Abstract A novel design of a grating-based optical pulse compressor is proposed. The proposed compressor provides a large group delay dispersion while keeping the compressor linear size small. The design of the proposed compressor is based on a traditional Treacy compressor with a straightforward modification of inserting two lenses between the compressor's gratings. This simple alternation aims to substantially increase group delay dispersion of the compressor or alternatively to decrease the compressor size while maintaining its group delay dispersion. A theoretical description of the enhanced compressor has been developed in the paraxial approximation. A detailed numerical model has been built to calculate the compressor parameters more accurately. These theoretical studies have revealed that the enhanced optical compressor provides a significant increase in the group delay dispersion compared to a standard Treacy compressor.

Abstract This article is devoted to reconditioning of working surfaces of equipment exposed to abrasive, corrosive, and cavitation wears. Importance of implementation of rational reconditioning methods at enterprises is discussed. The reasons and properties of wear types are listed, peculiar attention is paid to cavitation wear and its consequences. Classification of faults and reconditioning methods of worn working surfaces are described, it is proposed to use composite materials on polymer basis with various fillers; composite materials with ceramic fillers are more preferred as the most wear resistant ones and providing restoration of numerous wears of process equipment and pipelines. The article presents physicomechanical properties of compounds with ceramic fillers. In order to solve the formulated problems, practical proposals are given with regard to application of composite materials available at Russian market. The most suitable materials are determined on the basis of quality/price ratio. Examples of performed activities are given, economic efficiency of reconditioning using composite materials is highlighted. Major advantages of the proposed technology are described.

Abstract Rivers are major conduits of particulate matter, metal, and carbon from land to coastal seas. They transport huge quantities of water and constituents. Sediments supplied into the river network and the subsequent movement of particles from source to the sink is determined by a complex of natural and anthropogenic processes that change over time and are irregularly distributed in the river basin. The essential part for a quantitative description of these processes is the definition of a sediment budget, which is one of the most important parameters of watershed erosion and deposition. In our study we esteemed, catchment erosion, which includes hillslope and rill, both rainfall and snowmelt by RUSLE and Larionov-Krasnov model, gullies erosion by regional maps of ravine density, channel erosion by satellite data, bed and suspended load in the river mouth by governmental monitoring data, deposition within the watershed and river bed as a difference between total erosion and sediment export for three large Eurasian rivers Ob, Yenisei and Lena in the unites of tonnes per year. We consider that the throughflow from the sources to the sea explains less than 10 % of the suspended sediment inflow (total erosion). Thus, possible origins of the recent storage by ~90-95% of sediment supply are discussed.

Abstract The article considers the possibility of using the finite element method for strength calculations of nodes and parts of modern locomotives. There are examples of solid-state models construction of bogie frames in SolidWorks software package. Developed finite-element models allow determining the tense-strained state of the elements of the crew part of locomotives. The final outcome of modeling is the construction of stress distribution diagrams in the locomotive bogie frame. The data obtained as a result of finite-element modeling can be recommended for use when creating new modern units of locomotives as well as for modernizing and increasing the reliability of existing.

Abstract The second part of the article (see the beginning in No. 6-2021) analyzes the negative consequences of the so-called health care optimization. It is shown that as a result of its implementation, the availability of medical care has decreased. A possible way to improve the territorial organization of medical services is considered. The effectiveness of the Russian health care system in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic was assessed.
