Abstract This Special Issue contains a series of excellent research works on telecommunications and signal processing, selected from the 2018 41st International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (TSP) which was held on July 4-6, 2018, in Athens, Greece. The conference was organized in cooperation with the IEEE Region 8 (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), IEEE Greece Section, IEEE Czechoslovakia Section, and IEEE Czechoslovakia Section SP/CAS/COM Joint Chapter by seventeen universities from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Turkey, Taiwan, Japan, Slovak Republic, Spain, Bulgaria, France, Slovenia, Croatia, and Poland, for academics, researchers, and developers, and serves as a premier international forum for the annual exchange and promotion of the latest advances in telecommunication technology and signal processing. The aim of the conference is to bring together both novice and experienced scientists, developers, and specialists, to meet new colleagues, collect new ideas, and establish new cooperation between research groups from universities, research centers, and private sectors worldwide. This collection of 10 papers is highly recommended for researchers, and believed to be interesting, inspiring, and motivating for readers in their further research

Abstract Recommender systems are becoming an integral part of routine life, as they are extensively used in daily decision-making processes such as online shopping for products or services, job references, matchmaking for marriage purposes, and many others. However, these recommender systems are lacking in producing quality recommendations owing to sparsity issues. Keeping this in mind, the present study introduces a hybrid recommendation model for recommending music artists to users which is hierarchical Bayesian in nature, known as Relational Collaborative Topic Regression with Social Matrix Factorization (RCTR-SMF). This model makes use of a lot of auxiliary domain knowledge and provides seamless integration of Social Matrix Factorization and Link Probability Functions into Collaborative Topic Regression-based recommender systems to attain better prediction accuracy. Here, the main emphasis is on examining the effectiveness of unified information related to social networking and an item-relational network structure in addition to item content and user-item interactions to make predictions for user ratings. RCTR-SMF addresses the sparsity problem by utilizing additional domain knowledge, and it can address the cold-start problem in the case that there is hardly any rating information available. Furthermore, this article exhibits the proposed model performance on a large real-world social media dataset. The proposed model provides a recall of 57% and demonstrates its superiority over other state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms.

Abstract With changing times, the need for security increases in all fields, whether we talk about cloud networks or vehicular networks. In every place, it has its importance, but in vehicular networks where the lives of human beings are involved, security becomes the topmost priority. Therefore, this article aims to shed light on Misbehavior Detection Framework (MDF) used in the Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems community. Here, MDF keeps an eye on malicious entities on the roads. It is done by regularly evaluating two main checks: consistency and local plausibility. These checks are done by Intelligent Transport System Stations. All the messages received through Vehicle-to-Everything are scrutinized through this model. After that, all the messages are evaluated by local detection mechanisms to decide the holistic message's plausibility. This article mainly focuses on the logic behind the proposed Misbehavior Detection Framework providing more security, evaluating various Machine Learning-based models to ensure one best out of all based on quality and computation latency of all models along with the results of various parameters, such as Recall, Precision, F1 Score, Accuracy, Bookmaker Informedness, Markedness, Mathews Correlation Coefficient, Kappa, and achieved the best results.

Abstract Electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is a fast, non-invasive, and safe technique for bioimpedance measurement. In dental research, EIS has been used to detect tooth cracks and caries with higher accuracy than visual and radiographic methods. Recently, a study has been reported on effect of age on impedance measurements for two age groups by employing EIS. The aim of that study was to demonstrate the usefulness of fractional calculus in equivalent circuit modeling. In proposed double dispersion Cole impedance (C-C) models, both resistance and pseudo-capacitance values were found to be significantly different for both age groups. However, in our study, the first time it was found out that proposed models' total pseudo-capacitance values of both young and old dentines can be reduced by 34% and 7.5%, respectively, if recurrent electrical impedance model for n = 2 bifurcations to be used. Secondly, new empirical fractional-order electrical models of human tooth using the optimized Valsa network with EIA standard compliant RC values are reported that provide better understanding of the structure of dentine from resistance and capacitance point of view.
