrier construction, structural design, and functional modification. Therefore, this review aims to address these key issues in CMNVs preparation, structural composition, modification, and other relevant aspects, with a specific focus on targeted therapy for IS. Finally, the challenges and prospects in this field are discussed.

Abstract Surgical resection is rarely employed for the treatment of metastatic gastric cancer, especially in patients with adrenal metastases, which usually indicate advanced systemic dissemination. Few published case reports have thus described the use of adrenalectomy for adrenal metastases from gastric cancer. In addition, most primary gastric malignancies are gastric adenocarcinomas, and gastric large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma (GLCNEC) is less common and has a poor prognosis. We report the case of a 71-year-old man who was diagnosed with solitary adrenal metastases 10 months after radical resection for GLCNEC and who was treated by adrenalectomy. He was followed-up for 9 months after adrenalectomy, with no further evidence of disease at his last follow-up examination. This case indicates that elective surgical resection may be feasible, even in rare cases of GLCNEC metastases to the adrenal glands, provided that the patient meets certain criteria, including solitary, metachronous tumors less than 4 cm.

Abstract Cooling structures of gas turbine blades have become more complex to achieve a better cooling effect. Therefore, heat transfer analysis tools with higher accuracy and efficiency are required to verify the effectiveness of cooling designs and continuously improve the design. In this work, a data-driven method is combined with a decoupled conjugate heat transfer analysis. The analysis object is a typical air-cooled gas turbine first-stage vane with film cooling, impingement cooling, and pin-fin cooling. In addition, a conventional 3-D conjugate heat transfer simulation of the vane was executed for contrast. Results show that this method shortens the time of the heat transfer analysis process significantly and ensures accuracy. It proves that the data-driven method is effective for the evaluation of a modern gas turbine cooling design and is an improvement compared to the traditional three-dimensional heat transfer analysis method.

Abstract In this paper, we investigate the impact of economic policy uncertainty (EPU) on the conditional dependence between China and U.S. stock markets by employing the Copula-mixed-data sampling (Copula-MIDAS) framework. In the case of EPU, we consider the global EPU (GEPU), the American EPU (AEPU), and the China EPU (CEPU). The empirical analysis based on the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite (SSEC) index in China and the S&P 500 index in the U.S. shows that the tail dependence between China and U.S. stock markets is symmetrical, and the t Copula outperforms alternative Copulas in terms of in-sample goodness of fit. In particular, we find that the t Copula-MIDAS model with EPU dominates the traditional time-varying t Copula in terms of in-sample fitting. Moreover, we observe that both the GEPU and AEPU have a significantly positive impact on the conditional dependence between China and U.S. stock markets, whereas CEPU has no significant impact. The tail dependence between China and U.S. stock markets exhibits an increasing trend, particularly in the recent years.

Abstract According to previous studies, the Chinese revised Hukou system has not been proven to be effective in the short-term movement of the rural labor force or in controlling urban populations. In this study, we address and analyze the self-selection problem from the perspective of inflows of short-term migration from the rural labor force and the endogeneity problem in the adoption of the revised Hukou system, based on the data from China Family Panel Studies (CFPS). The study shows that the revised Hukou system adopted by Chinese local governments was significantly efficient and harmed the short-term migration decisions of the rural labor force.

Abstract To learn more about the impact of college sports services on student sports activity intentions, as well as the function of pleasure and involvement as a mediating factor in this process. According to the nature of the service, this study separates college sports services into basic and advanced sports two types, selects 482 students from five institutions in Hunan Province for a questionnaire survey based on spatial dimensions, and analyzes the data using a structural equation model. The findings show that (1) there is a positive correlation between college students’ perception levels of basic and advanced sports services (p = 0.01); (2) perception of basic sports services is closely related to cognize involvement (r = 0.717), and perception of advanced sports services is closely related to affective involvement (r = 0.830); and (3) perception of basic sports services is closely related to cognize involvement (r = 0.717). (3) Satisfaction and involvement show a substantial mediation effect between sports service and sports behavioral intention, with involvement having a bigger influence on sports behavioral intention (effect percent = 52.63%) than satisfaction. (4) Advanced sports services are easier to improve students’ behavioral intentions than basic sports services in a comparison of the two categories of college sports services. To summarize the findings of the four studies, it can be seen that ensuring the balanced development of basic and advanced sports services, adjusting service content to increase student involvement, and improving resource allocation to advanced sports service content are all effective ways to strengthen students’ sports behavioral intention in the service strategy.
