    Abstract BackgroundAir pollution is related to the occurrence and development of mental diseases. Olfactory bulb damage might be the potential prodromal symptom and sign of these diseases. The toxicity of diesel exhaust (DE), one of the main sources of air pollution, on olfactory bulb and the underlying mechanisms remain to be elucidated. ObjectiveTo explore the toxicity of DE on mouse olfactory bulb and underlying mechanisms. MethodsA total of 40 C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups for exposure to DE by systemic inhalation: control group (filtered air), low exposure group (750 μg·m−3 DE), medium exposure group (1500 μg·m−3 DE), and high exposure group (3000 μg·m−3 DE). The mouse inhalation exposure to DE was performed 1 h per day for 28 d. HE staining was performed to observe pathological changes in mouse olfactory bulb tissue. TUNEL assay was used to observe apop-tosis in olfactory bulb. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) was exhibited to explore potential mechanisms of olfactory bulb damage associated with DE. Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) was used to determine mRNA expression levels of inflammatory factors including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Immunofluorescence staining was conducted to observed the microglia and astrocyte activation in olfactory bulb. ResultsThe HE staining results showed that the number of periglomerular cells in the glomerular layer of olfactory bulb decreased in a dose-dependent manner, and the cells in the granule cell layer of olfactory bulb became disordered after DE exposure. The TUNEL staining showed that TUNEL positive cells in olfactory bulb tissue and neuronal apoptosis increased in the exposed groups compared with the control group (P<0.05). The KEGG pathway analysis showed that DE associated with significant enrichment of TNF signaling pathway in olfactory bulb tissue.     Abstract BackgroundIt has been well investigated that nature exposure intervention can restore directed attention and improve subsequent cognitive performance. The impairment of decision-making skills in mentally fatigued soccer players was attributed to the inability of attention allocation. However, nature exposure as the potential intervention to counter mental fatigue and improve the subsequent decision-making skill in soccer players has never been investigated.ObjectsThis study aimed to evaluate the effects of nature exposure intervention on decision-making skills among mentally fatigued university soccer players. Moreover, different durations of nature exposure were also evaluated.MethodsA random control between-subject design was adopted. Players were randomly assigned into six groups with three different durations of the experimental group compared with the corresponding control group (4.17 min: Exp 1 vs. Con 1; 8.33 min: Exp 2 vs. Con 2; and 12.50 min: Exp 3 vs. Con 3). All players were first mentally fatigued by performing a 45-min Stroop task; then, they viewed virtual photos of natural or urban scenes; and finally, they performed a soccer decision-making task.ResultsThe subjective ratings of mental fatigue were significantly higher following the Stroop task. Only Exp 3 (12.50 min viewing natural scenes) significantly improved decision-making reaction time compared with Con 3 (p = 0.09). Moreover, the accuracy slightly increased in Exp 3 after the intervention.ConclusionIn line with attention restoration theory, nature exposure significantly improved decision-making skills in mentally fatigue university players. However, the duration must be 12.50 min for each stimulus to stay longer to attract involuntary attention.

    Abstract “Chloroquine phosphate” was listed as a trial drug in diagnosis and treatment program of COVID-19(trial sixth edition), and the application of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine treatment for COVID-19 in medical institutions also increased. Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine have certain retinal toxicity, its mechanism is still unclear, due to different drug tolerance, the risk degree of retinal toxicity in COVID-19 treatment is unclear. Therefore, when using chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19, it is recommended to choose the appropriate dosage according to patients' situation, and adopt necessary ophthalmic screening for patients with high risk to prevent the occurrence of retinopathy. In this paper, we described the risk factors, clinical manifestations and screening methods of retinal toxicity caused by chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, in order to provide references for the safer use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19.

    Abstract Background Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common complications of diabetes and has become a major global cause of blindness. Curcumin, an extract of Curcuma longa (turmeric), is effective in preventing and treating diabetes. Recent studies have shown that curcumin can delay DR development. However, there has been no systematic review of its treatment of DR. This study will conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of currently published randomized controlled trials (RCT) of curcumin for treating DR patients to evaluate its efficacy and safety. Methods We will search the relevant studies of curcumin in the treatment of DR in PubMed, Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP, and Wanfang databases from their respective inception dates to May 2022. A meta-analysis of the data extracted from qualified RCTs will be conducted, including the progression of DR, visual acuity, visual field, macular edema, quality of life, and adverse events. The meta-analysis will be performed using Review Manager 5.4.1 software, and the results will be based on either random-effects or fixed-effects models, depending on the heterogeneity. The Grading of Recommendations, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system will be used to evaluate the reliability and quality of evidence. Results The results of this study will provide sound and high-quality evidence for the efficacy and safety of curcumin in the treatment of DR. Conclusion This study will be the first meta-analysis to comprehensively assess the efficacy and safety of curcumin in the treatment of DR and will provide helpful evidence for the clinical management of this disease.     Abstract In this study, an urban fringe green space classification system was established to explore the spatiotemporal variation of green space landscape and ecosystem service value (ESV) based on multi-source land-use data of Ganjingzi district from 2000 to 2018. (1) Results show that the total green space area declined from 359.57 to 213.46 km2 over the study period. Green space large plaque index (LPI) and class area both gradually declined, whereas the number of plaques (NP) and plaque density (PD) gradually increased, indicating green space landscape fragmentation. (2) Additionally, the value of green space ecosystem services reduced from 397.42 to 124.93 million yuan. The dynamic degree of ESV change in green space increased or decreased moderately, always being < 0 and showing a decreasing trend of ESV. From a spatial variation perspective, dynamic degrees of ESV variation in the western and northern regions with relatively intensive green space were higher than those in the east. Regarding ESV of various green space types, forest land had the highest functional values of ecological regulation and support, whereas arable land provided the highest functional values of production supply. (3) The ecological service function value of green space system is negatively correlated with PD, NP, edge density, landscape shape index, and Shannon's diversity index, and positively correlated with aggregation index, contagion metrics, and LPI. The correlation coefficient between the climate regulation function of forest and the change of number of plaques is -0.874. The correlation coefficient of the recreation and culture of the wetland to the plaque density change is no less than -0.214.

