Abstract The Arctic has experienced dramatic climate changes over recent decades, in which Arctic amplification is the most prominent characteristic with broad influences on climate variability over mid-/low-latitude regions. Previous studies have indicated that Arctic surface warming is simultaneously accompanied by frequent cold winters over Northern Hemisphere mid-latitude continents, forming a "warm Arctic-cold continent" pattern. In addition, other studies suggest a lead-lag seesaw pattern of extreme temperature events with a cold spell over East Asia followed by a warm spell in North America. In this study, we reveal a dipole-like surface air temperature pattern between the Eurasian and North American continents in boreal winter induced by the Arctic sea-ice variability. This surface temperature dipole pattern works on both interannual and decadal time scales. Statistical analyses and atmospheric model experiments demonstrate that the sea-ice retreat over the Barents-Kara Seas can trigger a wavenumber one atmospheric circulation pattern over Northern Hemisphere high-latitudes, with a high-pressure center over north Siberia and a low-pressure center over high-latitude North America. The atmospheric circulation adjustment contributes to a cooling over central Eurasia and a warming in North America through thermal advection. Our finding helps improve the understanding of the relationship between Arctic sea ice and climate variability over Northern Hemisphere mid-latitude continents and has important implications on future climate prediction.

Abstract The method of monodromy is an important tool for computing Virasoro conformal blocks in a two-dimensional Conformal Field Theory (2d CFT) at large central charge and external dimensions. In deriving the form of the monodromy problem, which defines the method, one needs to insert a degenerate operator, usually a level-two operator, into the corresponding correlation function. It can be observed that the choice of which degenerate operator to insert is arbitrary, and they shall reveal the same physical principles underlying the method. In this paper, we exploit this freedom and generalize the method of monodromy by inserting higher-level degenerate operators. We illustrate the case with a level-three operator, and derive the corresponding form of the monodromy problem. We solve the monodromy problem perturbatively and numerically; and check that it agrees with the standard monodromy method, despite the fact that the two versions of the monodromy problem do not seem to be related in any obvious way. The forms corresponding to other higher-level degenerate operators are also discussed. We explain the physical origin of the coincidence and discuss its implication from a mathematical perspective.

Abstract The value of pathological linguistics in children's cognitive development has attracted more and more experts' attention. Based on pathological linguistics, this paper establishes an intervention system for children's cognition-language assessment and cognitive education, guided by a set of fixed procedures, which can quickly collect children's speech data in a short period of time. Based on this evaluation paradigm, the lab collected a large number of speech data of children aged 2-14 in the process of verbal communication. Based on the six linguistic dimensions of phonology, productivity, fluency, grammar, semantics, and logic, the corpus was subdivided into 16 indicators for manual annotation and machine recognition. A cognitive-language assessment database is established for language ability assessment and language barrier screening, and on this basis, the children's language assessment and cognitive education intervention system is completed based on six modules: user, assessment, scale, resources, teaching, and data. Through experimental research, this paper proves that there are differences in the contribution rates of six language dimensions to the screening of children's language disorders, and the top three are fluency (29.6%), pronunciation (25.7%), and productivity (19.3%). By analyzing the contribution rates, the development of children's comprehensive speech ability can be evaluated more accurately. The early intervention education of children's cognition has a great relationship with their comprehensive language ability. The intervention education before the age of 3 is beneficial to the language development of children with disabilities. Children's cognitive education has improved in cognitive performance, cognitive generalization level, emotional cognition, and language expression, indicating that the use of cognitive education system has a good effect, improving the level of children's cognitive education.

