Abstract Under hydrothermal conditions, a Keggin-type polyoxometalate-based metal–organic complex, H4{[Cu4(EDDP)2(H2O)5]1.5(SiW12O40)}∙7.5H2O (CuW-EDDP, H4EDDP = ethylene-diamine-N,N'-dipropionic acid), was synthesized by reacting Na10[A-α-SiW9O34]·18H2O and CuCl2·2H2O in the presence of H4EDDP ligands and characterized by powder and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetry. Interestingly, CuW-EDDP exhibited a three-dimensional structure with (4,6)-connected constructed from [SiW12O40]4− units and tetranuclear Cu complexes [Cu4(EDDP)2(H2O)5]. As an effective heterogeneous catalyst, CuW-EDDP exhibited excellent performance, good reusability, and structural stability in the selective oxidation of methyl phenyl sulfide with high conversion (100%) and selectivity (98%) within 30 min. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of CuW-EDDP in the oxidation of other sulfide derivatives was investigated.

Abstract Abstract. Background:. Single subcortical infarction (SSI) is caused by two main etiological subtypes, which are branch atheromatous disease (BAD) and cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD)-related SSI. We applied the Beijing version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA-BJ), the Shape Trail Test (STT), and the Stroop Color and Word Test (SCWT) to investigate the differences in cognitive performance between these two subtypes of SSI. Methods:. Patients with acute SSIs were prospectively enrolled. The differences of MoCA-BJ, STT, and SCWT between the BAD group and CSVD-related SSI group were analyzed. A generalized linear model was used to analyze the associations between SSI patients with different etiological mechanisms and cognitive function. We investigated the correlations between MoCA-BJ, STT, and SCWT using Spearman's correlation analysis and established cut-off scores for Shape Trail Test A (STT-A) and STT-B to identify cognitive impairment in patients with SSI. Results:. This study enrolled a total of 106 patients, including 49 and 57 patients with BAD and CSVD-related SSI, respectively. The BAD group performances were worse than those of the CSVD-related SSI group for STT-A (83 [60.5–120.0] vs. 68 [49.0–86.5], P = 0.01), STT-B (204 [151.5–294.5] vs. 153 [126.5–212.5], P = 0.015), and the number of correct answers on Stroop-C (46 [41–49] vs. 49 [45–50], P = 0.035). After adjusting for age, years of education, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and lesion location, the performance of SSI patients with different etiological mechanisms still differed significantly for STT-A and STT-B. Conclusions:. BAD patients were more likely to perform worse than CSVD-related SSI patients in the domains of language, attention, executive function, and memory. The mechanism of cognitive impairment after BAD remains unclear.

Abstract PURPOSE: To determine whether 3.0-T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could assess right ventricular (RV) function in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and if this assessment is correlated with the New York Heart Function Assessment (NYHA) classification. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-six patients with HCM and 23 normal individuals were recruited. Left and right ventricular function parameters including end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes (EDV, ESV), stroke volume (SV) and ejection fraction (EF) and dimensions were measured and compared using 3.0-T MRI. RV function parameters between HCM patients and controls were compared using independent sample t tests. A one way ANOVA test with Bonferroni correction was used to determine significant differences among different NYHA groups. Receiver operating characteristic analyses calculated the sensitivity and specificity of RV dysfunction on MRI for the prediction of HCM severity. RESULTS: Statistical analysis revealed significant differences of left ventricular (LV) and RV volumetric values and masses between the HCM patients and controls (all p<0.05). Within the HCM group, the simultaneously decreased maximum RVEDD correlated well with the LVEDD (r = 0.53; p<0.001). The function and dimension parameters among Class I to III were not determined to be significantly different (all p>0.05). However, significant differences between the Class IV and I-III groups (all P<0.0167) indicated that the diastolic and systolic function in both the RV and LV were impaired in Class IV patients. ROC analyses identified the EDV, ESV and EDD of both the LV and RV with a high sensitivity cutoff value to predict the HCM patients with severe heart failure (Class IV) with high sensitivity and specificity. CONCLUSIONS: RV involvements were comparable to those of LV global function impairments in patients with HCM. The presence of RV dysfunction and decreased dimension on the MRI helped to predict the severe symptomatic HCM with high sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract Objective: To master the prevalence status of schistosomiasis in Yunnan Province in 2016, so as to provide the evidence for formulating the control strategy and intervention measures.
Methods: The schistosomiasis heavy-endemic villages were selected from each of 18 endemic counties as the survey sites. Then, the serological and etiological tests were carried out in the local residents and floating population, and the infection status of the livestock, field feces and
Results: The serum positive rate of schistosomiasis of local residents was 8.78% and the serum positive rate was 2.26% of floating population. No schistosome eggs were found in the stool examinations in the population. The area with snails was 80.054 6 hm
Conclusions: The schistosomiasis epidemic situation is stabilized in Yunnan Province in 2016. However, the area with snails and the number of living snails are increasing, and therefore, the schistosomiasis epidemic risk still exists. So, the comprehensive control measures should be strengthened continuously.

Abstract Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) nanoparticles are effective contrast agents for enhancement of magnetic resonance imaging at the tissue, cellular or even molecular levels. High quality SPIO nanoparticles can be synthesized in the organic phase but need to be transferred into water before any biomedical applications. In this study, amphiphilic poly(ε-caprolactone) grafted dextran (Dex-g-PCL) was used as carriers for particle encapsulation and stabilization in the aqueous phase. Multiple SPIO nanoparticles were self-assembled together with the help of Dex-g-PCL during phase transfer from chloroform to water, and diameters of Dex-g-PCL/SPIO nanocomposites were (64 ± 22) nm through dynamic light scattering measurement. These nanocomposites were superparamagnetic at 300 K with saturated magnetization of 88 emu/g Fe. In the magnetic field of 1.5 T, Dex-g-PCL/SPIO nanocomposites had a T2 relaxivity of 363 Fe mL·mol⁻¹·s⁻¹. This unique nanocomposite brought significant mouse liver contrast with signal intensity changes of −60% at 5 min after intravenous administration. However, uptake of Dex-g-PCL/SPIO nanocomposites in liver reticuloendothelial cells (Kupffer cells) did not immediately happen at shorter time points (〈4 h) as verified by histology studies, and it was evident that more iron staining would be located in Kupffer cells 24 h after contrast agent administration. After 24 h and 10 d, the signal intensities (SI) gradually recovered, and SI changes were −44% and −31%, respectively. From our observation, the time window for enhanced-MRI could last at least 12 days and totally recovered after 16 days. This novel sensitive MRI contrast agent may find potential applications in discovering small liver lesions such as early tumor diagnosis.
