    Abstract In practice, it is common that a best fitting structural equation model (SEM) is selected from a set of candidate SEMs and inference is conducted conditional on the selected model. Such post-selection inference ignores the model selection uncertainty and yields too optimistic inference. Using the largest candidate model avoids model selection uncertainty but introduces a large variation. Jin and Ankargren (Psychometrika 84:84-104, 2019) proposed to use frequentist model averaging in SEM with continuous data as a compromise between model selection and the full model. They assumed that the true values of the parameters depend on [Formula: see text] with n being the sample size, which is known as a local asymptotic framework. This paper shows that their results are not directly applicable to SEM with ordinal data. To address this issue, we prove consistency and asymptotic normality of the polychoric correlation estimators under the local asymptotic framework. Then, we propose a new frequentist model averaging estimator and a valid confidence interval that are suitable for ordinal data. Goodness-of-fit test statistics for the model averaging estimator are also derived.

    Abstract Many materials have a network of fibers as their main structural component and are referred to as network materials. Their strength and toughness are important in both engineering and biology. In this work we consider stochastic model fiber networks without pre-existing cracks and study their rupture mechanism. These materials soften as the crosslinks or fibers fail and exhibit either brittle failure immediately after the peak stress, or a more gradual, ductile rupture in the post peak regime. We observe that ductile failure takes place at constant energy release rate defined in the absence of pre-existing cracks as the strain derivative of the specific energy released. The network parameters controlling the energy release rate are identified and discussed in relation to the Lake-Thomas theory which applies to crack growth situations. We also observe a ductile to brittle failure transition as the network becomes more affine and relate the embrittlement to the reduction of mechanical heterogeneity of the network. Further, we confirm previous reports that the network strength scales linearly with the bond strength and with the crosslink density. The present results extend the Lake-Thomas theory to networks without pre-existing cracks which fail by the gradual accumulation of distributed damage and contribute to the development of a physical picture of failure in stochastic network materials.

    Abstract The limiting spectral distribution of matrix [Formula: see text] is considered in this paper. Existing results always focus on the condition of modifying Tn, but for Xn, it is usually assumed to be a matrix composed of n × N independent identically distributed elements. Here we specify the joint distribution of column vectors of Xn. In particular, entries on the same column of Xn are correlated, in contrast with more common independence assumptions. Assuming that the columns of Xn are random vectors following the isotropic log-concave distribution, and under some additional regularity conditions, we prove that the empirical spectral distribution [Formula: see text] of matrix Bn converges to a deterministic probability distribution F almost surely. Moreover, the Stieltjes transformation m = m(z) of F satisfies a deterministic form of equation, and for any [Formula: see text], it is the unique solution of the equation.

    Abstract Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the combination of virtual simulation and in-person simulation among undergraduate nursing students.
    Background: At present, in-person simulation is the main form of simulation in China. With the development of computer technology, computer-based virtual simulation is gradually applied in simulation and has shown unique advantages. However, simulation format that combines virtual simulation with in-person simulation is rare in China.
    Design: This was a mixed methods study, which applied a QUAN→qual sequential explanatory approach.
    Methods: In the quantitative phase, a non-randomized controlled trial (NRCT) was employed among 93 junior nursing students from nursing school of a university in China. Students from parallel classes 1, 2 and 3 (45 students) were selected as experimental group, while students from parallel classes 4, 5 and 6 (48 students) were selected as control group. The control group completed the in-person simulation, while the experimental group was required to complete both virtual simulation and in-person simulation. The students' performance in in-person simulation was evaluated by the teachers according to a demonstrating checklist. After simulation, Students were invited to answer the Students' Satisfaction and Self-confidence in Learning Scale (SSS), Educational Practices in Simulation Scale (EPSS) and Clinical Learning Environment Comparison Survey (CLECS). A descriptive qualitative study was conducted in qualitative phase. Ten students were recruited by a purposive sampling method from the experimental group and were interviewed by the researcher. A semi-structured interview method was used to conduct in-depth interviews with them.
    Results: The mean score of the students' performance in the experimental group was higher than that in the control group (63.00 vs 57.67). There were no significant differences in learning satisfaction, self-confidence and simulated practice score (except cooperation dimension) between the two groups (P>0.05). For experimental group, the total CLECS score in in-person simulation was higher than that in virtual simulation, which was 84.98±12.50 and 72.58±13.04 respectively and the difference was statistically significant (t=5.270, p<0.001). Ten students were interviewed in the qualitative phase. Through the interview, we have learned that students believed that virtual simulation combined with in-person simulation is helpful to enhance their knowledge, improve their learning confidence and help them develop non-technical skills (i.e., decision-making and critical thinking).
    Conclusion: In-person simulation is the preferred form of simulation and virtual simulation is a beneficial supplement to in-person simulation. The combination of the two is suggested to be introduced into the simulation curriculum for undergraduate nursing students.

