Abstract Introduction/Objective. Тo ensure that all patients receive the best possible anesthetic care, it is essential to continuously evaluate our practices and strive for improvement. The objective of this study was to internally assess the anesthesia services provided during the peripartum period. Methods. The Anesthesiology Department of Leskovac General Hospital, Serbia (LGH) aimed to evaluate patient satisfaction with spinal anesthesia (SA) for Cesarean delivery (CD) using a questionnaire consisting of four open-ended questions. Following Institutional Review Board approval, an institutional-based survey was conducted from August 2021 to July 2022. During the study period, 624 (40.6%) of the total 1535 deliveries in LGH were CDs, with 311 (49.8%) of them performed under SA. Of the patients who underwent CD under SA, 87 agreed to anonymously complete the questionnaire. Results. Although patients had sufficient space to provide detailed responses, the majority of participants opted for brief answers, often limited to “yes” or “no”. Of the surveyed participants, 78% were informed about SA for CD before delivery, and 96.6% expressed satisfaction with the information provided during the preoperative anesthesiologist’s visit. Additionally, the majority of participants (94.3%) reported satisfaction with the postoperative analgesia they received. Conclusion. Our patients expressed high levels of satisfaction with the preoperative anesthesiologist’s visit and the SA provided for CD. However, there is a need to improve antenatal education for expectant mothers in the field of anesthesia. Conducting a new and more detailed survey would be necessary to further explore the influence of patient education and socio-economic status on patient satisfaction.

Abstract Introduction/Objective. Spinal anesthesia is often used for hip endoprosthesis surgery. Significant surgical stress response consisting of hormonal, metabolic and inflammatory changes can be initiated by the hip replacement surgery. Intrathecal opioids, as adjuvants to local anesthetics, make spinal block sufficient even with lower doses of the local anesthetics, and the incidence of the side effects reduce to minimum. Methods. This study included 162 patients of either sex, American Society of Anesthesiology classification (ASA) 1–2, scheduled for total hip arthroplasty. The patients had spinal anesthesia with 10 mg of 0.5% bupivacaine with 20 μg (Group I), or 25 μg (Group II) or 30 μg fentanyl intrathecally (Group III). Results. Mean time to achieve maximum motor and sensory blockade was with no significant difference among the groups. Time of motor block duration was shorter in the Group III. Four hours after the operation, patients in the Group I had significantly higher cortisol serum levels. Blood glucose levels were with no significant difference among the groups. Levels of CRP increased remarkably postoperatively in the Group I. Incidence of hypotension, bradycardia, nausea and vomiting was significantly higher in the Group III. Pruritus and shevering were not recorded among the groups. The first time an analgetic was needed postoperatively was the longest in the Group III. Conclusion. The dose of 10 mg of bupivacaine combined with 25 μg fentanyl was the optimal option to achieve hemodynamic stability, sufficient sensory and motor blockade, and reduce the stress response and incidence of the opioids side effects such as vomiting, nausea, pruritus etc.

Abstract Introduction/Objective. The main aim of the paper is to develop a foundation for creating internet social marketing strategy in preventive health care, through research and campaign for vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV). The aim of the study was to introduce a strategic approach of social marketing on social networks, for vaccination against HPV campaign in Serbia. Methods. Quantitative research was conducted through the internet in December of 2016, using the survey method. Participants in the study were parents whose children were candidates for the vaccination. Results. The research has shown that nearly one third of respondents do not know what HPV is, and about the same number of respondents know that HPV causes cancer. In addition, only 14.5% of respondents know that HPV is the most common transmitted disease in the world. With adequate awareness of safety, 97% of respondents would decide to vaccinate their children. Only 39% of parents could afford the vaccination, although opinion change is caused by the information about the price of the HPV vaccine. Consequently, 97.5% of the respondents would opt for vaccination in the case that it is free. Conclusion. Based on the results, and compared with best practices of other countries, we provided a marketing strategy via social networks. The campaign focuses on the raising awareness of the need for HPV vaccination and cancer prevention, including disseminating information to the target population, through social networks.