    Abstract Purpose: Taichi Chuan was previously shown to benefit physical health, but the results were inconsistent. The main reason is that the mechanism is not clear and may be interpreted differently. In this systematic review, we analyzed the data obtained from various randomized controlled trials to identify the effectiveness of Taichi Chuan and the mechanism by which it improves the physical health of adults.
    Methods: We systematically searched various databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, EBSCO Host, Science Direct, CNKI, Wan-Fang, and VPCS, and obtained 1448 articles for review. The articles were selected following the PICO eligibility criteria. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to interpret the results of the different studies.
    Results: We included 16 studies in the systematic review. Six of them were of very high quality, ten were of acceptable quality. Overall, the results showed that Taichi Chuan is beneficial to physical fitness, but not all indices supported this statement. Specifically, the effects were significant on Balance (ES = - 0.33; P = 0.02), BMI (ES = - 0.83; P < 0.00001), body fat (ES = - 0.45; P < 0.00001), and vital capacity (ES = 23.39; P = 0.01). However, there were no significant effects on systolic blood pressure (ES = 0.07; P = 0.94) and diastolic blood pressure (ES = 0.03; P = 0.97).
    Conclusion: We found sufficient high-quality evidence to suggest that Taichi Chuan affects balance, BMI, body fat, vital capacity, and flexibility (sit-reach) in adults. The mechanism can be explained by low posture (balance) and moderate intensity of Taichi Chuan. However, no study has explained how to maintain concentration while keeping a dynamic low posture, which made it difficult to validate the finding that Taichi Chuan can reduce sympathetic tension under stress. In this study, we assumed that relaxation methods, which work on the central nervous system that links the body and the mind, might be the key explanation. However, further studies based on scientific, replicable methods need to be performed to confirm our findings.

    Abstract Substandard drugs are a major public health issue worldwide. Key person such as the Qualified Person in China and Europe is responsible for rejecting substandard drugs during the manufacturing stage. This study applies the Hunt-Vitell ethical decision-making model to study their rejection intentions on substandard drugs. Using the experimental vignette methodology, two scenarios were developed to represent different levels of deviation from regulations in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Responses from 204 Chinese key persons show a decline in deontology, ethical judgment, and rejection intention, and an increase in teleology in the minor deviation scenario, in comparison with the major deviation scenario. The results from the two scenarios show that the Hunt-Vitell ethical decision-making model is well fitted to explain substandard drug rejection intentions. Organizational and occupational commitments have a significant positive impact on deontological evaluation. Whereas, occupational commitments have a significant negative impact on teleological evaluation. This study suggests that strengthening occupational commitment can significantly affect key person's rejection intentions of substandard drugs.

    Abstract Primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) is a progressive optic neuropathy and its damage to vision is irreversible. Therefore, early diagnosis assisted by biomarkers is essential. Although there were multiple researches on the identification of POAG biomarkers, few studies systematically revealed the transcriptome dysregulation mechanism of POAG from the perspective of pre- and post-transcription of genes. Here, we have collected multiple sets of POAG’s aqueous humor (AH) tissue transcription profiles covering long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), mRNA and mircoRNA (miRNA). Through differential expression analysis, we identified thousands of significant differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the AH tissue of POAG and non-glaucoma. Further, the DEGs were used to construct a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) regulatory network and 1,653 qualified lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory units were identified. Two ceRNA regulatory subnets were identified based on the random walk algorithm and revealed to be involved in the regulation of multiple complex diseases. At the pre-transcriptional regulation level, a transcriptional regulatory network was constructed and three transcription factors (FOS, ATF4, and RELB) were identified to regulate the expression of multiple genes and participate in the regulation of T cells. Moreover, we revealed the immune desert status of AH tissue for POAG patients based on immune infiltration analysis and identified a specific AL590666.2-hsa−miR−339−5p-UROD axis can be used as a biomarker of POAG. Taken together, the identification of regulatory mechanisms and biomarkers will contribute to the individualized diagnosis and treatment for POAG.

    Abstract For megacities, they are in a period of transformation from extensive development to smart growth. Recognizing new characteristics and new changes of the residential space in megacities under the backdrop of new development has great practical significance for realizing the sustainable development of the city. As the only megacity in Northeast China, Shenyang was selected to be the research object, with 1989–2018 as the research period. The research comprehensively used multiple spatial representation methods and statistical methods to study the residential space pattern and driving factors in Shenyang City. The results showed that: (1) Residential space expansion can be divided into four stages: slow development, rapid expansion, speedy expansion, and stable extension. (2) The residential space structure presented a spatial evolution characteristic of overall expansion, forming multiple secondary core density centers. The east-west direction had a larger extension range than the northeast-southwest direction. There was an axisymmetric zonal distribution on both sides of the Hun River. (3) The agglomeration of different residential forms was obvious, and the spatial heterogeneity was increasingly stronger. (4) Urban planning measures and economic strength were the main driving forces of residential space expansion.
