Abstract Knowledge transfer has become very popular in recent years, and it is either based on a one-way transfer method used with knowledge distillation or based on a two-way knowledge transfer implemented by deep mutual learning, while both of them adopt a teacher–student paradigm. A one-way based method is more simple and compact because it only involves an untrained low-capacity student and a high-capacity teacher network in the knowledge transfer process. In contrast, a two-way based method requires more training costs because it involves two or more low-cost network capacities from scratch simultaneously to obtain better accuracy results for each network. In this paper, we propose two new approaches, namely full deep distillation mutual learning (FDDML) and half deep distillation mutual learning (HDDML), and improve convolutional neural network performance. These approaches work with three losses by using variations of existing network architectures, and the experiments have been conducted on three public benchmark datasets. We test our method on some existing KT task methods, showing its performance over related methods.

Abstract Recently, human bromodomain-containing protein 2 (BRD2) has been reported as a potential drug target in host cells to combat SARS-CoV-2 as well as to treat COVID-19. In this study, we aimed to screen potential BRD2 inhibitors as anti- SARS-CoV-2 agents through computational approach. A pharmacophore model was generated with crystal structure of BRD2 in complex with RVX208 using ZINCPharmer server, and 10,842 compounds were screened from ZINC15 database against the pharmacophore model. Next, 102 compounds exhibited more affinity to BRD2 than control compound (RVX208) were screened using molecular docking. The top five hits (ZINC20417563, ZINC12322175, ZINC12391479, ZINC13098192, and ZINC20407881), which showed docking affinity to BRD2 with −10, −9.9, −9.8, −9.7 and −9.7 kcal/mol, respectively, were subjected to 100 ns molecular dynamics simulation to evaluate the stability of docked complexes and their interaction mechanisms. The appropriate stability of these complexes was displayed, and these compounds were found to be closely adhered to the binding site of the BRD2 protein based on the global dynamics analysis with RMSD, RMSF, Rg, SASA, DSSP and H-bond. The essential dynamics analysis with principal component analysis, dynamic cross-correlation matrix, and free energy landscape showed BRD2 binding of the screened compounds remained the stable conformation throughout molecular dynamics simulation. In addition, the pharmacokinetic and ADMET properties of the five compounds showed these compounds could be potential drug candidates. The findings of this study may contribute to further examinational validation and rational design of novel BRD2 inhibitors as anti-SARS-CoV-2 agents.

Abstract The dynamic characteristics of atmospheric rivers (ARs) have been researched over the western North Pacific and East Asia due to their close linkage to disastrous precipitation extremes, while very little attention has been paid to the AR features from the western Pacific to Southeast Asia. This study aims to quantify the climatology, long-term trends and variability of different AR properties from the western Pacific to Southeast Asia using an objective identification algorithm, the ERA5 reanalysis dataset and the APHRODITE precipitation dataset for the period 1951-2015. The results indicate a belt of frequent AR activities from the western Pacific to the Andaman Sea during the boreal autumn-winter season. The long-term trend analyses show a significantly increasing trend in AR frequency and an eastward shift of AR plumes. These dynamic changes contribute to the increasing trend of extreme precipitation amounts in the coastal areas surrounding the South China Sea. The intraseasonal variability of the AR associated with the Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO) shows a pronounced enhancement of AR activity in the MJO phase-2 to phase-3 due to the steeper gradient of low-level geopotential height between the Northwestern Pacific and the tropical Indian Ocean. The modulation is partly explained by the enhanced MJO convection and the adiabatic heating in the vicinity of the trough of the 200-500 hPa geopotential thickness of the region. This study shows that ARs are important mechanisms behind the climatology, trends and variability of the regional precipitation in Southeast Asia. This study implies that more attention is required toward the dynamics of these tropical weather systems, particularly for their interactions with other synoptic processes and their response to future climate warming.

Abstract Directly recovering ammonia from waste streams is a sustainable approach for ammonia management since it saves energy from both the Haber-Bosch process, the major industrial method for ammonia synthesis, and wastewater treatment. Membrane distillation (MD), an evaporation-based membrane separation process, has been employed to recover ammonia from ammonia-rich wastewater due to the high volatility of ammonia. In this study, the photothermal effect is incorporated into MD to enhance the ammonia recovery from ammonia-rich wastewater. Carbon black particles are coated on the membrane surface to increase its absorption of solar irradiation at the solution-membrane interface and facilitate the ammonia transport across the membrane. We demonstrate that the system can recover ammonia at a maximum ammonia flux of 4.52 g-N·m−2·h−1 with a solar intensity of 1.7 kW·m−2. The estimated mass transfer coefficient of carbon black coated membrane is 2.67 × 10−2 m·h−1 with solar irradiation, enhanced by 30.8% when compared to that in a pristine membrane. We also confirm that the improvement of ammonia flux by photothermal effect is equivalent to heating the feed solution by 20–30 °C. Our study demonstrates a promising pathway for utilizing solar energy by photothermal effects to enhance MD for ammonia recovery from ammonia-rich wastewater.

