Abstract This article examines the visions of citizens' ideal practices regarding technoscientific affairs in a democratic society, namely "imaginaries of model citizens," that underlie three science and public initiatives: public understanding of science, public engagement in science, and citizen science. While imaginaries of citizens are performative and necessary to these initiatives, they are often relegated to the background. I argue that such imaginaries are the result of a complex of perceptions on the nature of science, the role of democracy in scientific activities, and the form of "democratizing" science. The imaginary of model citizens in public understanding of science is of literate citizens who should know science sufficiently, use it in daily life, and support science; in public engagement in science, the model citizen is a responsible one who should engage in the governance of technoscientific issues; and in citizen science, a contributive one who should partake in and enjoy creating scientific knowledge.

Abstract Resistance training is an important means to improve human function and health level, and tensile training, as an important form, has significant effects on enhancing muscle strength, improving body flexibility, and promoting body coordination. Tensile training can provide external resistance through the use of resistance trainers, allowing muscle groups to work under load. This load stimulation can gradually promote muscle adaptation and enhancement. This article took conjugated polymer materials as the research object. By analyzing and testing their dynamic mechanical properties, the mechanical response characteristics of polyacetylene materials were analyzed using strain rate functions. The mechanical properties and deformation behavior of polyacetylene materials under different conditions were evaluated. It was found that conjugated polymer materials had good strength, elasticity, and wear resistance, making them suitable for making resistance trainers. The experimental results indicated that this study used a conjugated polymer material resistance trainer to train the testing personnel for a period of 3 months. During this training period, the tester's endurance increased by 21%-29%, flexibility increased by 17%-25%, and explosive power increased by 24%-31%. The research results indicated that conjugated polymer materials had good plasticity and adjustability in the preparation of resistance training devices. Resistance devices of different shapes, sizes, and intensities can be prepared according to the needs and purposes of trainers, providing diverse and personalized choices for daily physical tensile training. The conjugated polymer material resistance trainer has significant effects and can effectively improve the physical fitness of testers. In addition, conjugated polymer materials exhibit excellent tensile performance and durability in resistance training, which can effectively meet the needs and requirements of trainers.

Abstract Semicrystalline polymer materials are commonly strong yet tough after processed through fiber spinning, film stretching (or blowing), and plastic molding (or foaming), which are fundamentally related with strain-induced crystallization. This paper provides a personal perspective on thermodynamics and kinetics aspects of strain-induced polymer crystallization, mainly based on the author's recent research experience. The thermodynamic studies include homopolymers, random copolymers, solution polymers, and blend polymers. The kinetic studies cover three sequential crystallization stages, i.e., crystal nucleation, crystal growth, and postgrowth. The thermodynamic driving forces join with the kinetic barriers to determine the crystal nucleation mechanisms and the structure evolution at the molecular level, which yield unique polymer crystal morphologies from lamellar crystals to shish-kebab crystals and eventually fibril crystals. The resulting semicrystalline structures were discussed with their implications for the mechanical properties of products. Some future studies were briefly proposed.

Abstract Although the issue of moral identity and morality is under investigation for the last many years, there is still a need to investigate its role in how it promotes behavior. This study tends to extend this string of literature and attempted to investigate the mediating role of moral reasoning among the elements of moral culture, prosocial behavior, and psychological wellbeing. For this purpose, college students were selected as participants in this study. For this purpose, a two-wave strategy was followed to collect data. In the first wave of questionnaire distribution, 600 college students were contacted to complete the response. A hidden secret code was allotted to each questionnaire to trace the respondent for the second wave. From the distributed 600 questionnaires, 507 questionnaires were received back. At this stage, demographic characteristics and questions related to both the independent variables were asked from the respondents. While in the next wave, 448 questionnaires were received back from the redistributed questionnaires in the second wave. After discarding the incomplete and partially filled questionnaires (17 questionnaires) there were left 431 useable responses. These responses were used to run the tests through structural equation modeling (SEM) through assessment of measurement and structural model. Results indicate that symbolization promotes positive changes in the psychological wellbeing of the students and prosocial behavior of the college students. Moreover, internalization can promote psychological wellbeing. However, the impact of internalization on the prosocial behavior of college students has not been found statistically significant. Moreover, it can be safely concluded that moral reasoning has the potency to mediate the relationship of symbolization and psychological wellbeing as well as prosocial behavior. Moral reasoning also mediates the relationship between internalization and psychological well-being and prosocial behavior.

Abstract Face recognition in complex scenes suffers severe challenges coming from perturbations such as pose deformation, ill illumination, partial occlusion. Some methods utilize depth estimation to obtain depth corresponding to RGB to improve the accuracy of face recognition. However, the depth generated by them suffer from image blur, which introduces noise in subsequent RGB-D face recognition tasks. In addition, existing RGB-D face recognition methods are unable to fully extract complementary features. In this paper, we propose a fine-grained facial depth generation network and an improved multimodal complementary feature learning network. Extensive experiments on the Lock3DFace dataset and the IIIT-D dataset show that the proposed FFDGNet and I MCFLNet can improve the accuracy of RGB-D face recognition while achieving the state-of-the-art performance.

Abstract This study investigated how different feedback sources, such as teacher and peer correction, affect students learning English as a foreign language (EFL) regarding speaking accuracy, fluency, and academic passion. The effects of online and face-to-face instruction and peer and teacher corrections were investigated in this study using a factorial design. Convenience sampling was used to choose six intact classes from Jinzhong University's Department of Foreign Languages. Academic passion and speaking tests were used before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed using ANOVA tests. The findings showed that peer correction outperformed teacher correction in improving speaking accuracy, fluency, and academic passion. Additionally, peer correction was more beneficial than receiving no correction at all. Furthermore, teacher correction positively influenced speaking accuracy compared to the non-correction group. The findings also demonstrated that feedback mechanisms have a significant overall impact on speaking accuracy and fluency independent of particular training and correction circumstances. The interaction between instruction and correction was not statistically significant. These findings highlight the crucial role that correction mechanisms play in enhancing speaking accuracy and naturalness, which has important ramifications for language teachers and curriculum designers.
