Abstract Abstract After the outbreak of COVID-19, unlike other countries in the world, China has always taken strict prevention and control measures, and even formed a trend of excessive epidemic prevention. Influenced by traditional culture, Chinese students’ willingness to study abroad has been greatly reduced, but long-term strict prevention will also lead to the public weariness of the epidemic. Therefore, our research group has formed a new “push–pull” theoretical analysis framework, carried out three rounds of the same volume investigation in the early (2020), middle (2021), and late (2022) stages of the epidemic, and 12,248 students from more than 270 universities in mainland China were investigated. Through tracking and investigating the changes in the willingness of Chinese students to study abroad at different stages of the epidemic, this study fills the gap in existing research that has not yet conducted a dynamic survey on the willingness of Chinese students to study abroad because of the epidemic. The results show that COVID-19 profoundly reversed the four influencing factors: study abroad pull, study abroad push, domestic pull, and domestic push. The epidemic and related factors have become new components of push–pull factors influencing Chinese students studying abroad. Under the government’s guidance of strict epidemic prevention measures, COVID-19 has dramatically reduced the willingness of Chinese students to study abroad, and effectively changed the preference for their studying destinations, which is related to national political ideology. However, under the excessive epidemic prevention, Chinese college students’ willingness to study abroad rebounded as the public’s acceptance of the epidemic increased in the latest period. This study has added new factors to the push–pull theory, providing inspiration for the advancement of the push–pull theory with the times. It also provides deeper thinking on the new pattern of talent mobility faced by different countries.

Abstract Eye-tracking technology brings a different human-computer interaction experience to users because of its intuitive, natural, and hands-free operation characteristics. Avoiding the Midas touch problem and improving the accuracy of interaction are among the main goals of the research and development of eye-control systems. This study reviews the methods and limitations of research on avoiding the Midas touch problem. For typical control clicking operations with low fault tolerance, such as mode switching and state selection in an eye-control system, this study proposes Magilock, a more reliable control triggering method with a high success rate in multi-channel eye-control systems. Magilock adds a control pre-locked mechanism between the two interactive steps of eye-control channel positioning control and other interactive channel triggering controls in the multi-channel eye-control system. This effectively avoids incorrect control triggering caused by multi-channel coordination disorder and gaze-point drift. This study also conducted ergonomic experiments to explore the lock and unlock times of the control pre-locked mechanism in Magilock. Taking into account the experimental data and subjective evaluation of the participants, we recommend setting the lock time and the unlock time of Magilock to 200 ms.

Abstract Due to the inherent periodicity of the angle, the direction of the object detected by the current rotating object detection algorithm is fuzzy. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a rotating object direction estimation method based on a neural network, which determines the unique direction of the object by predicting the direction vector of the object. Firstly, we use the two components (sin <semantics> θ </semantics> , cos <semantics> θ </semantics> ) of the direction vector and the length and width parameters of the object to express the object model. Secondly, we construct a neural network model to predict the parameters used to express the object model. However, there is a constraint that the sum of the squares of the two components of the direction vector of the object is equal to 1. Because each output element of the neural network is independent, it is difficult to learn the constrained data between such neurons. Therefore, the function transformation model is designed, and the network transformation layer is added. Finally, affine transformation is used to transform the object parameters and carry out regression calculation, so as to detect the object and determine the direction of the object at the same time. This paper uses three sets of data to carry out the experiment, which are DOTA 1.5, HRSC, and UCAS-AOD data sets. It can be seen from the experimental results that for the object with correct ground truth, the proposed method can not only locate the object but also estimate the direction of the object accurately.

