    Abstract In recent years, political theorists have begun to systematically consider the concept and justification of territorial rights, and advance rival theories of state’s (or nation’s) rights over territory. This article aims to advance our understanding of the challenge facing territorial rights theories, by closely analysing one of the most developed and important theories of territory, viz., the nationalist theory. It argues that nationalist theory, which employs a quasi-Lockean argument for territorial rights, faces a problem of attribution: What value-adding activities can be attributed to a cultural nation, which is viewed as the primary holder of territorial rights by the theory? It proceeds to examine three approaches to solve the problem of attribution – but argues that all of them fail. In the concluding section, the paper explores the potential implications of this largely critical argument for all attempts to develop a coherent and plausible normative theory of territory.

    Abstract The interdisciplinary studies between neuroscience and information science have greatly promoted the development of these two fields. The achievements of these studies can help humans understand the essence of biological systems, provide computational platforms for biological experiments, and improve the intelligence and performance of the algorithms in information science. This research topic is focused on the computational modeling of visual cognition, body sense, motor control and their integrations. Firstly, the modeling and simulation of vision and body sense are achieved by 1) understanding neural mechanism underlying sensory perception and cognition, and 2) mimicking accordingly the structures and mechanisms of their signal propagation pathways. The achievement of this procedure could provide neural findings for better encoding and decoding visual and somatosensory perception of humans, and help robots or systems build humanoid robust vision, body sensing, and various emotions. Secondly, the modeling and simulation of the motor system of the primate are achieved by mimicking the coordination of bones, muscles and joints and the control mechanisms of the neural system in the brain and spinal cord. This procedure could help robots achieve fast, robust and accurate manipulations and be used for safe human-computer interaction. Finally, by integrating them, more complete and intelligent systems/robots could be built to accomplish various tasks self-adaptively and automatically

    Abstract Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) refers to depression that persists even after the patient has undergone adequate trials of two or more antidepressants at appropriate doses and duration. While there may be controversy around this definition, it reflects the real-world clinical situation where drug therapy is often the primary treatment strategy for major depressive disorder. It's important to note that when a patient is diagnosed with TRD, a comprehensive evaluation of their psychosocial aspects should be carried out. Appropriate psychosocial interventions should also be provided to address the patient's needs. Various psychotherapy models have been proven effective in treating TRD, but not all of them have undergone empirical testing. As a result, some psychotherapy models may be underestimated in treating TRD. Clinicians should consult reference materials and assess the patient's psychosocial aspects to select the most appropriate psychotherapy model for TRD patients. Collaboration with psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists can also provide valuable input in the decision-making process. This ensures that TRD patients receive comprehensive and effective care.

    Abstract Background: Teacher-student interactions and proximity have been shown influential in second/foreign (L2) education. However, the role of L2 teachers' immediacy behaviors on students' willingness to communicate (WTC) and academic engagement remains relatively unexamined in the context of English as a foreign language (EFL).
    Purpose: This study intended to examine the association among EFL teachers' immediacy behaviors and students' WTC and engagement.
    Methods: In this quantitative study, three online questionnaires were completed by 400 Chinese EFL students in different universities out of which 364 were valid.
    Results: The results of statistical analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) indicated that teachers' immediacy behaviors (verbal, nonverbal) had a highly significant influence on EFL students' WTC (ß=0.89, p = .000) and academic engagement (ß=0.71, p = .000). It was also revealed that teachers' immediacy could predict 89% and 71% of variances in students' WTC academic engagement, respectively.
    Conclusions: Based on the results, I could be concluded that EFL teachers' interpersonal communication abilities (e.g., immediacy) foster the establishment and growth of other positive outcomes among learners.
    Implications: The study presents some conclusions and practical implications for EFL teachers, materials developers, and trainers to integrate the nonverbal cues of L2 communication into their practices. Such practices have the potential to enhance students' willingness to communicate (WTC) and improve academic engagement.

    Abstract To investigate the effect of the sintering temperature on the microstructure characteristics of porous NiTi alloys, two types of porous NiTi alloys with equal atomic ratios were fabricated via elemental powder sintering at 950 °C and 1000 °C. Afterwards, optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were collectively applied to investigate the pore characteristics and microstructure of the fabricated porous NiTi alloy. The results show that when the sintering temperature increases from 950 °C to 1000 °C, the average pore size increases from 36.00 μm to 181.65 μm, owing to the integration of these newly formed small pores into these pre-existing large-sized pores. The measured density increases from 2.556 g/cm

    Abstract Background: This study aims to investigate the role of empathy in fostering emotional resilience and the impact of social activity on adolescents' mental health.

