Abstract Stress is an nonspecific adaptive response to endogenous or exogenous stimuli, which is commonly applied by organisms to maintain their internal homeostasis and normal physiological functions. When the extent of stress response surpasses the threshold that the organism can adjust to, a variety of physiological or psychological diseases can be induced by stress response. Stress medicine focuses on investigating the mechanisms underlying the development and progression of the diseases induced by stress response, aiming to find ways to prevent and treat stress-related diseases. Here, we will start with an introduction of stress response, then review the recent advances of stress medicine by discussing the latest research advances in the regulatory mechanisms and biological functions of stress response under various physiological or pathological conditions.

Abstract High throughput profiling of multiomics data provides a valuable resource to better understand the complex human disease such as cancer and to potentially uncover new subtypes. Integrative clustering has emerged as a powerful unsupervised learning framework for subtype discovery. In this paper, we propose an efficient weighted integrative clustering called intCC by combining ensemble method, consensus clustering and kernel learning integrative clustering. We illustrate that intCC can accurately uncover the latent cluster structures via extensive simulation studies and a case study on the TCGA pan cancer datasets. An R package intCC implementing our proposed method is available at https://github.com/candsj/intCC.

Abstract Therapy resistance in gastric cancer poses ongoing challenges, necessitating the identification of ferroptosis-related genes linked to overall survival for potential therapeutic insights. The purpose of the study was to identify ferroptosis-related genes contributing to therapy resistance in gastric cancer and explore their associations with overall survival. Differentially expressed ferroptosis-related genes were identified in therapy-resistant versus therapy-responsive gastric cancer patients. Hub genes were selected from these genes. Enrichment analysis focused on oxidative stress and ROS metabolism. Validation was conducted in a TCGA stomach adenocarcinoma dataset. A hub gene-based risk model (DUSP1/TNF/NOX4/LONP1) was constructed and assessed for overall survival prediction. Associations with the tumor immune microenvironment were examined using the ESTIMATE algorithm and correlation analysis. Ten hub genes were identified, enriched in oxidative stress and ROS metabolism. Validation confirmed their aberrant expressions in the TCGA dataset. The hub gene-based risk model effectively predicted overall survival. High G6PD/TNF expression and low NOX4/SREBF1/MAPK3/DUSP1/KRAS/SIRT3/LONP1 expression correlated with stromal and immune scores. KRAS/TNF/MAPK3 expression positively correlated with immune-related SREBF1/NOX4 expression. DUSP1/NOX4/SREBF1/TNF/KRAS expression was associated with immune cell infiltration. The hub gene-based risk model (DUSP1/TNF/NOX4/LONP1) shows promise as an overall survival predictor in gastric cancer. Ferroptosis-related hub genes represent potential therapeutic targets for overcoming therapy resistance in gastric cancer treatment.

Abstract DksA is a proteobacterial regulator that binds directly to the secondary channel of RNA polymerase with (p)ppGpp and is responsible for various bacterial physiological activities. While (p)ppGpp is known to be involved in the regulation and response of fatty acid metabolism pathways in many foodborne pathogens, the role of DksA in this process has yet to be clarified. This study aimed to characterize the function of DksA on fatty acid metabolism and cell membrane structure in

Abstract Video Text Spotting (VTS) is a fundamental visual task that aims to predict the trajectories and content of texts in a video. Previous works usually conduct local associations and apply IoU-based distance and complex post-processing procedures to boost performance, ignoring the abundant temporal information and the morphological characteristics in VTS. In this paper, we propose a novel Global Video Text Spotting Transformer GloTSFormer to model the tracking problem as global associations and utilize the Gaussian Wasserstein distance to guide the morphological correlation between frames. Our main contributions can be summarized as three folds. 1). We propose a Transformer-based global tracking method GloTSFormer for VTS and associate multiple frames simultaneously. 2). We introduce a Wasserstein distance-based method to conduct positional associations between frames. 3). We conduct extensive experiments on public datasets. On the ICDAR2015 video dataset, GloTSFormer achieves 56.0 MOTA with 4.6 absolute improvement compared with the previous SOTA method and outperforms the previous Transformer-based method by a significant 8.3 MOTA.
