Abstract Desmoids are a rare type of tumor with an unpredictable natural history. The annual incidence in the general population is estimated at 2.4-4.3 cases per million. This rare case is considered a diagnostic challenge. Therefore, the emergence of knowledge of CT features and other findings is an important aspect in the diagnosis. In this case study, we present a 57-year-old female patient with a 2-year history of chest pain in the right upper chest. To establish a proper diagnosis a chest X-ray was performed and showed opacities in the right hemithorax, and computed tomography revealed a solid pleural mass measuring 4.4 cm × 4 cm × 3 cm. Along with imaging results, histopathological examination and immunohistochemical analysis of an open biopsy revealed a desmoid tumor.

Abstract The incidence of skeletal tuberculosis is about 1%-5% of all tuberculous infections. The most common sites are the spine, hip, knee, foot, elbow, hand, and shoulder, whereas the sternum, ribs, sternoclavicular joint, and calvaria are rarely affected. Because of the emergence of skeletal tuberculosis in therapeutic management, radiologists need to be aware of the imaging findings in pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Conventional X-ray plays an important role in diagnosing pulmonary and skeletal tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is known as the 'great mimicker', however, thus computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging may provide additional details that assist the radiologist in distinguishing this tubercular infection from others. We report the case of a young male patient with skeletal tuberculosis who presented with general weakness, paraplegia, and a calvarial mass.

Abstract Primary pulmonary myxoid sarcoma (PPMS) is an extremely rare malignant mesenchymal tumor of the lung, with only less than 40 cases reported. We described a case of a 64-years-old man with a mass on the medial and lower lobe of the right lung confirmed as a primary pulmonary myxoid sarcoma on biopsy. Diagnosis of this tumor remains challenging because of its nonspecific clinical and imaging characteristics. This study emphasizes CT finding to improve the understanding of PPMS.

Abstract Background and Objective: Preservation using antimicrobials has been observed to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria in food. Nowadays many people choose food preservatives that are safe for health and natural. Bacteriocins as food preservatives are safe because antimicrobials from the antimicrobial peptide group include GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe). Bacteriocin-producing LAB can be found in various fermented foods, one of which is "Dadih". Bacteriocins are expected to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria so that they can be developed as an alternative to food preservatives. Materials and Methods: In this study, all experiments were performed with two replicates and the results were expressed as Mean±Standard Deviation (SD). Results: Screening results showed that the DK8 isolate had the highest antimicrobial activity. The DK8 isolate was identified molecularly using 16s RNA sequencing, showing that the DK8 isolate had the highest similarity to Lactobacillus pentosus strain 124-2. Bacteriocins from DK8 isolate and partially purified using ammonium sulfate precipitation at concentrations of 50, 60 and 70%. The addition of ammonium sulfate with a concentration of 50% showed the highest antimicrobial activity against Salmonella sp. (12.63 mm) and Escherichia coli (11.33 mm) while the highest antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus was the addition of 60% ammonium sulfate (8.13 mm). Conclusion: Lactic acid bacteria isolate was identified to have the highest similarity with Lactobacillus pentosus strain 124-2 and precipitation using 50% ammonium sulfate showed the highest antimicrobial activity.

Abstract Due to drought and climate change, estimation and prediction of rainfall is quite important in various areas all over the world. In this study, a novel artificial intelligence (AI) technique (WGEP) was developed to model long-term rainfall (67 years period) in Anzali city for the first time. This model was combined using Wavelet Transform (WT) and Gene Expression Programming (GEP) model. Firstly, the most optimized member of wavelet families was chosen. Then, by analyzing the numerical models, the most accurate linking function and fitness function were selected for the GEP model. Next, using the autocorrelation function (ACF), the partial autocorrelation function (PACF) and different lags, 15 WGEP models were introduced. The GEP models were trained, tested and validated in 37, 20- and 10-years periods, respectively. Also, using sensitivity analysis, the superior model and the most effective lags for estimating long-term rainfall were identified. The superior model estimated the target function with high accuracy. For instance, correlation coefficient and scatter index for this model were 0.946 and 0.310, respectively. Additionally, lags 1, 2, 4 and 12 were proposed as the most effective lags for simulating rainfall using hybrid model. Furthermore, results of the superior hybrid model were compared with GEP model that the hybrid model had more accuracy.

