Abstract In recent decades, the world is facing significant global population growth, leading to an energy use intensification. Due to the depletion of global energy resources, renewable sources can be used to replace or enhance conventional sources. Solar energy is a non-polluting and inexhaustible energy source. The solar chimney uses solar energy to heat the air and generate an updraft airflow, which can be used for electricity generation or agricultural drying. Most models from the literature predict the steady-state airflow parameters using fixed values for ambient temperature and solar radiation, or unsteady analysis using experimental data. In this paper, a comprehensive assessment of the unsteady airflow inside a small-scale prototype is presented. A mathematical model is used to predict the mass flowrate and the temperatures of the airflow throughout a year, on an hourly basis, and the results showed a good agreement with experimental data obtained in a small prototype. The performance of the system was evaluated, with a maximum exergy efficiency of 11%. The low energy and exergy efficiencies were mainly attributed to the small dimensions of the prototype.

Abstract The aim of this study was to carry out a systematic literature review to investigate the main immune cells responsible for implantation failures. We selected papers from PubMed, Embase and Virtual Health Library databases. Eligible articles included publications between January 1, 2010 and April 24, 2022. Inclusion criteria were: observational and case-control studies; and the exclusion criteria were: review papers, letters to the editor, abstracts, animal studies and case reports. We extracted the following information: day of collection, number of patients, control group, age of patients, type of sample used, immune cells and cytokines. As main findings in our mapping, we found that in peripheral blood, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD16+, CD56+, CD57+, CD69+, CD154+, CD158a+, NKp46 cells were increased and the CD4+, CD45+, Foxp3 and NKp46 markers were reduced. From the endometrial biopsies, there was an increase in CD3+, CD4+, CD5+, CD8+, CD16+, CD25+, CD45+, CD56+, CD57+, CD68+, CD127+ and a reduction in CD45+, CD56+, NKp46 and FoxP3 cells. Cytokines found increased in peripheral blood included IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, INF-γ, TGF-ß, TNF-α; while IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-35, FoxP3, TGF-ß, SOCS3 were reduced. As for the biopsies, there was an increase in IL-2, IL-6, IL-17, IL-22, IL-23, INF-A1, INF-B1, INF-γ, TNF-R and a reduction in IL-6, IL-10, INF-γ, TGFß, TNF-α. We concluded that immune cells can be modulated during pregnancy failure, but further studies are needed to elucidate the modulating effect of the immune system on the endometrium of these patients.

Abstract Objectives: We compared the autonomic modulation and sleep behavior of eutrophic and overweight patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Methods: COPD participants were divided into the overweight and eutrophic groups. Pulmonary function, blood pressure, body composition, autonomic modulation, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index score were assessed. Participants performed the six-minute walk test for functional assessment.
Results: Spirometric variables obtained in eutrophic and overweight individuals with COPD showed no statistically different results. We observed that the SDNN index indicated lower overall variability (p=0.003), and root mean square of successive differences between normal heart beats (RMSSD) (p=0.04) indicated lower parasympathetic modulation in the overweight group than observed in the eutrophic group. The indexes of the frequency domain presented lower values of total variability (p<0.01), low frequency bands (p<0.01), and high frequency (p=0.02), suggesting a higher sympathetic modulation and reduced parasympathetic modulation of the overweight group compared to eutrophic group. The overweight group also showed reduced sleep quality than the eutrophic group.
Conclusion: Overweight COPD patients showed lower autonomic modulation and impaired sleep quality, latency, and efficiency as compared eutrophic subjects. These results reinforce the importance of weight control and the acquisition of healthy habits in this population.

Abstract Redox imbalance may compromise the homeostasis of physiological processes indispensable to gestational development in HIV-infected women. The present study aims to evaluate markers of the redox system in the development of pregnancy of these women. HIV-positive pregnant women, HIV-negative pregnant women and non-pregnant were studied. Redox markers superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), protein carbonylation and malondialdehyde (MDA) were assessed at first or second trimester, third trimester and postpartum from pregnant and from non-pregnant women. According to the longitudinal analysis model, CAT activity was increased in the postpartum in HIV-positive women and before delivery in HIV-negative women. Increased carbonylation was observed in the pre-delivery period of HIV-negative pregnant women and MDA concentrations were higher in HIV-positive pregnant women compared to those non-infected by HIV at all times. According to the factorial model, higher SOD and CAT activities were observed in HIV-positive women in the initial months of pregnancy and in non-pregnant women. Carbonylation at third trimester was more evident in HIV-negative pregnant women. MDA levels were higher in HIV-positive pregnant women. Increased oxidative stress may occur in HIV-infected pregnant women. Nevertheless, the HIV virus is not solely responsible for this process; instead, mechanisms inherent to the pregnancy seem to play a role in this imbalance.
