Abstract Craniofacial hard tissue mainly includes craniofacial bone and tooth, which is one of the important parts of the mouth-jaw system. Congenital aplasia, tumors and trauma can cause large craniofacial hard tissue defects, which are detrimental to the facial appearance and function of patients, and affect the physical and mental health of patients. Histone acetylation modification is the earliest and most widely studied histone modification, which is an epigenetic modification mechanism jointly regulated by histone acetyltransferase and histone deacetylase. In this paper, we will review the research progress of histone acetylation mediated by histone acetyltransferase and histone deacetylase in the development and regeneration of craniofacial hard tissue.

Abstract Objective: Unilateral biportal endoscopic (UBE) discectomy is a reliable endoscopic technique in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation. However, UBE discectomy involves a single-handed manipulation, which may compromise the utility of the procedure. The present study was performed to examine the efficacy and safety of a novel pin-assisted retraction technique.
Methods: This single-center retrospective cohort study involved 57 consecutive patients who underwent UBE lumbar discectomy from July 2021 to May 2022. The patients were randomly divided into the pin-assisted UBE discectomy group (P-UBE group) and the traditional UBE discectomy group (T-UBE group). The patients' perioperative data, clinical outcomes, and radiologic outcomes were collected and compared between the two groups.
Results: The operative time, intraoperative blood loss, endoscopic irrigation volume, and overall complication rate were significantly lower in the P-UBE group than in the T-UBE group. There were no significant differences in the clinical outcome data between the two groups.
Conclusion: P-UBE discectomy may have superior safety and efficacy over the traditional technique, and it has the potential to serve as an optional method in UBE lumbar surgery.

Abstract With the continuous decline of water resources due to population growth and rapid economic development, precipitation prediction plays an important role in the rational allocation of global water resources. To address the non-linearity and non-stationarity of monthly precipitation, a combined prediction method based on complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition (CEEMD) and a modified long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network was proposed. Firstly, the CEEMD method was used to decompose the monthly precipitation series into a set of relatively stationary sub-sequence components, which can better reflect the local characteristics of the sequence and further understand the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the sequence. Then, improved LSTM neural networks were employed to predict each sub-sequence. The proposed improvement method optimized the hyper-parameters of LSTM neural networks using particle swarm optimization algorithm, which avoided the randomness of artificial parameter selection. Finally, the predicted results of each component were superimposed to obtain the final prediction result. The proposed method was validated by taking the monthly precipitation data from 1961 to 2020 in Changde City, Hunan Province as an example. The results of the case study show that, compared with other traditional prediction methods, the proposed method can better reflect the trend of precipitation changes and has higher prediction accuracy.

Abstract Fibrosis is the excess deposition of extracellular matrix involved in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases and finally leads to the disruption of tissue architecture and failure of organ function. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a class of RNAs with lengths greater than 200 nucleotides and do not code proteins, which regulate gene expression at multiple levels. Nuclear-enriched abundant transcript 1 (NEAT1) is a long noncoding RNA that is widely expressed in mammalian cells and known as essential architectural scaffold for the formation of paraspeckles. Recently, the accumulating studies demonstrated that lncRNA NEAT1 was remarkable upregulated in the development of fibrosis in different organs, such as liver fibrosis, renal fibrosis, cardiac fibrosis, and lung fibrosis. More importantly, knockdown of NEAT1 remarkably alleviated fibrosis in vitro and in vivo. In this review, we summarized current studies of NEAT1 in fibrosis and hopefully aid in a better understanding of the mechanisms of fibrosis and the potential of NEAT1 as novel therapeutic target for fibrosis.