    Conclusion: For adolescents, (1) greater emotional resilience is associated with higher levels of empathy; (2) improving empathy can indirectly enhance their emotional resilience by reducing their depression level; (3) the relationship between empathy ability and depression is modulated by social activity, and the predictive effect of empathy on depression is reduced when adolescents have high social activity levels; and (4) the relationship between empathy and self-efficacy is also modulated by social activity, and the predictive effect of empathy on self-efficacy is enhanced when adolescents have higher levels of social activity.

    Abstract Purpose: Trauma, particularly extremity trauma, poses a considerable challenge in healthcare, especially among young adults. Given the severity of patient pain and the risks associated with excessive opioid use, managing acute pain in trauma centers is inherently complex. This study aims to investigate the application and benefits of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for early pain management in patients with extremity trauma positioned supine.
    Methods: A comprehensive literature review was conducted to assess the effectiveness and advantages of ultrasound-guided peripheral nerve blocks in the acute pain management of extremity trauma patients in the supine position. Special emphasis was placed on evaluating the selection criteria, indications, contraindications, adverse reactions, and potential complications associated with these nerve block techniques.
    Results: Ultrasound-guided nerve blocks represent a safer and more precise option for managing pain in extremity trauma patients placed in the supine position. These techniques offer significant advantages in terms of reducing healthcare expenses, diminishing reliance on opioid medications, and mitigating opioid-related complications. Nonetheless, challenges may arise due to the necessity for patient cooperation during specific nerve block procedures.
    Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided nerve blocks present a promising avenue for early pain management in extremity trauma patients positioned supinely. Their implementation can lead to improved patient outcomes by alleviating pain severity, reducing opioid consumption, and cutting down healthcare costs. Further research and clinical integration of these techniques is imperative to enhance pain management protocols in trauma centers.

    Abstract Abstract The genus Eristalinus is widely distributed globally. Four complete mitochondrial genomes (i.e., mitogenomes) of Eristalinus were sequenced and analyzed in this study: Eristalinus viridis (Coquillett, 1898), E. quinquestriatus (Fabricius, 1781), E. tarsalis (Macquart, 1855), and E. sp. Within these four sequenced mitogenomes, most protein-coding genes (ND2, CO1, COX2, COX3, ND3, ND5, ND4, ND4L, ND6, and Cytb) began with a typical ATN (T/C/G/A) start codon and ended with a stop codon TAA or incomplete T, whereas ND1 began with the start codon TTG. ND3 ended with TAG. The secondary tRNA structure was that of a typical cloverleaf, and only the tRNA-Ser1 lacked a DHU arm. Three and five domains appeared in the 12S and 16S rRNA secondary structures, respectively. The phylogenetic relationships among the four Eristalinus species combined with the published mitogenomes of Syrphidae were reconstructed using the maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference methods, which support the monophyly of the subfamily Syrphinae but do not support that of the subfamily Eristalinae. Of note, Eristalini and Syrphini are monophyletic groups. The mitogenomes of E. viridis, E. quinquestriatus, E. sp., and E. tarsalis are useful for determining the phylogenetic relationships and evolution of Syrphidae.

    Abstract In this study, 18 mitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) of Syrphidae were sequenced. These mitogenomes ranged from 15,648 to 16,405 bp and contained 37 genes that were similar to those from other Syrphidae species. Most protein-coding genes (PCGs) started with a standard ATN codon and ended with TAA/G. All transfer RNAs (tRNAs) could be folded into the cloverleaf secondary structure except tRNA-Ser (AGN), which lacks a dihydrouridine arm. The secondary structures of ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs) were predicted. Six domains (III is absent in arthropods) and 44 helices were included in the 16S rRNA, and three domains and 24 helices were included in the 12S rRNA. We found three conserved fragments in all syrphid mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analyses were performed based on the nucleotide data of 13 PCGs and two rRNAs from 76 Muscomorpha and three outgroup species. In results the paraphyly of Aschiza and Schizophora were supported, the Acalyptratae was also paraphyletic but the relationships of its superfamilies were difficult to determine, the monophyly of Calyptratea was supported with the relationships of Oestroidea and Muscoidea need to be further reconsidered. Within Syrphidae the monophyly of family level was supported, the Syrphinae were clustered into one branch, while the paraphyly of Eristalinae was still well supported.
