    Abstract One of the strategies in strengthening the healthcare providers in mitigating the impact of COVID-19 pandemic is through training. Safety and disease unfamiliarity with COVID-19 was the main reason for developing this dedicated specialized training modules in order to address the issue. The training modules were developed based on three strategies that are learning from experience, design suitable dedicated module and identify weakness and vulnerability. The training modules created were donning-doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation of suspected COVID-19 patients which were delivered through immersive life simulation technique. A total of 178 Emergency Healthcare Frontliners (EHFs) were trained. Each module was guided with a checklist that the participants found to be very useful. None of the participants reported developing symptoms of infection after undergoing the face-to-face simulation training even after two weeks of post-training periods. Seven important steps were found to be crucial that contributed to these findings which included room space, participants number per group, COVID-19 screening, taking of temperature, hand sanitization, PPE, and equipment sanitization before and after training. Hands-on training with guided-checklist was found to be very useful to the EHFs in managing an unfamiliar situation of COVID-19. In time-constraint-resource-limited conditions, training modules should be focused on addressing the pressing problem at hand. In conducting a face-to-face training, precautionary safety measures should be strictly adhered to prevent the spread of the disease.

    Abstract Background: Knowledge and psychomotor skills are essential in dental education. The aims were to (1) investigate the correlation between dental students' didactic and psychomotor skills performance in the dental anatomy and preclinical operative dentistry courses and (2) explore the impact of gender on students' performance in both courses.
    Materials and methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed on dental students' (164 students; 72 males and 92 females) dental anatomy and preclinical operative courses scores of the same class over 2 years (2018-2020). Didactic and practical scores were collected. The didactic scores included examinations. Practical scores included tooth wax carving for the dental anatomy course and class II cavity preparations and restorations for the preclinical operative. Student's
    Results: Moderate, positive, and significant correlations were found between didactic scores in both courses and between dental anatomy's didactic and psychomotor skills. A weak, positive, and significant correlation existed between the preclinical operative didactic and psychomotor silks (
    Conclusion: Students' didactic and psychomotor performance correlations in dental anatomy and preclinical operative courses were positive.     Abstract Background: Tacrolimus is a potent immunosuppressant drug commonly used after solid organ transplant surgery. The use of this drug is frequently associated with the emergence of tremors. There is little information on the clinical and physiological characteristics of tacrolimus-induced tremors. Characterizing these tremors is essential as they can promote the development of specific therapies.
    Methods: We describe four patients placed on tacrolimus immunosuppressant therapy following kidney transplant surgery and who developed tremors impacting their daily functional activities. We describe the clinical and physiological characteristics of the tremor and the response generated after a limb cooling test.
    Results: A postural and kinetic tremor mainly involving the distal hands was observed in our cohort. In the accelerometer-based assessment, the tremor amplitude was noted to be mild to moderate, and the frequency was 5-6 Hz. Cooling the forearm and the hand led to a temporary albeit significant reduction of tremor amplitude (p = 0.03). Limb cooling lowered the tremor frequency by 1 Hz in two patients with no change in the other two patients, and the statistical comparison was not significant (p > 0.05).
    Conclusions: Limb cooling may be pursued as a therapeutic option for addressing tacrolimus-induced tremor, as the patients in our cohort benefitted from temporary tremor suppression.

    Abstract Background: The patients who require transfusion are prevalent in the Jazan Province, Saudi Arabia. Therefore, it is essential to know the frequency of blood group antigens in such a population. The Kidd blood group system (JK) has two antithetical antigens, Jka and Jkb. Antibodies to these antigens may result in delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions. The present study investigated the frequencies of Jka and Jkb and the phenotypes among Saudi blood donors living in the Jazan Province. Methods: One hundred and forty-three samples from anonymous Saudi volunteer blood donors in the Jazan Province were serotype to detect Jka and Jkb using gel card technology and determine the phenotypes of the JK blood group system. Results: The prevalence of Jka and Jkb antigens were 90.64% (n = 126) and 69.40% (n = 93), respectively. The JK phenotypes were 34.96% Jk(a + b − ) (n = 51), 12.59% Jk(a − b + ) (n = 18), 52.45% Jk(a + b + ) (n = 75), and 0% Jk(a − b − ). The frequencies of the JK phenotypes in the Jazan population were significantly different from those in the Asian population (P < 0.05). Conclusions: We reported the frequencies of the Jka and Jkb antigens and the distribution of the JK phenotypes in a group of Saudi blood donors in the Jazan Province, Saudi Arabia. The phenotype Jk(a + b + ) was the most common among the study population. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the significance of identifying the frequency of JK antigens and phenotypes in the provinces of Saudi Arabia.

    Abstract Background: Hemophagocyticlymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a spectrum of immune activation which could be genetically determined, or secondary to an underlying illness. Our aim was to present the clinico-genetic aspects of HLH among Egyptian children and to evaluate the patterns of reactivation and outcome with illustrations of overlap manifestations.
    Research designand methods: We retrospectively collected the data of 55 patients with HLH, registered at Ain Shams University Children's Hospital,Cairo, Egypt.

