Abstract This book brings together carefully selected case studies to teach important principles relating to drug and toxin exposures. Each case study includes contemporary clinical and forensic toxicologist studies that include a comprehensive analytical and clinical approach to patient management and address overdoses from designer drugs, to NSAIDS, to opioids, to stimulants. These cases present a comprehensive, analytical and clinical approach to managing a drug overdose. This is a must-have reference for clinical and forensic laboratory scientists, along with toxicology and pathology residents who need to know aspects of both.--

Abstract Artificial Intelligence is used for various business processes including hiring employees. The purpose of this article is to assess the flip-side of Artificial Intelligence applied in recruitment software. Its insufficiency of delivering the expected results in terms of the right match for the hiring, difficulty in language processing. The paper reviews the literature available to understand the principles of Socio-technical systems design requirements and on Artificial Intelligence’s usage in the recruitment process. The research is qualitative, has followed the phenomenology approach, and uses the interview technique for understanding the opinions of the users. The results reveal that, though AI in recruitment provides ease in searching the candidate’s barriers in language and recognition, low turn-in ratio, incorrect recommendations due to Data inadequacy, skepticism among HR professionals due to lack of human intelligence, need for budgets for acquiring and training are issues. It is proposed to incorporate the guidelines of Socio-Technical System Design and Human-machine teaming for designing the Artificial Intelligence tools. Further studies could be conducted to understand the limitations of the frameworks available for designing such tools.

Abstract Background: Food insecurity is increasing due to economic recession, resulting in childhood malnutrition, a risk factor for adult morbidities. Strategies to prevent and combat it are being implemented. This study aimed to evaluate the menus used in school feeding programs and their impact on the health and well-being of children in South Africa. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of nine primary schools in four South African provinces—Gauteng, Western Cape, North- West, and KwaZulu-Natal—was conducted between April 2022 and May 2022. Three schools were randomly selected per province, totaling 36 respondents—comprising a principal/NSNP coordinator, a teacher, and a food handler per school. An observational checklist was also employed. Weekly menus at each school were obtained, and dietary intake data were evaluated using the NutriSurvey application and the South African Food Composition table. Qualitative data were thematically analyzed using an inductive approach in Atlas. Ti software, while Microsoft Excel was utilized for the checklist. Results: The surveys indicated that in-school nutrition programs have positively impacted schoolchildren’s well-being and academic performance. Menu evaluation revealed that most National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) lunch meals did not provide up to 25-30% of the children’s recommended dietary allowance (RDA), but the Tiger Brands Foundation (TBF) breakfast augmented this by providing an additional 10-20% of the RDAs. Regarding breakfast meals, the highest mean RDA met per week was for calcium (21%), while Gauteng lunch had the highest mean RDA met values for most nutrients, including protein (15%), vitamin A (78%), vitamin B9 (37%), vitamin B12 (140%), vitamin C (33%), and iron (29%). The health checklist showed that all respondents affirmed that the children were generally healthy. Conclusion: The school feeding menus contribute to the percentage of RDAs met for essential nutrients and the well-being of children, although the contribution is not significant, as not all RDAs ...

Abstract Objectives: Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) have a crucial role in assisting individuals with dementia due to the communication and swallowing challenges associated with the disease. As the number of dementia cases rises in India at an increasing rate, investigating the level of dementia knowledge of SLP students can offer insight into the preparedness of the healthcare system to meet this emerging demand.
Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted on SLP students pursuing their final year undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees from four universities across India. Dementia knowledge was assessed using the Dementia Knowledge Assessment Scale (DKAS) and information about previous dementia exposure (both formal and informal) was collected. The collected data were analysed using quantitative methods.
Results: A total of 220 students (64.70% response rate) completed the survey. Overall dementia knowledge was inadequate with an average score of 22.08 ± 10.06. Previous dementia exposure among the students was also found to be low and did not affect dementia knowledge scores.
Discussion: Despite the fundamental role SLPs play in the care of individuals with dementia, the lack of knowledge in this area emphasizes the need for enhancing dementia training programs through educational curricula and clinical placements.

Title translation Prognostic factors and survival in adult acute leukemia in Burkina Faso.
Abstract Introduction: Acute leukemia is both a diagnostic and therapeutic emergency. Our study aimed to describe the prognostic factors and survival of adults with acute leukemia in Burkina Faso.
Patients and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with retrospective data collection covering a period of 4.5 years (2018-2022) in two university hospitals in Burkina Faso. Were included all patients over 18 years hospitalized for acute leukemia in these sites with a usable medical record.
Results: A total of 42 cases were collected, of which 45% suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia and 43% from acute myeloid leukemia. In 12% of cases, acute leukemia was not classified. The average age was 35 ± 15 years, with extremes of 19 and 72 years. 12% of the patients presented an age of poor prognosis. Comorbidities were present in 14% of patients. The deterioration in general condition was fairly constant with 95% of patients at WHO stages 3 and 4. All patients presented with bone marrow failure syndrome and tumor syndrome was found in 45%. Anemia and thrombocytopenia were present in almost all cases. Hyperleukocytosis at diagnosis was present in 28 patients (67%); among them 18 patients (64%) had leukocytes greater than 50 G/L. Death in hospital was found in 38% of patients and loss of sight in 31%. The median survival was 3 months. Survival was 30% at 6 months and 0% at 12 months.
Conclusion: Acute leukemias are in our practice conditions of poor prognosis with a fairly short survival.

Abstract Binary metal oxides possess unique structures and multiple oxidation states, making them highly valuable in electrochemical analysis. This study aims to determine the effect of annealing temperature on the electrochemical properties of magnesium ferrite when used as an electrode material in a neutral aqueous electrolyte. We utilized the sol-gel technique to synthesize the material and annealed it at various temperatures. Our analysis of the material using different characterization techniques reveals significant changes in its structural and electrochemical properties. We found that the material exhibited a range of phases, and higher annealing temperatures led to improved electrochemical properties. The electrochemical measurements showed reversible and redox pseudo-capacitance behavior, with the material annealed at 500 °C exhibiting the highest specific capacitance of 117 F g

Abstract The social identity development of adolescents in marginalized communities across the globe holds paramount significance in determining the overall well-being of its future population. Focusing on one such community, the Kodavas, an Indigenous community in South India, this study aims to understand the shifting configurations of social identity based on the changing sociocultural structure and its implications on identity perception among the adolescents belonging to the Kodava community in Kodagu district in Karnataka, India. This study used a qualitative research design to develop an analytical framework of social identity formation and its transitions in the context of the Kodavas. Data were collected from 188 adolescents (47% boys, 53% girls) between 13 and 17 years (M
