Abstract Nasal septal abscess is an uncommon otolaryngologic condition with little reported in the literature. Most commonly arising secondary to hematoma, idiopathic abscess formation is rare. A previously healthy 13-year-old male with no preceding nasal hematoma or trauma presented with rhinorrhea, nasal pain, and obstruction. Initial incision and drainage were not curative; the patient returned to care with complaints of new-onset headache. Neuroimaging revealed abscess recurrence alongside pansinusitis and epidural empyema. The patient was transferred to a tertiary care center for joint otolaryngologic and neurosurgical care. The patient's postoperative course was uncomplicated. Nasal septal abscesses have become increasingly uncommon, but they still occur. Prompt treatment is warranted to mitigate the potential risk of further intracranial spread and facial deformity, as seen in this case.

Abstract Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common aggressive malignant primary brain tumor, afflicting approximately 3.19 per 100,000 persons in the United States with an incidence 1.6 times higher in males compared to females. Arising from the glial cells known as astrocytes, GBM is commonly located in the supratentorial region (cortical lobes) affecting the frontal lobes. A unique feature of this tumor is its rapid local growth and spread making the prognosis very poor with a 5-year survival rate of 6.9%. The treatment of GBM remains challenging. Multiple therapeutic interventions are used for GBM, including the surgical resection of the tumor, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Other experimental methods for the treatment of GBM include immune therapy, gene therapy, simulated microgravity therapy and oncolytic viral therapy. We propose a combination therapy of simulated microgravity using a clinostat-based three-dimensional culture system with oncolytic viral therapy using an autonomous rat parvovirus H1. Our hypothesis combines the beneficial effects of simulated microgravity and oncolytic viral therapy to lyse tumor cells through the induction of apoptosis, decreased cell proliferation and/or the induction of an immune response. This proposal provides the foundations to construct novel breakthroughs in the treatment of GBM.

Abstract Leisure air travel is a popular form of tourism, but its emissions are a major contributor to anthropogenic climate change. Restrictions to leisure air travel have previously received little support; however, the same restrictions to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 have been popular. This support is unlikely to persist in a postpandemic world, highlighting the need for alternative ways to improve support for reducing leisure air travel. Anthropomorphism of nature has consistently predicted proenvironmental behavior, which has been mediated by guilt felt for harm to the environment. This research is the first empirical study to explore this relationship in the context of COVID-19, where it examined support for restricting leisure air travel to help mitigate (1) COVID-19 and (2) climate change. In an experimental online study, Australian residents (

Abstract Background: The proliferation of COVID-19 radically altered people’s daily routines over the last two years, particularly among young. Closures of schools and colleges resulted in virtual learning that increased reliance on gadgets causing digital dependency among youth. The prevalence of digital amnesia, somatic symptoms and sleep disorders among youth during this pandemic require considerable attention since it has not been addressed widely. Methods: Cross-sectional study was carried out among 326 youth aged between 18 to 25 years. Digital Amnesia Scale, Somatic Symptom Disorder-B Criteria Scale (SSD-12) and Sleep disorders Symptom Checklist (SDS-CL-17) were used to collect data from participants. Results: Significant positive relationship was found between digital amnesia, somatic symptoms and sleep disorders among youth. Youth differed significantly in their somatic symptoms based on demographic variables such as gender, family type and area of residence. Digital amnesia had significant impact on somatic symptoms through the mediation effect of insomnia and circadian rhythm dimensions of sleep disorders. Conclusion: Productive use of digital devices would help youth reduce digital amnesia. Practicing digital break/digital detox could also help them improve their cognitive, affective and behavioural aspects, as well as their quality of sleep.