    Abstract Background: Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) provides hemodynamic support to patients with non-compressible truncal hemorrhage. As cardiac output increases due to aortic occlusion (AO), aortic diameter will increase as a function of compliance, potentially causing unintended flow around the balloon.
    Materials and methods: Swine (N = 10) were instrumented to collect proximal mean arterial blood pressure (pMAP), distal MAP (dMAP), balloon pressure (bP), balloon volume (bV), and distal aortic flow (Qaorta). A 7-Fr automated REBOA catheter was positioned in Zone 1. At T0, animals underwent 30% total blood volume hemorrhage over 30 min followed by balloon inflation to complete AO. Automated balloon inflation occurred from T30-T60 when Qaorta was detected. Period of interest was T55-T60, while the balloon actively worked to maintain AO during transfusion of shed blood.
    Results: Median weight of the cohort was 73.75 [IQR:71.58-74.45] kg. During T40-T55 and T55-T60, median pMAP was 88.95 [IQR:76.80-109.92] and 108.13 [IQR:99.13-119.51] mmHg,
    Discussion: In clinical practice, following initial establishment of AO, progressive balloon inflations are required to maintain AO in response to intrinsic and transfusion-mediated increases in cardiac output, blood pressure, and aortic diameter.

    Abstract The Dombrock (DO) blood group system has two primary antigens, Doᵃ and Doᵇ, which can cause delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions. The paucity of specific monospecific antibodies can hamper the typing based on these antigens. Thus, blood group genotyping (BGG) was investigated as a possible solution. Sequence-specific primers were designed to target a single nucleotide polymorphism (rs11276) on the ART4 gene encoding the DO*A and DO*B alleles. Blood samples (n = 150) from randomly selected volunteer donors were used. DNA was extracted and resulting PCR products were purified and sequenced. The allelic frequencies of DO*A and DO*B were (n = 122, 40.67%) and (n = 178, 59.33%), respectively. The distributions of DO genotypes were as follows: DO*A/DO*A (n = 20), 13.33%; DO*B/DO*B (n = 48), 32.00%; and DO*A/DO*B (n = 82), 54.67%. In conclusion, this study reports on the allelic frequencies of DO*A and DO*B of the DO blood group system in Jazan Province, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, this study reports on the prevalence of each genotype, of which DO*A/DO*B was the most abundant. This study contributes significantly to build the current blood donor database in Southwestern Saudi Arabia. Moreover, it may assist in providing safe blood to polytransfused patients and reduce the risk of the red cell alloimmunization.

    Abstract In this work, the residues of green coffee waste were probed for elimination of the toxic anionic dyes Congo red and Eriochrome Black-T taken from the water phase after washing with de-ionised water, and followed by drying at up to 150°C in an air oven for 3 h. In their dried form, the residues of green coffee waste, before and after adsorption of anionic dyes, were characterised by Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), scanning electron spectroscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX). The FT-IR findings showed that the surface of green coffee residues exhibited sufficient oxygen features (O – H, C – O, C = O, C – O – C). The SEM and EDX analyses showed positive adsorption of both the Congo red and Eriochrome Black-T on the green coffee residues. The adsorption output showed that the percentage of removal of CR and EBT had a substantial effect on the pH solution and the maximum removal of both dyes (CR and EBT) obtained at pH-4 and pH-6 respectively. Pseudo-first-order models for CR and pseudo-second-order models for EBT were better suited to the kinetic tests. The EBT adsorption was well defined by the Freundlich isotherm model, while CR adsorption was best suited to the Langmuir isotherm model for green coffee waste residues. CR and EBT have been found to have maximum adsorption capacities of 20.04 and 60.60 mg/g respectively. The EBT and CR adsorption mechanisms mainly involved electrostatic attraction, chemical reactions, pi-pi interactions and hydrophobic force growth. Compared with other crop residues, the adsorbent showed better removal efficiency of dyes, suggesting possible and beneficial use of green coffee waste residues to effectively decontaminate dye-contaminated wastewater.

    Abstract Background: Inherited hemoglobinopathies are common in Jazan Province, Saudi Arabia, and some patients may frequently require a blood transfusion. Therefore, the provision of compatible units using extended phenotypes is necessary to preclude the risk of alloimmunization. This study aimed to investigate the frequencies of the Lewis (LE), Lutheran (LU), and P1 antigens, as well as determine the prevalence of LE and LU phenotypes.
    Methods: This study collected 150 blood samples from Saudi Arabian anonymous volunteering blood donors at Prince Muhammed bin Nasser Hospital in Jazan Province, Saudi Arabia. Serotyping was performed using antigen profile-II based on gel card technology to determine LE, LU, and P1 antigens.
    Results: The prevalence of antigens was as follows: Lea (n = 37, 24.6%), Leb (n = 87, 58%), Lua (n = 6, 4%), Lub (n = 150, 100%), and P1 (n = 120, 80%). Regarding the LE phenotypes, Le (a+b-) was 24.7%, Le (a-b+) was 58%, and Le (a-b-) was 17.3%. The frequencies of only observed LU phenotypes Lu (a-b+) and Lu (a+b+) were 96% and 4%, respectively.
    Conclusions: In summary, this study reports LE, LU, and P1 antigen prevalence. Moreover, LE and LU phenotype frequencies were investigated. This study may help establish a national database of blood group antigens in Jazan Province, Saudi Arabia. Additionally, it may provide better transfusion practice to avoid the alloimmunization risk.
