    Abstract Thermoset powder coatings exhibit distinctive characteristics such as remarkable hardness and exceptional resistance to corrosion. In contrast to conventional paints, powder coatings are environmentally friendly due to the absence of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). However, their irreversible cross-linking structures limit their chain segment mobility, preventing polymers from autonomously repairing cracks. Dynamic cross-linking networks have garnered attention for their remarkable self-healing capabilities, facilitated by rapid internal bond exchange. Herein, we introduce an innovative method for synthesizing thermoset epoxy containing boronic ester moieties which could prolong the life of the powder coating. The epoxy resin system relies on the incorporation of two curing agents: one featuring small-molecule diamines with boronic bonds and the other a modified polyurethane prepolymer. A state of equilibrium in mechanical properties was achieved via precise manipulation of the proportions of these agents, with the epoxy composite exhibiting a fracture stress of 67.95 MPa while maintaining a stable glass transition temperature (Tg) of 51.39 °C. This imparts remarkable self-healing ability to the coating surface, capable of returning to its original state even after undergoing 1000 cycles of rubbing (using 1200-grit abrasive paper). Furthermore, the introduction of carbon nanotube nanoparticles enabled non-contact sequential self-healing. Subsequently, we introduce this method into powder coatings of different materials. Therefore, this work provides a strategy to develop functional interior decoration and ensure its potential for broad-ranging applications, such as aerospace, transportation, and other fields.

    Abstract Many patients with severe mental illness (SMI) relapsed and deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as they experienced medication interruption. This study aimed to investigate factors affecting medication interruption in patients with SMI during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 2,077 patients with SMI participated in an online survey on medication interruption during the COVID-19 outbreak. The questionnaire comprised six parts: basic demographic information, COVID-19 exposure, state of disease, medication compliance before COVID-19, medication interruption during COVID-19, and the specific impact and needs. A total of 2,017 valid questionnaires were collected. Nearly 50% of patients with SMI have been affected to varying degrees of life expectancy and treatment. Among them, 74 patients stopped taking medicines for more than 14 days without a prescription. Logistic regression analysis showed that cohabitant exposure [OR = 26.629; 95% CI (3.293–215.323), p = 0.002], medication partial compliance and non-compliance pre-COVID-19 [OR = 11.109; 95% CI (6.093–20.251), p < 0.001; OR = 20.115; 95% CI (10.490–38.571), p < 0.001], and disease status [OR = 0.326; 95% CI (0.188–0.564), p < 0.001] were related to medication interruption. More than 50% of the patients wanted help in taking medications, follow-up, and receiving more financial support and protective materials. We found that the daily lives of patients with SMI were much more susceptible to impact during the pandemic. Patients with a history of partial or non-medication compliance before COVID-19 and an unstable disease state are more easily affected by pandemics and epidemics and need extra attention should similar large-scale outbreaks occur in the future.

    Abstract Abstract With the rapid development of multimedia technology and the massive accumulation of user data, a huge amount of data is rapidly generated and shared over the network, while the problems of inappropriate data access and abuse persist. Reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDHEI) is a privacy-preserving method that embeds protected data in an encrypted domain and accurately extracts the embedded data without affecting the original content. However, the amount of embedded data has been one of the major limitations in the performance and application of RDHEI. Currently, the main approaches to improve the capacity of RDHEI are either to increase the overall capacity or to reduce the length of the auxiliary information. In this paper, we propose a novel RDHEI scheme based on multi-prediction and adaptive Huffman encoding. To increase the overall capacity, we propose a multi-prediction, called MED+GAP predictor, to generate the label map data of non-reference pixels prior to image encryption. Then, an adaptive Huffman coding is designed to compress the generated labels in order to reduce the embedding length of the auxiliary information used for the extraction and recovery. Experiments show that the proposed method with MED+GAP predictor and adaptive Huffman coding improves 0.052 bpp, 0.023 bpp, and 0.047 bpp on average over the other state-of-the-art methods on the BOSSBase, BOWS-2, and UCID datasets, respectively, while maintaining security and reversibility.

    Abstract This work reports on the use of an acrylamide mediated polymerized complexing method for the preparation of metal/N-doped carbon (metal = Ag, Cu, Ni) nanocatalysts and their excellent catalytic behavior toward hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol. Acrylamide can be used as a single source of carbon and nitrogen. High catalytic activity parameter, Km (first order reaction) of 471.6, 327.2 and 72.4 s−1·g−1 (per mass of metal) was estimated for Ag/N-doped carbon (Ag/NC), Cu/NC and Ni/NC nanocatalysts, for the hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol (molar ratio of NaBH4:4-nitrophenol = 100:1). These activity results provided new insight into the design and catalytic applications of metal/NC nanomaterials.

    Abstract Double random-phase encoding- (DRPE-) based compressive sensing (CS) systems support image authentication for noisy images. When extending such systems to resource-constrained applications, how to ensure the authentication strength for noisy images becomes challenging. To tackle the issue, an efficient and secure image authentication scheme is presented. The phase information of the plain image is generated using DRPE and quantized into a binary image as the authentication information. Meanwhile, a sparser error matrix generated by the same plain image and vector quantization (VQ) image works as the input of CS. The authentication information and VQ indexes are self-hidden into the quantized measurements to construct the combined image. Then, it is permutated and diffused with the chaotic sequences generated from a modified Henon map. After decryption at the receiver side, the verifier can implement the blind authentication between the noisy decoded image and the reconstructed image. Supported by the detailed numerical simulations and theoretical analyses, the DRPE-CSVQ exhibits more powerful compression and authentication capability than its counterpart.