Abstract Background: Heart rate (HR) abnormalities are common in critically ill patients, but the significance of HR fluctuation in sepsis remains unclear. We aimed to assess the association of HR fluctuation with intensive care unit (ICU) mortality, hospital mortality, and 28-day mortality in patients with sepsis and identify the cutoff value of HR fluctuation associated with the lowest risk of death. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the medical information mart for the intensive care IV database. HR fluctuation, defined as the difference between maximum and minimum HR within the first 24 h of ICU admission, was analyzed for its association with outcomes using restricted cubic spline and multivariable Cox regression models. Results: Among 24,419 eligible patients with sepsis, HR fluctuation showed a J-shaped association with ICU mortality, hospital mortality, and 28-day mortality. The high HR fluctuation group (≥ 35 bpm) had a significantly increased risk of ICU mortality ([hazard ratio, 95% confidence interval] 1.12,1.02–1.22, P = 0.013), hospital mortality (1.10,1.02–1.19, P = 0.013), and 28-day mortality (1.11,1.03–1.20, P = 0.007) compared to the control group (HR fluctuation 25–34 bpm). The low HR fluctuation group (< 25 bpm) showed no significant difference in the risk of mortality compared to the control group. Conclusions: Our large-sample study suggests that early high HR fluctuation is indicative of poor prognosis in critically ill patients with sepsis. Early HR fluctuation may serve as a readily available “high-risk alert system” influencing therapeutic decision-making.

Abstract Standardized routine operation management (SROM) has been widely accepted and applied by kinds of enterprises and played a key supporting role. With full use of the emerging knowledge-based smart management technology, SROM will further increase comprehensive efficiency and save human resources greatly at the same time, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Hence, we propose a systematic knowledge-based smart management method to transfer SROM activities from human operations to automatic response by means of knowledge explicitation, organization, sharing and reusing, which can be further achieved by employing knowledge graph. We took a typical SROM instance, ISO 9000 implementation management, as an example to validate the transformation from human activities to knowledge graph-based automatic operation. We firstly analyzed characteristics of domain knowledge and constructed an ontology model according to the knowledge stability. Secondly, a hybrid knowledge graph construction and dynamic updating framework together with related algorithms were designed by deliberately integrating semantic similarity calculation and natural language processing. Thirdly, we developed a question-answering mechanism and reasoning system based on the ISO 9000 implementation knowledge graph to support automatic decision and feedback for ISO 9000 routine operation management including knowledge learning and processes auditing. Finally, the practicability and effectiveness of SROM knowledge graph has been validated in a SME in China, realizing the application of question-answering, job responsibility recommendation, conflict detection, semantic detection, multidimensional statistical analysis. The proposed method can also be generalized to support auxiliary optimization decision, vertical risk control, operation mode analysis, optimization model improvement experience and so on.

Abstract Underground goaves were left in many mining areas due to the continuous exploitation of coal resources. These mining areas seriously affect the production safety of the mines and the safety of life and property of the surrounding residents. Enormous safety hazards will be generated if the goaf range is not accurately controlled. In this study, we proposed a method for the detection of goaves in coal mines with a complex terrain by combining controlled source audio-frequency magnetotellurics (CSAMT) and an activated-carbon method for radon measurement. The disadvantage of failing to interpret goaf depth for the activated-carbon method for radon measurement was compensated by the advantage of the capability of goaf-depth sounding for CSAMT. Subsequently, the reference for CSAMT data was provided by the immunity of the activated-carbon method for radon measurement to the influences of terrain, earth electricity, and EMF. On this basis, the proposed method was employed to detect the goaf of Houjiagou Coal Mine in Liulin County, China, and obtained reliable detection results. The feasibility of the comprehensive geophysical prospecting method in the complex terrain was verified and it provides a new reference for the detection method of goaves with other conditions.

Abstract In an attempt to uncover the international affiliations impacting the Chinese energy sector, this study applies the method of Curriculum Vitae Analysis (CV Analysis) to explore the overseas background of Chinese returnee energy scientists. The investigation focuses on a representative group of scientists hailing from China's distinguished "985" project research universities. From the available online CVs, we gathered data and identified the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom as the primary host countries that facilitate the growth and learning of these energy scientists. We also noted a concurrent surge in scientists return to China after acquiring academic and professional experience in prestigious global universities. This study thereby illuminates the evolving patterns of Chinese energy scientists' global mobility and return migration.

Abstract Abstract Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) was an important biomarker for the development and prognosis of many diseases. Numerous studies had demonstrated that BUN had a strong relationship with long-term mortality, survival and the prevalence of some diseases. The diagnosis and treatment, prognosis and long-term survival rate of cancer were the focus of clinical research at present. However, the relationship between BUN level and cancer prevalence was not clear. To investigate the relationship between BUN level and cancer prevalence, we performed a statistical analysis of population data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. The results of the study showed that BUN level were positively correlated with cancer prevalence, and the correlation was more pronounced in breast cancer.
