    Abstract The relationship between foreign exchange rates and crude oil prices holds significant importance in comprehending the dynamics of oil markets and their implications for diverse economies. This study utilizes the time-varying copula to examine the interrelationships between foreign exchange rates (FX) and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil prices, with a focus on time-varying tail dependence and time-varying linear correlation. We found that the tail dependence between foreign exchange rates (FX) and WTI crude oil prices is higher for oil-exporting countries compared to oil-importing countries. Moreover, the COVID-19 pandemic has further amplified the tail dependence for oil-exporting countries while simultaneously increasing the correlation of FXs–WTI for oil-importing countries. However, the 2022 Russian–Ukrainian conflict has exerted a significant receding effect on both the tail dependence and linear correlation of FXs–WTI, reaching or even surpassing levels comparable to those witnessed during the 2008 financial crisis. These results facilitate policymakers, investors, and market participants in making well-informed decisions and developing effective risk management strategies.

    Abstract Abstract In patients with kidney disease, the presence of monoclonal gammopathy necessitates the exploration of potential causal relationships. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to address this concern by developing a nomogram model for the early diagnosis of monoclonal gammopathy of renal significance (MGRS). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to identify risk factors for MGRS. Verification and evaluation of the nomogram model's differentiation, calibration, and clinical value were conducted using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis. The study encompassed 347 patients who underwent kidney biopsy, among whom 116 patients (33.4%) were diagnosed with MGRS and 231 (66.6%) with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance. Monoclonal Ig-related amyloidosis (n = 86) and membranous nephropathy (n = 86) was the most common renal pathological type in each group. Notably, older age, abnormal serum-free light chain ratio, and the absence of microscopic hematuria were identified as independent prognostic factors for MGRS. The areas under the ROC curves for the training and verification sets were 0.848 and 0.880, respectively. In conclusion, the nomogram model demonstrated high accuracy and clinical applicability for diagnosing MGRS, potentially serving as a valuable tool for noninvasive early MGRS diagnosis.

    Abstract Objective. Vulnerable plaque is considered to be the cause of most clinical coronary arteries, and linear cytokines are an important factor causing plaque instability. Early prediction of vulnerable plaque is of great significance in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Methods. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used to simulate the hemodynamics around plaques, and the serum biochemical markers in 224 patients with low-risk acute coronary syndrome (ACS) were analyzed. Vulnerable plaques were predicted according to the distribution of biochemical markers in serum. Results. CFD can accurately capture the hemodynamic characteristics around the plaque. The patient’s age, history of hyperlipidemia, apolipoprotein B (apoB), adiponectin (ADP), and sE-Selection were risk factors for vulnerable plaque. Area under curve (AUC) values corresponding to the five biochemical markers were 0.601, 0.523, 0.562, 0.519, 0.539, and the AUC value after the combination of the five indicators was 0.826. Conclusion. The combination of multiple biochemical markers to predict vulnerable plaque was of high diagnostic value, and this method was convenient and noninvasive, which was worthy of clinical promotion.

    Abstract This study was performed to develop and validate a predictive model for the risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) inpatients with diabetic nephropathy (DN) confirmed by renal biopsy. We conducted a retrospective study with 968 patients with T2DM who underwentrenal biopsy for the pathological confirmation of DNat the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from February 2012 to January 2015; the patients were followed until December 2018. The outcome was defined as a fatal or nonfatal ESRD event (peritoneal dialysis or hemodialysis for ESRD, renal transplantation, or death due to chronic renal failure or ESRD). The dataset was randomly split into development (75%) and validation (25%) cohorts. We used stepwise multivariablelogistic regression to identify baseline predictors for model development. The model’s performance in the two cohorts, including discrimination and calibration, was evaluated by the C-statistic and the P value of the Hosmer-Lemeshow test. During the 3-year follow-up period, there were 225 outcome events (47.1%) during follow-up. Outcomes occurred in 187 patients (52.2%) in the derivation cohort and 38 patients (31.7%) in the validation cohort. The variables selected in the final multivariable logistic regression after backward selection were pathological grade, Log Urinary Albumin-to-creatinine ratio (Log ACR), cystatin C, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP). 4 prediction models were created in a derivation cohort of 478 patients: a clinical model that included cystatin C, eGFR, BNP, Log ACR; a clinical-pathological model and a clinical-medication model, respectively, also contained pathological grade and renin-angiotensin system blocker (RASB) use; and a full model that also contained the pathological grade, RASB use and age.     Abstract In this paper, we present a novel form of a partially coherent beam characterized by classical entanglement in higher dimensions. We coin the term "twisted vector vortex (TVV) beam" to describe this phenomenon. Similar to multi-partite quantum entangled states in higher dimensions, the partially coherent twisted vector vortex beam possesses distinct properties such as non-uniform polarization, vortex phase, and twist phase. Through experiments, we offer empirical evidence for these three degrees-of-freedom in the light field. The results demonstrate that the state of the light is inseparable in terms of polarization and orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes. Additionally, the twist phase introduces an additional dimension in controlling the vector vortex beam. This research reveals the possibility of new controlling dimensions in classical entanglement through the chirality of coherence within partially coherent light. Consequently, this opens up new avenues for the utilization of partially coherent light in both classical and quantum domains.

    Abstract Background: The risk of developing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is unknown for subjects with both gallstones and renal stones, nor is it known whether there is a difference in the risk between gallstones and renal stones. This study aimed to determine the risk relationship between gallstones and renal stones and the risk of ASCVD in a male population. Methods: We recruited 6371 eligible males aged 40 to 79 years old who did not have a documented ASCVD history. The ten-year ASCVD risk was calculated using the pooled cohort equations developed by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Heart Association (AHA). The ASCVD risk score was classified as a low risk (<7.5%), an intermediate risk (7.5% to 19.9%), or a high risk (≥20%). The diagnosis of gallstones and renal stones was established based on the results of abdominal sonography. Results: Both gallstones and renal stones were associated with a high level of intermediate risk (OR = 3.21, 95% CI = 1.89–5.49, p < 0.001) and high risk (OR = 3.01, 95% CI = 1.48–6.12, p < 0.001), compared to individuals with no stones at all, after adjusting for the effects of other clinical variables. The possession of gallstones was associated with a higher level of high ASCVD risk (OR = 1.84, 95% CI = 1.31–2.59, p < 0.05) than that of renal stones. Conclusions: The ASCVD risk was higher for males with gallstones than for those with renal stones. Men with both types of stones faced a risk of ASCVD that was three times higher than that of men without stones.

    Abstract We proposed an effective approach to enlarge the slow light bandwidth and normalized-delay-bandwidth product in an optimized moiré lattice-based photonic crystal waveguide that exhibits intrinsic mid-band characteristics. A flatband corresponding to a nearly constant group index of 34 over a wide bandwidth of 82 nm centered at 1550 nm with near-zero group velocity dispersion was achieved. A large normalized-delay-bandwidth product of 0.5712 with a relative dispersion of 0.114%/µm was obtained, which is a significant improvement if compared with previous results. Our results indicate that the photonic moiré lattice waveguide could advance slow light applications.

    Abstract The relationship between the morning blood pressure surge (MBPS) and cardiovascular risk is inconclusive. Previous studies have not taken into consideration dipping status in examining the MBPS and its associated factors. The aim was to examine factors associated with the MBPS in dippers and non-dippers. The MBPS was calculated by data obtained from ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, using the definition of sleep-trough morning surge. Dipping systolic blood pressure (DipSBP) was defined as [1 - (SBPsleeping/SBPawake)] × 100%.
