Abstract The thermodynamic properties for bcc-Fe were predicted by combination of the first-principles calculations, the quasiharmonic approximation, the CALPHAD method and the Weiss molecular field theory. The hybrid method considers the effects of the lattice vibration, electron, intrinsic magnetism and external magnetic fields on the thermodynamic properties at finite temperature. Combined with experimental data, the calculated heat capacity without external magnetic fields was used to verify the validity of the hybrid method. Close to the Fermi level the high electronic density of states leads to a significant electronic contribution to free energy. Near the Curie temperature lattice vibrations dominant the Gibbs free energy. The order of the other three excitation contributions to Gibbs free energy from high to low is: intrinsic magnetism > electron > external magnetic fields. The investigation suggests that all the excitation contributions to Gibbs free energy are not negligible which provides a correct direction for tuning the thermodynamic properties for Fe-based alloy.

Abstract Understanding the nature of the magnetic-field-induced precipitation behaviors represents a major step forward towards unravelling the real nature of interesting phenomena in Fe-based alloys and especially towards solving the key materials problem for the development of fusion energy. Experimental results indicate that the applied high magnetic field effectively promotes the precipitation of M

Abstract The ethanol extract of Stellera chamaejasme roots exhibited significant bioactivity against Peries rapae. In the course of a search for the active compounds, S-(+)-1,5-diphenyl-3-hydroxy-1-pentanone (1) was isolated and this compound has never been found before in S. chamaejasme as far as we known. The structure was established on the basis of various spectral data, including IR, UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, EIMS, and chemical synthesis. Mortality against P. rapae was also determined.

Abstract ‘EnSpray 99’ mineral oil has good efficacy against first instar Pseudaulacaspis pentagona and its residues prevented crawler settlement for approximate 12 days after oil application. Oil application was safe when applied to ‘Hongyang’ kiwifruit to control P. pentagona at the first generation 1st instar (4-18 days after fruit set). 1% oil application during the second generation crawler peak (67-74 days after fruit set) caused 3.6-17.6% speckling damage to the fruit skin, and no damage occurred following oil application 83 days after fruit set. 1% oil application on the first generation 1st instar and later the second generation 1st instar reduced the number of P. pentagona infested fruit and safe to ‘Hongyang’ kiwifruit.
