    Abstract The project 'Obesogenic Environment and Childhood Obesity' (OBECHO), carried out under the leadership of the International Institute of Spatial Lifecourse Epidemiology (ISLE), has reviewed all sufficiently reported studies of obesogenic environmental determinants published prior to 1 January 2019. Findings of the OBECHO project have formed the unprecedentedly inclusive evidence for policy-making and the establishment of the future research agenda regarding the obesogenic environment. Furthermore, the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has made this evidence become an important benchmark record of how youths have interacted with the obesogenic environment in the pre-COVID-19 era. The implementation of lockdown measures worldwide for curbing COVID-19 transmission has been affecting not mere youth's lifestyle behaviours and weight status but, more fundamentally, obesogenic environments and hence youth-environment interaction patterns. However, COVID-19, although causing unfavoured changes, will speed up the transformation of the research landscape from traditional to modern modes for more reliable evidence. We should closely track and study those abnormalities caused by COVID-19 and the accompanying interventions.

    Abstract The increasing prevalence of obesity in youth has contributed to the growing global burden of chronic diseases (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and cancers), which has been largely accounted for by obesogenic behaviours and environments. Previous studies have focused on the influences on obesity of multidimensional environmental indicators, which have mixed effects, for example, built environmental factors, food environmental factors and neighbourhood safety. After a thorough search of all databases, I found a limited body of reviews on the associations of basic environmental factors. A basic environmental factor, from a perspective of geographic information systems, is an indicator constructed by only one-step spatial function, without ambiguous effects on obesity. In contrast to basic obesogenic environmental factors, an example of mixed environmental factor is neighbourhood safety, which is a complex measure of night light, crime rate, traffic volume, speed limit, smoothness of roads and many other factors of injury. Without a sufficient, up-to-date understanding of the roles of basic obesogenic environmental factors in obesity, the uncertainties will propagate and lead to more uncertainties in the association between indicators and obesity.

    Abstract The epidemic course of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) has been differently divided according to its transmission pattern and the infection and mortality status. Unfortunately, such efforts for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been lacking. Does every epidemic have a unique epidemic course? Can we coordinate two arbitrary courses into an integrated course, which could better reflect a common real-world progression pattern of the epidemics? To what degree can such arbitrary divisions help predict future trends of the COVID-19 pandemic and future epidemics? Spatial lifecourse epidemiology provides a new perspective to understand the course of epidemics, especially pandemics, and a new toolkit to predict the course of future epidemics on the basis of big data. In the present data-driven era, data should be integrated to inform us how the epidemic is transmitting at the present moment, how it will transmit at the next moment, and which interventions would be most cost-effective to curb the epidemic. Both national and international legislations are needed to facilitate the integration of relevant policies of data sharing and confidentiality protection into the current pandemic preparedness guidelines.

    Abstract This paper proposed a real-time fault diagnostic method for hydraulic systems using data collected from multiple sensors. The method is based on a proposed multi-sensor convolutional neural network (MS-CNN) that incorporates feature extraction, sensor selection, and fault diagnosis into an end-to-end model. Both the sensor selection process and fault diagnosis process are based on abstract fault-related features learned by a CNN deep learning model. Therefore, compared with the traditional sensor-and-feature selection method, the proposed MS-CNN can find the sensor channels containing higher-level fault-related features, which provides two advantages for diagnosis. First, the sensor selection can reduce the redundant information and improve the diagnostic performance of the model. Secondly, the reduced number of sensors simplifies the model, reducing communication burden and computational complexity. These two advantages make the MS-CNN suitable for real-time hydraulic system fault diagnosis, in which the multi-sensor feature extraction and the computation speed are both significant. The proposed MS-CNN approach is evaluated experimentally on an electric-hydraulic subsea control system test rig and an open-source dataset. The proposed method shows obvious superiority in terms of both diagnosis accuracy and computational speed when compared with traditional CNN models and other state-of-the-art multi-sensor diagnostic methods.

