Abstract	Among the many issues facing sex trafficking survivors, the trauma bonds they develop with their perpetrators are one of the most complex and least understood concerns. This community-based participatory research phenomenological study explored this phenomenon by asking: How have survivors of sex trafficking experienced healing from trauma bonding? The sample consisted of 19 female survivors who were all participants in or graduates of a human trafficking specialty docket. Three themes emerged: survivors shared that (a) building trusting and honest relationships, (b) their relationships with themselves, and (c) education all played a pivotal role in the healing they had experienced.

Abstract	While research has demonstrated a complex relationship between sex trafficking and substance use, the relationship between substance use and trauma bonding is not well understood. A trauma bond refers to an emotional attachment that can develop between victims and their abusers. This study aims to explore the relationship between substance use and trauma bonding among survivors of sex trafficking from the perspective of service providers working directly with survivors of sex trafficking. This qualitative study involved in-depth interviews with 10 participants. Purposeful sampling was employed among licensed social workers or counselors working directly with survivors of sex trafficking. Audio recordings of interviews were transcribed and coded using aspects of a grounded theory approach. Three themes emerged from the data regarding the relationship between substance use and trauma bonding among survivors of sex trafficking: substance use as a tactic, substance use as a risk factor, and substance use as a potential trauma bond. These findings support the need to treat substance use and mental health concerns concurrently among sex trafficking survivors. Additionally, these findings can inform legislators and policymakers as they consider the needs of survivors.

Abstract	There is a dearth of research on trauma bonding among victims of sex trafficking. This study aims to fill this gap by seeking to understand how service providers working with survivors of sex trafficking conceptualize and observe trauma bonding in their clients. This qualitative study involved interviews with 10 participants. Purposeful sampling was employed among licensed social workers or counselors. Two themes emerged: defining trauma bonding (with four subthemes: embracing intensity, power imbalance, distortion of love, and inescapability) and the development of trauma bonds (with three subthemes: universality, gendered, and grooming). These findings provide much-needed insight into the complexities of trauma bonding.

Abstract	The HBO show Game of Thrones is fascinating, because despite many of its plot points involving the elicitation of disgust, an emotion associated with avoidance behaviors, its viewership has only surged. We explore the relationship between disgust sensitivity and perception of scenes involving moral, sexual, and pathogen disgust in the show by providing participants with descriptions of such scenes. Participants included those who had never seen the show, those who had seen the show at least once, and those who had seen the show multiple times. We found that those who had watched the show once rated the scenes as less disgusting (overall and for moral and sexual disgust) than those who had not. We also investigated sex differences in disgust and found that women rated the scenes as more aversive than men, especially those involving moral and sexual disgust. Finally, those with more opposite sex siblings were more repulsed by the scenes, especially those involving sexual disgust. The present study adds to a long list of studies that analyses popular culture from an adaptive lens and adds to the notion that popular culture is a 'cultural remain' of the evolved human mind.

Abstract	In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19 in 2020, several countries implemented lockdown procedures to varying degrees. This article sought to examine the extent to which country-level strictness, as measured by the Government Response Stringency Index (2020), moderated the relationship between certain cultural dimensions and estimates of national innovation. Data on 84 countries were collated for Hofstede's cultural dimensions (2015), and from the Global Innovation Index (2020). Owing to the robust relationships between innovation and the dimensions of uncertainty avoidance, power distance, and individualism, these were used in moderation analyses. In general, power distance was inversely related to innovation, whereas individualism was directly related to it. Results indicated that collectivist and high power distance countries showed lower innovation, irrespective of levels of government stringency as a response to COVID-19. On the other hand, among individualistic and low power distance countries, lower innovation was associated with increased stringency (e.g., blanket restrictions on movement). Higher innovation was observed when such countries had a less severe government response. The dimension of uncertainty avoidance was not significantly associated with innovation at the country level. The implications of lockdowns on general innovation, its inputs, and outputs are discussed in the context of cultural dimensions and country-level policies.

Abstract	Purpose: Team management strategies for complex colorectal polyps are recommended by professional guidelines. Multi-disciplinary meetings are used across the UK with limited information regarding their impact. The aim of this multi-centre observational study was to assess procedures and outcomes of patients managed using these approaches. Method: This was a retrospective, observational study of patients managed by six UK sites. Information was collected regarding procedures and outcomes including length of stay, adverse events, readmissions and cancers. Results: Two thousand one hundred ninety-two complex polyps in 2109 patients were analysed with increasing referrals annually. Most presented symptomatically and the mean polyp size was 32.1 mm. Primary interventions included endoscopic therapy (75.6%), conservative management (8.3%), colonic resection (8.1%), trans-anal surgery (6.8%) or combined procedures (1.1%). The number of primary colonic resections decreased over the study period without a reciprocal increase in secondary procedures or recurrence. Secondary procedures were required in 7.8%. The median length of stay for endoscopic procedures was 0 days with 77.5% completed as day cases. Median length of stay was 5 days for colonic resections. Overall adverse event and 30-day readmission rates were 9.0% and 3.3% respectively. Malignancy was identified in 8.8%. Benign polyp recurrence occurred in 13.1% with a median follow up of 30.4 months. Screening detected lesions were more likely to undergo bowel resection. Colonic resection was associated with longer stays, higher adverse events and more cancers on final histology. Conclusion: Multi-disciplinary team management of complex polyps is safe and effective. Standardisation of organisation and quality monitoring is needed to continue positive effects on outcomes and services.

Abstract	The objective of this qualitative study was to understand Nepali female sex workers' (FSWs) condom negotiation strategies. In 2016, we conducted 30 semi-structured, in-depth interviews with street- and brothel-based FSWs residing in Kathmandu, Nepal. Participants reported that their first entry into sex work typically occurred between the ages of 17-32, and the average duration of women's involvement with sex work was 8 years. FSWs reported high knowledge and awareness of condoms, and many women had used various sexual and reproductive health services. FSWs used three types of negotiation strategies: withholding or refusing sex, providing risk information, and direct request. While some FSWs believed that these strategies were useful and successful, we found that, for some women, condom negotiation strategies were difficult to implement due to fear of abuse and threats of violence by clients. Condom negotiation was further complicated by poverty and substance abuse, and several narratives revealed the influence of gender and social norms on safe sexual practices. The findings highlight the need for improved sexual health interventions that incorporate a range of negotiation strategies and techniques (e.g., nonverbal communication and reward strategies) and aim to mitigate harm and violence against FSWs.