Abstract Promiscuous enzymes have shown their synthetic abilities in generating various organic compounds with high selectively and efficiency under mild conditions. Therefore, the design and development of conditions to raise promiscuity to the enzymes have been under the spotlight in recent years. Flavin reductase, that reduces flavins by using NADH as a cofactor, has not been studied in promiscuous reactions. In the present study, it was aimed to develop a catalytic promiscuous activity in the recombinant

Abstract Background: Diabetic nephropathy is a clinical syndrome characterized by persistent albuminuria and progressive impairment in renal function. Pentoxifylline is a non-specific inhibitor of phosphodiesterase with anti-inflammatory properties which may have therapeutic potency in patients with diabetic kidney disease.
Objective: The present study is aimed at evaluating the efficacy of pentoxifylline as a treatment strategy for alleviating the microalbuminuria in type-2 diabetic patients with nephropathy.
Methods: This double-blind randomized clinical trial was performed on outpatients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy who presented urine albumin excretion of 30-300 mg per 24 hours on at least three consecutive occasions. A total of 58 patients were randomly assigned to the treatment and control groups. The treatment group (n=29) received pentoxifylline (400 mg/day) for 3 months in addition to the standard drugs for diabetic nephropathy (Raas blockers), while the control group (n=29) received placebo as add-on therapy. Finally, urine albumin test was measured before and after 3 months of treatment and compared between the two groups.
Results: Before the intervention, no significant difference in the levels of albuminuria was observed between the two groups (153.21±130.80 mg/day vs. 159.93 ±130.45; p=0.845); but after 12 weeks of treatment, albuminuria in the treatment group was significantly reduced compared to the placebo group (29.59 ±27.88 mg/day vs. 160.48±129.53 mg/day; p<0.0001). At the end of the study, the response rate to treatment (more than 50% reduction in albuminuria) was 89.7% in the pentoxifylline group, while no response to treatment was observed in the placebo group (p<0.0001).
Conclusions: Pentoxifylline as add-on therapy to the conventional treatment (Raas blockers) may reduce the microalbuminuria in patients with diabetic nephropathy without any side effects.

Abstract Introduction: Ectopic thyroid is an uncommon condition resulting from the aberrant development of the normal thyroid gland and is usually found along the thyroglossal tract: lingual, submandibular, thyroglossal cysts, intra-tracheal and mediastinal, or, on rare occasions, in the adrenal gland, gallbladder, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, and struma ovarii.
Case reports: We describe a novel case where primary papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) was found after a trans-oral excision of a tumor containing ectopic thyroid tissue at the posterior pharynx, an area not known to be a location for ectopic thyroid. Delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in regional cervical metastases and multifocal PTC. The female patient successfully underwent total thyroidectomy, selective cervical and central lymph node dissection, followed by adjuvant radioactive iodine ablation, with no evidence of distant metastases.
Conclusions: Ectopic thyroid tissue is uncommon and may be in the posterior pharynx. The principles of management remain those of differentiated thyroid malignancy: complete surgical resection of any tumor focus, total thyroidectomy, and node dissection of involved lymph nodes, followed by adjuvant radioactive iodine in iodine-sensitive tumors.

Abstract Sonophotocatalysis is described as a combination of two individual processes of photocatalysis and sonocatalysis. It has proven to be highly promising in degrading dissolved contaminants in wastewaters as well as bacteria disinfection applications. It eliminates some of the main disadvantages observed in each individual technique such as high costs, sluggish activity, and prolonged reaction times. The review has accomplished a critical analysis of sonophotocatalytic reaction mechanisms and the effect of the nanostructured catalyst and process modification techniques on the sonophotocatalytic performance. The synergistic effect between the mentioned processes, reactor design, and the electrical energy consumption has been discussed due to their importance when implementing this novel technology in practical applications, such as real industrial or municipal wastewater treatment plants. The utilization of sonophotocatalysis in disinfection and inactivation of bacteria has also been reviewed. In addition, we further suggest improvements to promote this technology from the lab-scale to large-scale applications. We hope this up-to-date review will advance future research in this field and push this technology toward widespread adoption and commercialization.
