Abstract Maurice G. Dantec’s work takes part in the legacy of the cyberpunk’s pioneers and yet breaks up from it in many ways. On the one hand, it also claims to stem from literature, which shows through a celebration of the powers of language and through narrative and stylistic achievement. On the other hand, it goes deeper into the postmodern hybridation between pop culture and “high” culture and technology and transcendence, clearly shifting the latter towards christianism, thus attempting to shape a new narrative of trancendence.

Abstract This paper aims to study how computer imaginary evolved from the end of the eighties until our days. To achieve this, we’ll scrutinize two famous cyberpunk pen and paper role playing game’s fictional worlds : Cyberpunk and Shadowrun. After a short description of those fictional worlds, we’ll study how computer imaginary evolved through the many editions of those RPG to emphasize two main ideas : the revolution of wireless hardware and the paradoxical democratization and complexity of computers. After which, we’ll show the permanence and consistency of some notions and representations : how computers are linked to capitalism and the idea of power or violence, and how computers are often related to the idea of magic.

Abstract This article explores how time, destiny and freedom are represented in Ronald D. Moore’s reboot of Battlestar Galactica (Syfy, 2003-2009) by comparing it with the cyclical and providential cosmology of Stoic philosophers. Since the series’ intertextuality increases the effect of “déjà vu”, to give the impression of the eternal return of the same events, we will read the paradoxes of the series through a mythocritical frame of analysis as well as a philosophical one.

Abstract This article aims to show how reader, player, scriptor and author are complex and relative notions in tabletop role playing games. First, tabletop RPG is by essence an interactive practice. It belongs also to the convergence culture described and analyzed by Henri Jenkins. Moreover, the french RPG’s market is so small and undeveloped that it cannot live without fan’s participation and without mixing up professional and fans’ productions. Those issues are illustrated by two examples of fans’ organizations becoming official instances of RPG’s production and promotion.
