Abstract Electron beam damage in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is complicated because the damage phenomena can be the result of random atomic displacements or collective migrations. The former is categorized as the primary beam effects and the latter is the secondary beam effects. The mechanisms for these two distinguishing atomic processes of damage are different. The primary beam effects can be caused by the mechanisms of knock-on and/or radiolysis, while the secondary effects must be driven by a field that is induced by electron irradiation. One such field has been identified to be the electric field produced by the accumulated charges due to the ejection of secondary and Auger electrons from the irradiated region. One convincing example is the electron irradiation-induced domain switch in ferroelectric materials, in which the collective cation displacements are driven by the induced electric field. A detailed interpretation is given in this review. The sintering of metal NPs under electron irradiation is a secondary beam effect and is most likely also caused by the induced electric fields. The interactions between the charged NP and substrate, and between charged NPs, result in NP motion. Interchanging atoms between NPs during the sintering may also be driven by the electric fields. Although many beam-damage phenomena in C nanotubes and layered materials, such as graphene, BN, and transition metal dichalcogenides, are caused by the primary beam effects and have been well studied experimentally and theoretically in the literature, some phenomena from the secondary beam effects have also been identified in this review. These phenomena are sensitive to electron current density, the shape and orientation of the specimen, and even the illumination mode (i.e., TEM or STEM). Unfortunately, the mechanisms responsible for these phenomena still need to be clarified.

Abstract Aiming at the problems of poor layout design efficiency of smart home products and low rationality of layout planning, a layout design method for smart home products based on a real-number coding genetic algorithm is proposed. The principles of smart home product layout design are analyzed and the smart home system architecture based on the Internet of Things is designed. Divide the combination of smart home product layout space according to spatial function, extract the visual features of smart home product layout, build a smart home product layout optimization model based on the two constraints of the total area and individual area of smart home product spatial layout, and design a real-coded genetic algorithm. The model is solved to improve the global convergence of the algorithm, and the optimization method for the layout of smart home products is obtained. The experimental results show that the layout design method of smart home products based on a real-number coding genetic algorithm can accurately extract the layout features of smart home products and accurately classify the number of pairs of homes. The efficiency of layout design and rationality of layout planning of smart home products are better, which reflects the effectiveness of this method.

Abstract The role of formal volunteering in mental health promotion among older adults in China has been widely discussed during recent decades. However, the relationship connecting mental health with cross-level interaction (i.e., average levels of participation in the community vs. individual participation) is still unclear. This paper examined the effects of cross-level formal volunteering on depressive symptoms among older adults living in China. Using two waves of the China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey, a sample of 3128 Chinese older adults was surveyed in 2014 and 2016. Depressive symptoms were measured using the abbreviated CES-D-9. Individual fixed-effects ordinary least squares regression models assessed the associations between individual- and community-level formal volunteering and depressive symptoms in urban and rural areas separately. We found that in the urban sample, formal volunteering activities were negatively associated with depressive symptoms at the individual level (β = -0.49, SE = 0.22, p < 0.05). Higher community-level formal volunteering was positively associated with depressive symptoms (β = 2.82, SE = 1.42, p < 0.05). When adding interactions between individual and community levels, engagement in individual-level formal volunteering was associated with lower rates of depressive symptoms as community volunteering participation levels increased (β = -3.07, SE = 1.07, p < 0.01). High community-level volunteering participation was detrimental for non-volunteers. In rural areas, neither community- nor individual-level formal volunteering was associated with changes in depressive symptoms. The current findings demonstrate formal volunteering may not always benefit mental health for all. The effects may depend on the community context and individual choices. Social policies aimed to promote mental health through formal volunteering need to be tailored according to the specific community social environment.

