    Abstract Cooperation is the foundation of society and has been the subject of numerous studies over the past three decades. However, the mechanisms underlying the spread of cooperation within a group are not yet fully comprehended. We analyze cooperation in multiplex networks, a model that has recently gained attention for successfully capturing certain aspects of human social connections. Previous studies on the evolution of cooperation in multiplex networks have shown that cooperative behavior is promoted when the two key processes in evolution, interaction and strategy replacement, are performed with the same partner as much as possible, that is, symmetrically, in a variety of network structures. We focus on a particular type of symmetry, namely, symmetry in the scope of communication, to investigate whether cooperation is promoted or hindered when interactions and strategy replacements have different scopes. Through multiagent simulations, we found some cases where asymmetry can promote cooperation, contrasting with previous studies. These results hint toward the potential effectiveness of not only symmetrical but also asymmetrical approaches in fostering cooperation within particular groups under certain social conditions.

    Abstract Public comments are an important opinion for civic when the government establishes rules. However, recent AI can easily generate large quantities of disinformation, including fake public comments. We attempted to distinguish between human public comments and ChatGPT-generated public comments (including ChatGPT emulated that of humans) using Japanese stylometric analysis. Study 1 conducted multidimensional scaling (MDS) to compare 500 texts of five classes: Human public comments, GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 generated public comments only by presenting the titles of human public comments (i.e., zero-shot learning, GPTzero), GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 emulated by presenting sentences of human public comments and instructing to emulate that (i.e., one-shot learning, GPTone). The MDS results showed that the Japanese stylometric features of the public comments were completely different from those of the GPTzero-generated texts. Moreover, GPTone-generated public comments were closer to those of humans than those generated by GPTzero. In Study 2, the performance levels of the random forest (RF) classifier for distinguishing three classes (human, GPTzero, and GPTone texts). RF classifiers showed the best precision for the human public comments of approximately 90%, and the best precision for the fake public comments generated by GPT (GPTzero and GPTone) was 99.5% by focusing on integrated next writing style features: phrase patterns, parts-of-speech (POS) bigram and trigram, and function words. Therefore, the current study concluded that we could discriminate between GPT-generated fake public comments and those written by humans at the present time.

    Abstract A motorcycle refers to a two-wheeled, personal mobility vehicle used for daily transportation and leisure activities. Leisure enables social interaction, and motorcycle riding could be an activity that facilitates social interactions and distancing. Therefore, grasping the importance of riding motorcycles during the pandemic-which involved social distancing and limited leisure activities-can be valuable. However, researchers have yet to examine its potential importance during the pandemic. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the importance of personal space and time spent with others in the context of motorcycle riding during the COVID-19 pandemic. We specifically explored the effects of COVID-19 on riding patterns and importance of riding motorcycle by examining whether these factors differed regarding changes in the frequency of motorcycle riding before and during the pandemic in daily and leisure-oriented transportation. Data were collected from 1,800 motorcycle users in Japan using a web-based survey conducted in November 2021. Respondents replied to questions concerning the importance of personal space and time spent with others attributed to motorcycle riding before and during the pandemic. Following the survey, we conducted a two-way repeated measures analysis of variance (two-factor ANOVA) and performed a simple main effect analysis using the SPSS syntax editor in case of interactions.     Abstract The Drosophila male germline provides a strong model system to understand numerous developmental and cell-biological processes, owing to a well-defined anatomy and cell type markers in combination with various genetic tools available for the Drosophila system. A major weakness of this system has been the difficulty of approaches for obtaining material for biochemical assays, proteomics, and genomic or transcriptomic profiling due to small-size and complex tissues. However, the recent development of techniques has started allowing us the usage of a low amount of material for these analyses and now we can strategize many new experiments. The method for enrichment or isolation of rare populations of cells is still challenging and should meaningfully influence the reliability of the results. Here, we provide our semi-optimized protocol of enrichment of undifferentiated germ cells and somatic cells from non-tumorous Drosophila testis, which we have successfully improved after multiple trials.

    Abstract In the Drosophila germline stem cell system, maintenance of the stem cell pool requires "dedifferentiation", in which differentiating cells reattach to the niche and reacquire stem cell properties. However, the mechanism of dedifferentiation remains poorly understood. Here, using long-term live imaging, we show that dedifferentiated cells immediately re-enter mitosis with correct spindle orientation after reattachment to the niche. Analysis of cell cycle markers revealed that these dedifferentiating cells are all in G2 phase. In addition, we found that the observed G2 block during dedifferentiation likely corresponds to a centrosome orientation checkpoint (COC), a previously reported polarity checkpoint. We show that re-activation of a COC is likely required for the dedifferentiation thus ensuring asymmetric division even in dedifferentiated stem cells. Taken together, our study demonstrates the remarkable ability of dedifferentiating cells to reacquire the ability to divide asymmetrically.

    Abstract Objectives: This study aimed to identify factors deterring secondary household transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from SARS-CoV-2-positive cohabitants.
    Methods: A case-control study was conducted with 272 healthcare workers in close contact with SARS-CoV-2-positive cohabitants. Logistic regression modeling was employed to determine the factors independently associated with secondary household transmission.
    Results: A SARS-CoV-2 infection within the past 6 months was the most protective factor against secondary household transmission (adjusted odds ratio = 0.07, 95% CI: 0.01-0.61, P <0.05). Home isolation and older age of primary index case (7-12, ≥18 years) were also associated with a reduced risk. Both monovalent and bivalent messenger ribonucleic acid booster vaccinations exhibited potential protective tendencies but were not statistically significant. Additionally, bivalent vaccines did not demonstrate a clear advantage over monovalent vaccines.
    Conclusion: A recent history of SARS-CoV-2 infection, home isolation of positive cohabitants, and older age of primary index cases were positively associated with a reduced risk of secondary household transmission. Regarding booster vaccinations, data from a single center with a limited sample size may not capture all statistically significant differences, necessitating broader studies.
