Abstract Boredom is an affective experience that can involve pervasive feelings of meaninglessness, emptiness, restlessness, frustration, weariness and indifference, as well as the slowing down of time. An increasing focus of research in many disciplines, interest in boredom has been intensified by the recent Covid-19 pandemic, where social distancing measures have induced both a widespread loss of meaning and a significant disturbance of temporal experience. This article explores the philosophical significance of this aversive experience of 'pandemic boredom.' Using Heidegger's work as a unique vantage point, this article draws on survey data collected by researchers in an ongoing project titled 'Experiences of Social Distancing During the Covid-19 Pandemic' to give an original phenomenological interpretation of the meaninglessness and monotony of pandemic boredom. On a Heideggerian interpretation, pandemic boredom involves either a situative confrontation with relative meaninglessness that upholds our absorption in the everyday world, or an existential confrontation with absolute meaninglessness that forces us to take up the question of our existence. Arguing that boredom during the pandemic makes this distinction difficult to sustain, I consider some of the ways in which pandemic boredom might be seen to expose and then exceed the distinctive methodological limitations of Heidegger's philosophical interpretation of boredom.

Abstract Introduction: The experience of disconnection is common in first-person accounts of grief. One way in which this feeling of estrangement can manifest is through the splintering apart of the time of the mourner and the time of the world. Supplementing and extending Thomas Fuchs' influential idea of temporal desynchronization, my aim in this article is to give an account of the heterogeneous ways in which grief can disturb time.
Method: I organize these manifold experiences of temporal disruption according to a method of "depth analysis": a phenomenological interpretation of temporal desynchronization that tracks the increasing disconnect between the mourner and the world as it manifests in time. In so doing, I draw on a wide range of descriptive first-person responses to the question "Has your experience of time changed in any way?" - included as part of an online questionnaire on the emotional experience of grief conducted recently with colleagues at the University of York. I then stratify these according to a mild, moderate, and profound level of disruption.
Results: Before setting out the results of this analysis, I give a background account of Fuchs' interpretation of temporal desynchronization in phenomenological psychopathology more generally and in grief specifically. In my results, I then supplement and extend his interpretation by setting out my phenomenological depth analysis of the increasing disconnect between the time of the mourner and the time of the world, as demonstrated by the questionnaire data. As I argue, such a fine-grained account is an important step in understanding the way time can shape the meaning and significance of different grief experiences. Following this, in my discussion, I demonstrate how a depth approach might be helpful in differentiating between temporal disturbances in a range of affective disorders and give an illustrative comparison of grief and depression.
Conclusion: In conclusion, I reflect briefly on what grief might reveal about the depth and complexity of temporal experience itself. In so doing, I consider how the radical disruptions to time in grief might transform the mourner's experience of time irreversibly but in a way that enables a renewed connection to both their deceased loved one and the world from which they have become estranged.

Abstract Despite progress in computer automated solutions, constitutional isomer verification by NMR using one- and two-dimensional data sets is still, in the main, a manual, user-intensive activity that is challenging for a number of reasons. These include the problem of simultaneously keeping track of the information from a number of separate NMR experiments and the difficulty of another researcher subsequently verifying the assignments made without having to independently repeat the whole analysis. This paper describes a graphical interactive approach that overcomes some of these problems. By using concepts used to visualise graph networks, we have been able to represent the NMR data in a manner that highlights directly the link between the different NMR experiments and the molecule of interest. Furthermore, by making the graph networks interactive, a user can easily validate and correct the assignment and understand the decisions made in arriving at the solution. We have developed a usable proof-of-concept computer program, 'simpleNMR', written in Python to illustrate the ideas and approach.

Abstract The development of high-quality clinicians takes place through immersion in clinical practice facilitated by educational supervisors with appropriate capabilities and organisational support to undertake the role. Learners give feedback on the quality of their learning experience on placement, which provides insights about the quality of clinical care received by patients. In this article, we explore the role of educational leaders in engaging with learner feedback about patient care, the challenges and tensions this generates, and the path through resolution. We use a lived example to showcase the issues raised and offer reflections on the challenges faced.

Abstract Purpose: Local anesthetic systemic toxicity (LAST) is a low-frequency, high-risk event that can occur within minutes of a patient receiving a local anesthetic. The goals of this project were to standardize LAST care management across an academic medical center and sustain an improvement in nurses' knowledge of how to recognize signs and symptoms of LAST and how to competently manage a LAST scenario.
Design: We used a quantitative design to accomplish the goals of the project.
Methods: Our interdisciplinary team developed a clinical practice guideline based on the LAST Checklist published by the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, and used a simulation scaffolded by multimodal education and system changes to ensure sustained knowledge. We measured improvement using a graded knowledge assessment as well as qualitative feedback.
Findings: Scores on the assessment increased from 4.76 to 6.34 (out of seven points) following the intervention and remained significantly higher than the baseline 9 months after the educational intervention (9-month score = 6.19, t = 2.99, P = .004). Nurses reported feeling more confident and knowledgeable following the intervention and requested to have regular sessions of the simulation. To sustain improvements, we developed a computer-based learning module. The module and simulation were integrated into nursing orientation and an annual competency.
Conclusions: While standardizing LAST care in accordance with evidence-based guidance is critical to patient safety due to its infrequent occurrence, nurses should consider implementing simulation supplemented with multimodal education and system changes to ensure sustained knowledge.

Abstract Freezing of gait (FOG) is a common and disabling symptom in people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD). Although cognition is thought to be worse in PwPD who freeze, a comprehensive analysis of this relationship will inform future research and clinical care. This systematic review and meta-analysis compared cognition between PwPD who do and do not exhibit FOG across a range of cognitive domains and assessed the impact of disease severity and medication status on this relationship. 145 papers (n = 9010 participants) were included in the analysis, with 144 and 138 articles meeting the criteria to assess moderating effects of disease severity and medication status, respectively. PwPD who freeze exhibited worse cognition than PwPD without FOG across global cognition, executive function/attention, language, memory, and visuospatial domains. Greater disease severity and "ON" levodopa medication status moderated the FOG status-cognition relationship in global cognitive performance but not in other cognitive domains. This meta-analysis confirmed that cognition is worse in PwPD with FOG and highlights the importance of disease severity and medication status in this relationship.