    Abstract Green product innovation (GPDI) is crucial for addressing ecological issues and essential for enterprises' green operations and long-term growth. Digitization offers new possibilities for enhancing corporate green practices. Nevertheless, previous studies have predominantly addressed the association between overall digitalization and corporate green innovation, and research on the outcome of specific digital technology categories on green innovation is lacking. Within this framework, this study broadens the investigation into the connection between distinct categories of digital technologies and corporate green innovation. The period 2013-2022 was selected as the sample observation period, with companies listed on China's A-share market as the study objects. The fixed-effects model was applied to investigate the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on firms' GPDI while exploring the interaction effect of firms' organizational capital. The findings indicate that AI is beneficial to GPDI in businesses. This effect is enhanced by employee and board human capital but diminished by board social capital. These results remained valid after two-stage least squares regression. This study broadens the utilization of the resource-based view and dynamic capacity theory in business implementation. Furthermore, it extends the resulting study of AI and provides a digital enhancement pathway for corporate GPDI. This study has significant theoretical and practical implications.

    Abstract Improving agricultural total factor productivity is crucial for comprehensive rural revitalization and building a strong agricultural nation. Digital inclusive finance amalgamates the benefits of digital technology and inclusive finance, mitigating financial exclusion in agricultural production. It fosters rural revitalization and the modernization of agriculture by bolstering farmers' innovation, entrepreneurship, and agricultural technology advancements. Consequently, it significantly enhances overall agricultural total factor productivity. This study uses panel data from 2011 to 2020 to empirically investigate the impact and mechanism of digital inclusive finance on agricultural total factor productivity in Zhejiang Province, China. The research results show that digital inclusive finance significantly enhances agricultural total factor productivity in Zhejiang Province, which holds true even after a series of robustness tests. Analysis of the mechanism reveals that the integrated development of rural industries plays a crucial mediating role in empowering agricultural total factor productivity through digital inclusive finance. Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis indicates that the positive effect of digital inclusive finance on agricultural total factor productivity is more pronounced in the northeastern region of Zhejiang Province and in areas ranked in the second tier of agricultural development. Therefore, we recommend comprehensively enhancing the development of digital inclusive finance in rural areas, fostering a financial ecosystem that integrates rural industries, promoting the coordinated development of digital inclusive finance in different regions, and comprehensively improving agricultural total factor productivity.

    Abstract In recent decades, severe droughts have affected many river basins in Africa with causing environmental and social damage. Prioritizing adaptation measurement requires drought evaluation over large river basins. In this paper, we provide a more reliable droughts evaluation over the major river basins in Africa (i.e., Nile, Congo, Niger, Zambezi, and Orange) by creating a weighted water storage deficit index (WWSDI) with considering each component role of Terrestrial Water Storage (TWS) on the drought signal. The WWSDI results showed that the most severe droughts were occurred in 2006, 2012, 2006, 2006, and 2003 in the Nile, Congo, Niger, Zambezi, and Orange basins, respectively. The most prolonged drought of 84 months was observed over the Niger basin. A significant wetting tendency was detected over the Nile, Niger, Zambezi, and Orange basins, while a mild trend was observed in the Congo basin.