    Abstract Objective. To assess the effect of laparoscopic cholecystectomy for acute cholecystitis after percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD). Methods. A total of 70 patients with acute cholecystitis diagnosed and treated in our hospital between April 2020 and November 2021 were recruited and assigned to receive either conventional treatment (conventional group) or PTGBD plus laparoscopic cholecystectomy (experimental group) according to the order of admission (with January 2021 as the cut-off time point), with 35 cases in each group. Outcome measures included treatment outcomes, surgical indices, and postoperative recovery. Results. Patients in the experimental group showed significantly less intraoperative hemorrhage volume and shorter operative time, time-lapse before passing gas, and hospital stay (83.15 ± 31.17, 32.54 ± 12.61, 23.02 ± 4.61, 7.98 ± 3.24) versus those in the conventional group (120.56 ± 30.55, 61.01 ± 15.54, 28.15 ± 5.91, 11.95 ± 4.15) (P<0.05). The incidence of conversion to open surgery and postoperative drainage in the experimental group was significantly lower (2.86%, 5.71%) than that of the conventional group (25.71%, 45.71%) (P<0.05). The differences in the postoperative body temperature of the two groups did not come up to statistical standard (P>0.05). The experimental group had faster body temperature recovery and leukocyte recovery and better leukocyte levels (1.25 ± 0.56, 2.36 ± 0.48, 7.92 ± 1.36) than the conventional group (3.11 ± 1.05, 5.41 ± 0.63, 10.52 ± 2.78) (P<0.05). There was 1 (2.86%) case of pneumothorax and 1 (2.86%) case of intestinal bleeding in the experimental group, and there were 2 (5.71%) cases of biliary leakage, 3 (8.57%) cases of pneumothorax, 4 (11.43%) cases of intestinal bleeding, 5.71% cases of incisional infection, 1 (2.86%) case of respiratory failure, and 1 (2.86%) case of liver damage in the conventional group.     Abstract ObjectiveThis article aimed to evaluate the efficiency trends and influencing factors of essential public health services in Hainan Province after the healthcare reform launched in 2009 in China.MethodsThe efficiency of essential public health services (EPHS) at primary health institutions was assessed using data envelopment analysis (DEA), and the efficiency change was analyzed by employing the Malmquist productivity index (MPI). We used Tobit regression to identify the influence of environmental factors on the efficiency of public health services. The bootstrap method was adopted to reduce the impact of random errors on the result.ResultsThe bootstrapping bias-corrected efficiency revealed that the average values of technical efficiency, pure technical efficiency, and scale efficiency were 0.7582, 0.8439, and 0.8997, respectively, which meant that the EPHS in Hainan Province were not at the most effective state. The average bias-corrected MPI was 1.0407 between 2010 and 2011 and 1.7404 between 2011 and 2012. MPIs were less than 1.0000 during other periods investigated, ranging from 0.8948 to 0.9714, indicating that the efficiency of EPHS has been decreasing since 2013. The Tobit regression showed that the regression coefficients of per capita GDP, population density, the proportion of older people aged over 65, and the proportion of ethnic minority population were 0.0286, −0.0003, −0.0316, and − 0.0041 respectively, which were statistically significant (p < 0.05).ConclusionThere was a short-term improvement in the efficiency of EPHS in Hainan after the launch of the new round of health reform. However, this trend has not been sustained after 2013. In particular, equalized financial investment in essential public health could not fulfill the needs of poor counties. This has resulted in the inability to improve scale efficiency in some counties, which in turn has affected the improvement of overall EPHS efficiency.     Abstract The extensive use of reinforced materials in the construction industry has raised increased concerns about their safety and durability, while corrosion detection of steel materials is becoming increasingly important. For the scientific management, timely repair and health monitoring of construction materials, as well as to ensure construction safety and prevent accidents, this paper investigates corrosion detection on construction materials based on piezoelectric sensors. At present, the commonly used corrosion detection methods include physical and electrochemical methods, but there are shortcomings such as large equipment area, low detection frequency, and complex operation. In this study an improved piezoelectric ultrasonic sensor was designed, which could not only detect the internal defects of buildings while not causing structural damage, but also realize continuous detection and enable qualitative and quantitative assessment. Corrosion detection of reinforced building materials with piezoelectric sensors is quick and accurate, which can find hidden dangers and provide a reliable basis for the safety of the buildings.
