Abstract In recent years, the escalating prevalence of elevated consumption and carbon emissions within urban operations has reached a disconcerting extent. This surge in resource depletion and environmental pollution exerts an adverse influence on the well-being of individuals, while impeding societal progress and hindering the enhancement of overall quality of life. Within the domain of urban environmental design, the integration of visual displays emerges as a superior approach to facilitate the assimilation and analysis of green and low-carbon information. However, urban environmental data usually contains multiple dimensions, so it is a problem to realize the data representation of multiple dimensions while maintaining the correlation and interactivity between data. To surmount the challenge of visualizing such intricate information, this investigation initially employs a sophisticated memory-based clustering algorithm for information extraction, accompanied by a global similarity algorithm that meticulously computes attribute component quantities within specific dimensions of the vector. Furthermore, leveraging the inherent power of Vue’s bidirectional data binding capabilities, the study adopts the esteemed MVVM (Model-View-View-Model) pattern, fostering seamless two-way interaction through the established logical relationship. As a result, the amalgamation of multidimensional visualization technology empowers comprehensive data mining through a captivating visual augmentation. Concurrently, the application of data visualization dimension control delivers tailored displays tailored to green and low-carbon scenarios within urban environmental design. Experimental results impeccably validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, substantiated by a mere 1.77% false alarm rate for data stream difference detection and a clustering difference of 1.34%. The aforementioned algorithm accentuates the efficacy of visual displays, thus engendering a profound synergy between the industrial and supply chains. Moreover, ...

Abstract Multifunctional catalysts that exhibit high catalytic performance for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), oxygen evolution reaction (OER), and oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in a single material hold great promise for broad-spectrum applications, including overall water splitting, fuel cells, and metal–air batteries. In this first-principles study, Cu3N is computationally demonstrated as a multifunctional electrocatalyst for the HER, OER, and ORR owing to the unique coordination of N and Cu atoms on the (001) surface. Cu3N exhibits better HER catalytic activity than noble Pt-based catalysts. Furthermore, its OER and ORR catalytic activity is comparable to that of commercialized unifunctional catalysts, and its 4e– pathway selectivity is high during the ORR. The catalytic performance of the ORR is significantly improved by the introduction of vacancy defects. The integration of highly efficient HER, OER, and ORR catalytic performance in earth-abundant Cu3N not only opens an avenue for developing cost-efficient omnipotent catalysts but also facilitates advances in clean and renewable energy.

Abstract Architects should consider the aesthetic experience of potential users when designing architectures. Previous studies have shown that subjective aesthetic judgment of architectures is influenced by structure features, and Western observers prefer structures that have curvilinear contours, high ceilings, and open space. The building styles, however, vary across cultures, and it remains unclear whether the preference for contours, ceiling height, and openness exist across cultures. To investigate this issue, this study analyzes the aesthetic judgment of Chinese observers, and the results demonstrate that Chinese observers also prefer high ceilings and open space. Preference for curvilinear contours, however, interacts with ceiling height and openness. Simple effect analysis reveals that Chinese observers prefer curvilinear contours only when the ceiling is low and the space is closed. In sum, these results suggest that preference for high ceilings and open space is robust for Chinese observers, but the preference for curvilinear contours is less reliable.

Abstract Background: Increasingly, different heterocyclic systems have been introduced into the steroid nucleus to significantly enhance the antitumor activities of steroid molecules. However, in this study, few literature precedents describing the pyrazine heterocyclic-condensed modification to an A-ring of steroid monomers were found, although the pyrazine group is thought to be essential for the potent anticancer activity of clinically relevant drugs and natural steroid dimers. Methods and Results: Two series of novel A-ring fused steroidal pyrazines were designed and efficiently synthesized from commercially available progesterone via key α-ketoenol intermediates. Through a cell counting kit-8 cytotoxic assay of 36 derivatives for three tumor cells, 14 compounds displayed significant antiproliferative activity compared to 5-fluorouracil, especially for human prostatic tumor cells (PC-3) in vitro. Further mechanistic studies indicated that the most active compound, 12n (IC 50 , 0.93 μM; SI, 28.71), could induce the cell apoptosis of PC-3 cells in a dose-dependent manner and cause cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase. The molecular docking study suggested that compound 12n fitted the active sites of cytochrome P450 17A1 (6CIZ) well. Conclusions: 12n might serve as a promising lead compound for the development of novel anticancer drugs. This facile ring-closing strategy may provide a novel and promising avenue for the cycloaddition reaction of the steroidal skeleton through α -ketoenol intermediates.

Abstract Climate warming would be generally influenced by the quantity and component of greenhouse gases during the carbon and nitrogen removal in constructed wetlands (CWs). In this study, the impacts of the combinations by walnut shell (organic-rich substrate improving denitrification), manganese (Mn) ore (electron-exchange substrate transferring CH4 to CO2) and activated alumina (phosphorus-adsorption substrate) on global warming potentials (GWPs) were investigated to propose a strategy for both mitigating GWPs and performing well in wastewater treatment. During hybrid CWs, the highest COD and TP removal efficiencies were respectively 89.4% and 98.1% in CWs with the substrate combination of Mn ore and activated alumina, and the highest TN removal efficiency was in CWs with walnut shell and Mn ore. The substrate combination of walnut shell and Mn ore would simultaneously strengthen the nitrification and denitrification process resulting in the lowest N2O flux in CWs. The combinations of Mn ore with walnut shell or activated alumina could significantly decrease the GWPs through promoting the conversion of CH4 to CO2 due to the better redox potential environment favorable for methanotrophs (pmoA) instead of methanogenesis (mcrA) provided by Mn ore. This study provided a feasible way to mitigate climate warming during wastewater treatment in CWs by using substrate combination of Mn ore and walnut shell.