Abstract This study applies the paradigm of self-paced reading to examine the Context Predictability Effect in the processing of Chinese and detect whether there is a prediction error cost. Context constraint strength (constraining and neutral) and word predictability (predictable and unpredictable) were strictly manipulated. The statistical results suggest that: (1) There is a Context Predictability Effect for Chinese native speakers in reading processing, which is consistent with most previous studies; (2) There is also a Context Predictability Effect for advanced Chinese L2 learners; (3) Both Chinese native speakers and Chinese L2 learners have a prediction error cost in reading processing, a finding different from those of much previous research. (4) Chinese L2 learners are significantly slower than Chinese native speakers when they conduct predictive reading processing. This paper is very enlightening in that it identifies the existence of a prediction error cost in Chinese L2 processing by means of behavioral experiments, providing evidence for the hypothesis of Lexical Prediction. In a strongly predictive setting, when encountering a plausible but unpredictable word, the brain must expend extra effort to suppress, revise, or reanalyze the material, and this may account for the prediction error cost.

Abstract The in-depth combination and application of AI technology and medical imaging, especially high- definition CT imaging technology, make accurate diagnosis and treatment possible. Retrieving similar CT image(CI)s to an input one from the large-scale CI database of labeled diseases is helpful to realize a precise computer-aided diagnosis. In this paper, we take lung CI as an example and propose progressive content-based similarity retrieval(CBSR) method of the lung CIs based on a Weakly Supervised Similarity Learning Network (WSSLN) model. Two enabling techniques (i.e., the WSSLN model and the distance- based pruning scheme) are proposed to facilitate the CBSR processing of the large lung CIs. The main result of our paper is that, our approach is about 45% more effective than the state-of-the-art methods in terms of the mean average precision(mAP). Moreover, for the retrieval efficiency, the WSSLN-based CBSR method is about 150% more efficient than the sequential scan.

Abstract Controllable bonded prestress represents an innovative advancement stemming from retard-bonded prestress systems, distinguished by its intrinsic controllability in bonding. The controllable bonded binder can be artificially heated and cured rapidly through DC heating after the completion of prestressed tension, allowing for enhanced control over the process. FLUENT simulates controllable bonded prestressed structure's temperature field, yielding a 1.73% max error validated against measured data. Based on the theory of heat transfer, the maximum error of the calculated temperature field of the controllable bonded test beam under DC heating using the Stehfest numerical algorithm is 1.28%, which exhibits a strong alignment with both simulated and measured results. The parameter analysis identifies current, binder thickness, and steel-strand diameter as key temperature distribution influencers. The relationship between the current and heating time follows a quadratic inverse pattern. Increasing the heating current can significantly reduce the duration of heating. Under identical heating conditions, the temperature of the controllable binder is directly proportional to its thickness. A higher thickness results in a higher temperature. Additionally, larger diameters of steel-stranded wire lead to a lower heating efficiency.

Abstract An aqueous N-acylation reaction for preparing cinnamic acid amides was realized by using a variant of acyltransferase from Mycobacterium smegmatis (MsAcT-L12A), whereas the wild-type MsAcT showed no activity. MsAcT-L12A exhibited broad substrate adaptability, and preferred the substrates with electron-donating group. When the vinyl cinnamate (1a, 40 mM) and p-methoxyaniline (2a, 4 mM) were involved in the reaction, the excellent yield reached to 86.7 % ± 2.1 % within 3 h by MsAcT-L12A (1 mg

Abstract In the field of qualitative decision making with hesitant fuzzy linguistic term sets (HFLTSs), distance measure (DM) is a significant concept that reflects the degree of difference between HFLTSs. Various DMs among HFLTSs have been proposed, which enhance the applicability of HFLTSs in multicriteria decision making (MCDM) under qualitative hesitation information. However, existing strategies not only have their own pros and cons but also fail to measure linguistic assessments from multiple linguistic term sets with different distributions (i.e., multigranular unbalanced linguistic information). In this article, we first propose a new strict DM between two hesitant fuzzy linguistic elements (HFLEs) based on the Wasserstein distance of their semantics intervals. Then, two novel kinds of DMs (Euclidean and Chebyshev forms) for HFLTSs are proposed and their strictness is proved. Weighted and ordered weighted versions of HFLTSs based on Euclidean form are derived. Afterward, illustrative examples, simulations, and related analyses are given to demonstrate the rationality of the proposals. Finally, two cases are applied to verify the efficiency and practicality of the novel measures in real life.
