Abstract Image interpolation is a critical step in panoramic image unwrapping studies. Information calculated in the Cartesian coordinates, although broadly applied, applies to operation between rectangles that will destroy the compressed depth information. The polar coordinates, in contrast, can store depth information by handing between rectangle and circle to obtain more true images. A fan-ring interpolation based on the polar coordinates is proposed for unwrapping panoramic images in this study through replanning the pixel search path in the panorama, and is then supported by redefining third-order interpolation. We validate our method on synthetic and practical images. Compared with competitor models, the unwrapping image obtained from the fan-ring interpolation can provide better quality in subjective and objective evaluation with guaranteed accuracy.

Abstract Most of the existing synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image superpixel generation methods are designed based on the raw SAR images or artificially designed features. However, such methods have the following limitations: (1) SAR images are severely affected by speckle noise, resulting in unstable pixel distance estimation. (2) Artificially designed features cannot be well-adapted to complex SAR image scenes, such as the building regions. Aiming to overcome these shortcomings, we propose a multitask learning-based superpixel generation network (ML-SGN) for SAR images. ML-SGN firstly utilizes a multitask feature extractor to extract deep features, and constructs a high-dimensional feature space containing intensity information, deep semantic informantion, and spatial information. Then, we define an effective pixel distance measure based on the high-dimensional feature space. In addition, we design a differentiable soft assignment operation instead of the non-differentiable nearest neighbor operation, so that the differentiable Simple Linear Iterative Clustering (SLIC) and multitask feature extractor can be combined into an end-to-end superpixel generation network. Comprehensive evaluations are performed on two real SAR images with different bands, which demonstrate that our proposed method outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract In this paper, a rhodamine derivative was synthesized as a probe for Hg(II) detection. Its spectral response and sensing mechanism towards Hg(II) were discussed carefully. It was found that its absorption and emission were increased by Hg(II), via a direct bonding stoichiometry of 1:1. Its association constant was determined with absorption titration as 2.59 × 10

Abstract Background: Identifying factors associated with Quality of Life (QoL) of elderly people with dementia could contribute to finding pathways to improve QoL for elderly people in dementia.
Aim: This paper systematically reviews all possible factors that influence QoL of elderly people with dementia, identifies how these factors are different by different stages of dementia and living settings, and explores how the influencing factors could be perceive differently by elderly people with dementia, family members, and caregivers.
Method: PubMed, PsycINFO, Web of Science and DelphiS searches from 2000 to 2015 and hand searches of publication lists, reference lists and citations were used to identify primary studies on 'quality of life' and 'dementia' elderly people.
Results: The results suggest that there are a complex variety of factors influencing QoL of elderly people with dementia, and the factors cover demographic, physical, psychological, social, and religious aspects. And the factors influencing QoL of elderly people with dementia are different in different living settings (care institutions and communities) as well as different people's perspectives (elderly people with dementia, family members and care staff). Environmental factors and quality of care are important for elderly people in care institutions; while religious seem to only affect QoL of those living in communities. However, this review fails to comprehensively identify unique or common factors associated QoL in dementia across three stages. Further study should pay more attention to comparing factors associated with QoL in dementia across three stages of dementia.
