Abstract Short sprints are most frequently evaluated and modeled using timing gates. Flying start distance is often recommended to avoid premature timing system triggering by lifting knees or swinging arms. This results in timing system initiation not being aligned with the initial force application, which yields bias in estimated short sprint parameters. This simulation study aims to explore the effects of the flying start distance on bias and sensitivity to detect changes in short sprint parameters using three models: the contemporary No Correction model and two proposed Estimated time correction (Estimated TC), and Estimated flying distance (Estimated FD) models. In conclusion, both the Estimated TC and Estimated FD models provided more precise parameter estimates, but surprisingly, the No correction model provided higher sensitivity for specific parameter changes. Besides standardizing the sprint starting technique for the short sprint performance monitoring, practitioners are recommended to utilize and track the results of all three models.

Abstract In times of crisis, such as public health emergency, military conflict or natural disaster, health systems face immense pressures. Large-scale crises continue to appear at irregular intervals and healthcare facilities should be prepared to react quickly and flexibly to the increased need for treatment and care. This paper aims to outline key concepts related to healthcare architecture during a mass-scale crisis, discuss challenges, and suggest solutions. Although the field lacks robust research evidence, lessons learned from past and ongoing events clearly indicate that advance planning is essential for effective crisis response. The crisis response has three guiding principles -adaptability, flexibility, and creativity. The interventions can focus on adapting existing healthcare facilities, building new units, and repurposing civil facilities for hospitals. A wide range of building typologies can be utilised, including modular containers, tents, lightweight structures, and repurposing civil buildings and public spaces. These interventions must be quick, economic, durable, and easily deployable. Temporary facilities must ensure an effective spatial platform for patients and staff, establish links with existing services, and consider post-crisis life of interventions. While these principles can be considered for any type of healthcare facility and any type of crisis, end-results will depend on baseline infrastructure and available resources.

Abstract This paper analyses area endangered by the process of landslides is in the municipality of Sokobanja. The process of landslides is very important from the aspect of environmental protection, considering that it can occur both naturally and under the influence of anthropogenic factors. For the purposes of this analysis data about geological structure, relief characteristics of the terrain (slope, aspect and terrain curvature), distance from rivers, land cover and values of the bare soil index were processed in the GIS environment. The Probability Method (PM) and the Landslide Susceptibility Index (LSI) were used to calculate the predisposition in relation to existing landslides in the study area. The obtained results indicate a high degree of reliability of these statistical methods for landslide prediction.

Abstract The onset of the Covid pandemic in 2020 changed the approach to work, research, and study. This period has been a wake-up call for public administrations, the private sector, and the academic community, to digitise their data. In Italy, digital and information technologies for the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, which were an imperative for more than a decade, have been accelerated. This paper aims to collect and to process openly available data on patrimony from OpenStreetMap and the Lombardian Geoportal. The study is divided into two phases: a simple statistical analysis of cultural heritage in Monza is obtained, and the results are presented graphically. Firstly, built-in tools and Python Console of QGIS are evaluated, to filter attributes and add geometrical values to the downloaded material. Secondly, plug-in DataPlotly and an online coding application named Replit are assessed. The results are presented and compared in terms of their flexibility, quality of visual representation, customisation, and simplicity of use. Tools developed through and for QGIS are easy to use and available to everyone. Additionally, coding applications can be integrated for more refined results. This approach fosters interdisciplinarity, bridges the gap between professionals and non-expert users of GIS, and opens a range of opportunities for future collaborations. The citizen, as a mapper, can be involved in the administrative decision-making process, contributing with data collected in situ. Collaboration between these two sides can potentially produce the better for evaluating the contemporary built environment and its undividable part of cultural heritage.

Abstract Three Greek letters by the Holy Roman emperor Frederick II Hohenstaufen to the Eastern Roman emperor Ioannes III Batatzes, dating from the year 1250, cast light on the Laskarid involvement in Italian politics outside of the Balkan Peninsula, the traditional sphere of Byzantine influence. In two of the letters, the Holy Roman Emperor informs his son-in-law and ally Ioannes III about the war he is waging against the papal forces in Italy; in the third, Frederick II openly appeals to his Byzantine counterpart not to engage in unionist negotiations with the Holy See. Examining the content of these three letters, I suggest, helps us to redefine the role that the Laskarid polity played in the wider Mediterranean world of the mid-13th century. In this paper, I focus on the Italian case in order to illustrate that the Laskarid Roman Empire was an active political agent that sought to influence the politics of polities well outside its assumed political sphere of interest. The Italian example allows us to understand that the Byzantine Empire of Ioannes III Batatzes and his successors had enough vigor and resilience from the 1240s to the 1280s to project an image of itself as a dominant power invested in determining international affairs throughout Christendom.