Abstract Objective: To identify candidate differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and pathways in diabetic mice brain with metformin/donepezil, network pharmacology analysis was used and verified by experiments.
Materials and methods: We analyzed GSE62013 microarray datasets derived from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database for diabetic brain. Gene Ontology (GO) function and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis were performed using the Database. Subsequently, the protein-protein interaction network (PPI) and Cytoscape were used for visualizing the most significant module and hub genes. Metformin/donepezil were used to treat streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice models. Blood glucose levels and Morris water maze test were measured. The apoptotic rate of diabetic brain tissue was analyzed using Annexin V/propidium iodide double staining. The levels of PI3K and AKT in the mice brain tissues were detected by Western blot.
Results: DEGs included 214 up-regulated genes and 100 down-regulated genes in diabetic brain tissues of mice. The enriched GO functions were multicellular organism development, negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter, and extracellular region. The enriched pathways were PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, Linoleic acid metabolism and Arachidonic acid metabolism. Blood glucose levels and apoptosis were reduced in STZ-induced diabetic mice following metformin/donepezil treatment. Metformin/donepezil could reverse this neurocognitive deficiency. Protein levels of PI3K and AKT were significantly increased in STZ-induced diabetic mice.
Conclusions: Overall, we proposed that 10 genes (Cdc20, Fbxo32, Igtp, Atg7, Fbxo15, Trim37, Psmb8, Ifi47, Asb12, and Asb5) that might be novel hub genes strongly associated with diabetic mice brain. Metformin/donepezil ameliorates STZ-induced brain injury by activating the PI3K/AKT pathway and alleviating apoptosis.

Abstract The SEIR (susceptible-exposed-infected-recovered) model has become a valuable tool for studying infectious disease dynamics and predicting the spread of diseases, particularly concerning the COVID pandemic. However, existing models often oversimplify population characteristics and fail to account for differences in disease sensitivity and social contact rates that can vary significantly among individuals. To address these limitations, we have developed a new multi-feature SEIR model that considers the heterogeneity of health conditions (disease sensitivity) and social activity levels (contact rates) among populations affected by infectious diseases. Our model has been validated using the data of the confirmed COVID cases in Allegheny County (Pennsylvania, USA) and Hamilton County (Ohio, USA). The results demonstrate that our model outperforms traditional SEIR models regarding predictive accuracy. In addition, we have used our multi-feature SEIR model to propose and evaluate different vaccine prioritization strategies tailored to the characteristics of heterogeneous populations. We have formulated optimization problems to determine effective vaccine distribution strategies. We have designed extensive numerical simulations to compare vaccine distribution strategies in different scenarios. Overall, our multi-feature SEIR model enhances the existing models and provides a more accurate picture of disease dynamics. It can help to inform public health interventions during pandemics/epidemics.

Abstract Hypertension can cause hearing loss, but there is no clear definition of the mechanism(s) involved. The study aimed to explore the role of vascular endothelial dysfunction in hypertension with hearing loss. Patients with hypertension were divided into two groups based on hearing loss. Pure tone audiometry (PTA) and endothelial function testing were performed. A total of 216 (432 ears) hypertensive patients were divided into hypertension with hearing loss group (n = 104) and hypertension without hearing loss group (n = 112). The vascular endothelial biomarkers, ET-1 (endothelin-1) and vWF (von Willebrand factor) were significantly higher (

Abstract This paper shows that the empirical distribution of cross-sectional analyst coverage in China's stock markets follows an exponential law in a given month from 2011 to 2020. The findings hold in both the emerging (Shanghai) and the developed market (Hong Kong). Moreover, the unique distribution parameter (i.e., mean) is directly related to the amount of market-wide information. Average analyst coverage exhibits a significant negative predictive power for stock-market uncertainty, highlighting the role of security analysts in diminishing the total uncertainty. The exponential law can be derived from the maximum entropy principle (MEP). When analysts, who are constrained by average ability in generating information (i.e., the first-order moment), strive to maximize the amount of market-wide information, this objective yields the exponential distribution. Contrary to the conventional wisdom that security analysts specialize in the generation of firm-specific information, empirical findings suggest that analysts primarily produce market-wide information for 25 countries. Nevertheless, it remains unclear why cross-sectional analyst coverage reflects market-wide information, this paper provides an entropy-based explanation.