Abstract A flagellate, rod–shaped bacterium designated strain M15 T was isolated from rice roots. Phylogenetic analysis based on the sequences of the 16S rRNA, housekeeping genes and genomes showed that the isolate belonged to the genus Rhizobium , with the highest 16S rRNA similarity to Rhizobium radiobacter LMG140 T (99.64%) and Rhizobium pusense NRCPB10 T (99.36%), respectively. The complete genome of the strain M15 T has a 59.28% G+C content, and the highest average nucleotide identity (ANI) and DNA-DNA relatedness (DDH) values were obtained with R. radiobacter LMG140 T (88.11%, 54.80%), R. pusense NRCPB10 T (86.00%, 53.00%) and R. nepotum 39/7 T (88.80%, 49.80%), respectively. Plant growth-promoting characteristics tests showed that the strain M15 T produced siderophore, 1–aminocyclopropane–1–carboxylate (ACC) deaminase and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and also produced some secondary metabolites according to the analysis of the comparative genomes. Based on the data mentioned above, we proposed that the strain M15 T represented a novel species of the genus Rhizobium , named Rhizobium oryzihabitans sp. nov. The type strain is M15 T (=JCM 32903 T = ACCC 60121 T ), and the strain M15 T can be a novel biofertilizer Rhizobium to reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers for plant growth promotion.

Abstract As aquatic animals, fishes often encounter various situations of low oxygen, and they have evolved the ability to respond to hypoxia stress. Studies of physiological and molecular responses to hypoxia stress are essential to clarify genetic mechanisms underlying hypoxia tolerance in fish. In this study, we performed acute hypoxia treatment in juvenile bighead carp ( Hypophthalmicthys nobilis ) by decreasing water O 2 from 6.5 mg/L to 0.5 mg/L in three hours. This hypoxia stress resulted in a significant increase in blood lactate and serum glucose. Comparisons of heart transcriptome among hypoxia tolerant (HT), hypoxia sensitive (HS), and normoxia control (NC) groups showed that 820, 273, and 301 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in HS vs. HT, NC vs. HS, and NC vs. HT (false discovery rate (FDR) < 0.01, Fold Change> 2), respectively. KEGG pathway enrichment showed that DEGs between HS and HT groups were mainly involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling, insulin signaling, apoptosis, tight junction and adrenergic signaling in cardiomyocytes pathways, and DEGs in MAPK signaling pathway played a key role in cardiac tolerance to hypoxia. Combined with the results of our previous cDNA-amplified fragment length polymorphism (cDNA-AFLP) analysis of hypoxia stress in this species, such genes as stbp2 , ttn , mapk , kcnh , and tnfrsf were identified in both studies, representing the significance of these DEGs in hypoxia tolerance in bighead carp. These results provide insights into the understanding of genetic modulations for fish heart coping with hypoxia stress and generate basic resources for future breeding studies of hypoxia resistance in bighead carp.

Abstract Two extremely halophilic archaeal strains, designated SB29 T and SB3 T , were isolated from the brine-seawater interface of Discovery Deep in the Red Sea. Cells of both strains were pleomorphic (irregular polyhedrals, ovals, and rods) and stained Gram-negative; colonies were pigmented pink. The sequence similarity of the 16S rRNA gene of strain SB29 T with that of its most closely related validly described species ( Hfx. sulfurifontis DSM 16227 T ) and that of strain SB3 T with its closest validly described relative ( Hfx. denitrificans ATCC 35960 T ) was 98.1% and 98.6%, respectively. The incomplete draft genomes of SB29 T and SB3 T are 3,871,125 bp and 3,904,985 bp in size, respectively, and their DNA G + C contents are 60.75% and 65.64%, respectively. The highest ANI values between the genomes of SB29 T and SB3 T and the most closely related genomes in GenBank were determined as 82.6% ( Hfx. sulfurifontis ATCC BAA-897 T , GenBank accession no. GCA_000337835.1) and 92.6% ( Haloferax denitrificans ATCC 35960 T , GenBank accession no. GCA_000337795.1), respectively. These data indicate that the two new isolates cannot be classified into any recognized species of the genus Haloferax , and, therefore, two novel species of the genus Haloferax are proposed: Haloferax profundi sp. nov. (type strain SB29 T = JCM 19567 T = CGMCC 1.14960 T ) and Haloferax marisrubri sp. nov. (type strain SB3 T = JCM 19566 T = CGMCC 1.14958 T ).

Abstract A series of novel bivalent β-carboline derivatives were designed and synthesized, and in vitro cytotoxicity, cell apoptosis, and DNA-binding affinity were evaluated. The cytotoxic results demonstrated that most bivalent β-carboline derivatives exhibited stronger cytotoxicity than the corresponding monomer against the five selected tumor cell lines (A549, SGC-7901, Hela, SMMC-7721, and MCF-7), indicating that the dimerization at the C3 position could enhance the antitumor activity of β-carbolines. Among the derivatives tested, 4B, 6i, 4D, and 6u displayed considerable cytotoxicity against A549 cell line. Furthermore, 4B, 6i, 4D, and 6u induced cell apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner, and caused cell cycle arrest at the S and G2/M phases. Moreover, the levels of cytochrome C in mitochondria, and the expressions of bcl-2 protein, decreased after treatment with β-carbolines, which indicated that 6i and 6u could induce mitochondria-mediated apoptosis. In addition, the results of UV-visible spectral, thermal denaturation, and molecular docking studies revealed that 4B, 6i, 4D, and 6u could bind to DNA mainly by intercalation.