Abstract Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of combination immunochemotherapy regimens for the treatment of recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC).Design Meta-analysis and systematic review.Data sources PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane library and the Clinicaltrials.gov clinical trials registry were searched up to 14 March 2022.Eligibility criteria for selecting studies We included randomised controlled trials that compared combination immunochemotherapy with conventional chemotherapy for R/M HNSCC. Primary outcomes of interest were overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR) and adverse effects (AEs).Data extraction and synthesis Two reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of the included studies. The HR and its 95% CI were used as the effect analysis statistic for survival analysis, while the OR and its 95% CI were used as the effect analysis statistic for dichotomous variables. These statistics were extracted by the reviewers and aggregated using a fixed-effects model to synthesise the data. Results A total of 1214 relevant papers were obtained after the initial search, and five papers that met the inclusion criteria were included; these studies included a total of 1856 patients with R/M HNSCC. Meta-analysis showed that the OS and PFS of patients with R/M HNSCC in the combination immunochemotherapy group were significantly longer than those in the conventional chemotherapy group (HR=0.84; 95% CI 0.76, 0.94; p=0.002; HR=0.67; 95% CI 0.61, 0.75; p<0.0001), and the ORR was significantly higher (OR=1.90; 95% CI 1.54, 2.34; p<0.00001). The analysis of AEs showed that there was no significant difference in the overall incidence rate of AEs between two groups (OR=0.80; 95% CI 0.18, 3.58; p=0.77), but the rate of grade III and IV AEs was significantly higher in patients in the combination immunochemotherapy group (OR=1.39; 95% CI 1.12, 1.73; p=0.003).Conclusions Combination immunochemotherapy ...

Abstract To solving the problems that the existing image inpainting methods lack authenticity, do not deal with the information of missing and non-missing regions flexibly, and do not deal with the image feature information on different stages effectively, we propose an image restoration method combining Semantic Priors and Deep Attention Residual Group. The image restoration method mainly consists of Semantic Priors Network, Deep Attention Residual Group, and Full-scale Skip Connection. The Semantic Priors Network learns the complete semantic prior information of the visual elements in the missing regions and completes the missing regions with the learned semantic information. The deep attention residual set allows the generator to focus more on not only the missing regions of the image but also to learn the features of each channel adaptive. The full-scale jump joins can combine the low-level feature maps containing image boundaries with the high-level feature maps containing image textures and details to repair the missing regions. In this paper, a full comparison experiment is conducted on the CelebA-HQ and the Paris StreetView datasets, and the experimental results show that proposed method outperforms the current representative state-of-the-art image restoration methods.

Abstract The torque performance of the interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) must be further improved to satisfy the growing demand of aircraft drive application. To this end, this article focuses on the design optimization of the IPMSM structure in the aircraft drive systems to improve the torque density and reduce the torque ripple. A special fractional-slot winding and ∇-type magnetic-pole rotor topology are proposed as the optimized IPMSM structure compared with the structure of an existing motor. The simulations of the original and optimized structures at different current values reveal the variance of the torque in the average and ripple, mechanical and external characteristics, efficiency and steady-state temperature. The performance of an optimized prototype is analyzed by experimental testing, and the results show that an optimized motor has a higher torque density and lower torque ripple than the original one at the same speed and rated power, but it also has a higher temperature rise. However, the temperature rise value is acceptable in the experimental testing condition, so the validity of the design optimization method for the proposed structure is verified.

Abstract Intravenous leiomyomatosis (IVL) is a benign disease that originates in the uterus and is characterized by aggressive intravenous growth that can extend to the inferior vena cava and even involve the intracardiac cavity. This extension of the IVL into the right heart is known as intracardiac leiomyomatosis (ICL). The clinical incidence of this disease is extremely low, and the characteristics of atypical aggressive growth lead to diagnostic dilemmas. Thus, studies on this disease have profound clinical significance. Here, we report a case of intracardiac leiomyomatosis and review the relevant literature. A 46-year-old female patient presented with exertive chest tightness and shortness of breath with an onset of approximately half a month. The patient underwent uterine myomectomy in 2018 and recovered well after surgery. On preoperative echocardiography, a hypoechoic mass was detected in the right atrium, which was diagnosed as a leiomyoma. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a T2-weighted mixed high-signal mass with partial cystic changes that extended from the inferior vena cava into the right atrioventricular cavity, occupying most of the atrial cavity and was misdiagnosed as an atrial mucinous tumor. The patient underwent cardiac tumor resection, tricuspid valvuloplasty, and lower-extremity vascular exploration under general anesthesia with extracorporeal circulation. The final pathological diagnosis was ICL. This is an illustrative analysis of various aspects of the disease, including pathology, etiology, clinical symptoms, imaging diagnosis, and treatment modalities.