Abstract Introduction/Objective. Frostbite is a cold-induced injury of the tissue caused by the freezing of intraand extracellular water, and characterized by thrombosis and ischemic necrosis. Although individual, socioeconomic, and environmental factors are all considered fundamental determinants of human health in general, their role in the occurrence of frostbite remains largely unknown. The aim of this study was to examine the associations among these factors and frostbite for patients in Belgrade, Serbia. Methods. We investigated a total of 24 patients that were hospitalized and treated for frostbites at the Clinic for Burns, Plastic, and Reconstructive surgery, Clinical Center of Serbia, 2008–2017. Results. The majority (88%) of the patients were male, 58% were long-term alcohol consumers, 46% were long-term smokers, and one patient was drug addict. Of the patients, 14 (58%) had no income and depended on government support, 10 (42%) were employed in physical labor or work on the field, and three (13%) of the patients were homeless. Of the 24 frostbite patients identified, deep frostbite accounted for 18 (75%), of whom 17 (70.8%) had an operative outcome. A majority of patients (42%) sustained frostbite when the temperature was in the range of -5–0°C on the date of occurrence. Conclusion. The results of our study showed that individual, social, and environmental factors were important determinants of frostbite. Our results will contribute to existing evidence for risk factors related to frostbite and will allow for comparisons across countries where these factors have been examined.

Abstract The Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2; Tylka & Wood-Barcalow, 2015a, 2015b) is a widely used measure of positive body image within many cultures and countries; yet, cross-cultural examinations are few. The present study aimed to investigate the measurement invariance of the BAS-2 across adults from five countries: Iran, Japan, Poland, Serbia, and the U.S. The sample included 2944 participants ranging in age from 18 to 82 years. The findings provided evidence that the BAS-2's one-dimensional structure is the same in these countries. Partial metric invariance (when some but not all items contribute to a latent construct equally for groups) indicated that nine out of 10 items contributed to the latent body appreciation construct to a similar degree across the countries. When a Multiple Indicators Multiple Causes (MIMIC) model was applied with participants' age and gender as covariates, evidence of differential item functioning was found. Results suggest that both age and gender influenced body appreciation, indicating that the body appreciation factor means are different at different levels of the covariates. In conclusion, cross-culturally body appreciation may be shaped by country, language, age, and gender correlates to different degrees. In future research, measurement invariance analyses should be conducted prior to cultural group comparisons on the BAS-2.

Abstract We examined the validity of the Serbian version of the Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale (ACSS; Henderson-King and Henderson-King 2005). A total of 622 Serbian adults completed the ACSS, along with Serbian translations of measures for the discrepancy between actual body weight and ideal body weight, body appreciation, sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, and demographics. Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to compare how different ACSS models fitted the collected data. A three-factor model provided the best fit to the data relative to two- and one-factor models. The three-factor model had good internal consistency, convergent and discriminant validity, and nomological validity. The ACSS seems to be a valid instrument for use in Serbian populations. Our study will contribute towards better understanding of the acceptance of cosmetic surgery from a cross-cultural perspective.

Abstract We present a case of a severe anaphylactic reaction to diclofenac, administered as an intravenous infusion in a 45-year-old patient, during intravenous anesthesia for in vitro fertilization. During the preoperative clinical examination and obtaining of anamnestic data, the patient denied symptoms of allergies to medicines and other substances. The dominant clinical manifestations of anaphylactic reaction were: hypotension, tachycardia, angioedema, bronchospasm, and delayed awakening following anesthesia. No visible changes in the appearance of the skin, such as erythema or urticaria have been observed. Proper clinical observation and adequate intraoperative monitoring led to rapid diagnosis and significantly reduced the time interval from the onset of anaphylaxis to the beginning of treatment and reanimation procedures.