    Abstract Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the leading cause of death in men and has poor therapeutic outcomes. Methods: A novel endostatin 33 peptide was synthesized by adding a specific QRD sequence on the basis of the endostatin 30 peptide (PEP06) with antitumor activity. Then, bioinformatic analysis and subsequent experiments were performed to validate the antitumor function of this endostatin 33 peptide. Results: We found that the 33 polypeptides significantly inhibited growth, invasion and metastasis and promoted the apoptosis of PCa in vivo or vitro, which is more significant than PEP06 under the same conditions. According to 489 cases from the TCGA data portal, the α6β1 high expression group was closely associated with the poor prognosis (Gleason score, pathological N stage, etc.) of PCa and was mainly enriched in the PI3K-Akt pathway. Subsequently, we demonstrated that endostatin 33 peptide can down-regulate the PI3K-Akt pathway via the targeted inhibition of α6β1, thereby inhibiting the epithelial–mesenchymal transition and matrix metalloproteinase in C42 cell lines. Conclusion: The endostatin 33 peptide can exert antitumor effects by inhibiting the PI3K-Akt pathway, especially in tumors with a high expression of the integrin α6β1 subtype, such as prostate cancer. Therefore, our study will provide a new method and theoretical basis for the treatment of prostate cancer.

    Abstract In order to meet the requirement of secure image communication in a resource-constrained network environment, a novel lightweight chaotic image encryption scheme based on permutation and diffusion has been proposed. It was claimed that this scheme can resist differential attacks, statistical attacks, etc. However, the original encryption scheme is found to be vulnerable and insecure to chosen-plaintext attack (CPA). In this paper, the original encryption scheme is analyzed comprehensively and attacked successfully. Only by choosing a full zero image as the chosen-plaintext of the diffusion phase, the encrypted image can be restored into permutation-only phase, and by applying the other chosen images as the chosen-plaintexts of the permutation phase, the map matrix which is equivalent to the secret key of the permutation phase can be further revealed. Experiments and analysis verify the feasibility of our proposed attack strategy.

    Abstract Oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a prevalent malignancy with high morbidity and mortality as a result of early metastasis and poor prognosis. Metastasis is a multistep process, involving various signalling pathways. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of covalently closed noncoding RNAs, the aberrant expression of which is reported to be involved in several biological events, including cell transformation, proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis and metastasis. Several studies have reported interactions between circRNAs and metastasis‐associated signalling pathways. The abundance, stability and highly specific expression of candidate circRNAs make them potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets in OSCC. In this review article, we comprehensively describe metastasis‐related circRNAs and their interactions with epithelial–mesenchymal transition‐associated molecules. We also describe the molecular mechanisms and clinical relevance of circRNAs in OSCC progression and metastasis.

    Abstract The histogram watermark, which performs watermark embedding by slightly modifying the histogram of the original image, has been a hot research topic in information hiding technology due to the superiority of its pixel modification during the watermark embedding process, which is independent of the pixel position. This property makes the histogram-based watermark strong resistant to geometric attacks, such as cropping attack, crossed attack, rotation attack, etc. In this paper, we propose a large capacity histogram-based robust watermarking algorithm based on three consecutive bins for the first time. In our scheme, we divide the shape of three consecutive bins into eight cases. According to these cases, we embed Information Number 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7, respectively. The embedded information capacity reaches one bit per bin (bpb), and the amount of embedded information is equal to 200% of the previous existing algorithms. Experimental results show that the new algorithm not only has a large capacity of embedding information, but also has strong robustness to geometric attacks, as well as common image processing operations.

    Abstract Background: Hippocampal avoidant whole brain radiotherapy (HA-WBRT) is the standard of care for patients needing WBRT for brain metastases. This study, using existing data from NRG Oncology CC001 including baseline tumor characteristics and patient-reported MD Anderson Symptom Inventory-Brain Tumor (MDASI-BT) scores, sought to identify subgroups of patients that demonstrate differential neuroprotective treatment response to HA-WBRT.
    Methods: An exploratory analysis of NRG CC001, a phase 3 trial in which 518 patients were randomly assigned to WBRT plus memantine or HA-WBRT plus memantine, was performed. Rates of neurocognitive function failure (NCFF) were estimated between subgroups and stratified by arm. Covariate and subgroup interaction with differential treatment response were calculated.
    Results: The benefit of HA-WBRT on decreasing NCFF was seen in patients living ≥ 4 months (HR 0.75, 95% CI: 0.58-0.97, P = .03), whereas patients living < 4 months derived no significant neurocognitive benefit. A significant association between baseline MDASI-BT cognitive factor and treatment response (interaction P = .03) was identified. Patients with lower MDASI-BT scores (less patient-reported cognitive impairment) derived significantly greater benefit (HR = 0.64, 95% CI: 0.48-0.85, P = .002) compared to those with highest MDASI-BT scores (HR = 1.24, 95% CI: 0.76-2.04, P = .39). Tumor histology also had a significant interaction (P = .01) with treatment response. Primary lung histology patients derived cognitive failure risk reduction (HR = 0.58, 95% CI: 0.43-0.77, P = .0007) from HA-WBRT, in contrast to nonlung primary histology patients (HR = 1.15, 95% CI: 0.78-1.50, P = .48).
    Conclusions: Differential neuroprotective response to HA-WBRT was identified in this analysis. Patients surviving ≥ 4 months derived benefit from HA-WBRT. There is evidence of heterogeneity of treatment effect for patients with less severe patient-reported cognitive impairment at baseline and those with primary lung histology.
