Abstract Background & objectives: The affirmation about the prevalence of mosquito species at a particular place and time is very significant, not only to predict the danger of diseases or future outbreaks but also to control the vectors in time. Despite mosquitoes being medically important, the information about its faunal diversity is very scanty as far as Chandigarh in India and its nearby areas are concerned. So, this study was carried out to survey the mosquito fauna from areas in and around Chandigarh in northern India.
Methods: Detailed mosquito surveys were carried out to explore the mosquito fauna from various habitats of developed urban areas, gardens, slums and surrounding villages of Chandigarh from June 2017-November 2019 using hand nets and oral aspirators.
Results: A total of 34 mosquito species belonging to 8 genera viz; Anopheles, Aedes, Armigeres, Culex, Coquillet-tidia, Mansonia, Mimomyia and Verrallina were recorded, identified and preserved along with detailed collection data, of which eight are new records from Chandigarh.
Interpretation & conclusion: The present checklist of mosquito fauna comprising 34 species provides information on the occurrence of mosquito vectors in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas which will be beneficial for the health authorities to adopt appropriate measures in time for the control of these vectors.

Abstract Background: Orchids are widely used in floriculture as attractive cut flowers all over the world. The current paper reviews factors affecting the in vitro flowering in orchid species.
Methods: The phenomenon of in vitro flowering is advantageous as it shortens the breeding cycle, which is prolonged in the in vivo grown orchid species of commercial value. Certain genetic and biochemical mechanisms are involved at the time of onset of flowering in orchid plants. In the present endeavour, efforts have been made to initiate in vitro flowering in terrestrial and epiphytic orchid species. Various phenomenon involved during transition of vegetative shoot apex into floral axis is also reviewed.
Results: In vitro flowering was induced in Dendrobium nobile and Zeuxine strateumatica in Mitra medium supplemented with BAP at 0.5 in mgl
Conclusion: In vitro flowering can be initiated by manipulating physical and chemical stimulus in the nutrient regime. The study would be helpful in better understanding the complex process of flowering in vitro as well as ex vitro.

Abstract This review provides an overview of the barriers to the consumption of fruits and vegetables (FVs) as well as strategies to improve the intake of FVs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The importance of the consumption of FVs and its role in disease prevention are discussed briefly. Trends in the consumption of FVs in LMICs are also summarised. The WHO recommends that every individual should consume at least five servings or 400 grams of FVs per day. Epidemiological and clinical investigations have demonstrated that FVs contain numerous bioactive compounds with health-protecting activities. Despite their health benefits, the intake of FVs in LMICs remains low. Major barriers identified were socio-demographic factors, environmental conditions, individual and cultural factors, and macrosystem influences. These barriers may be lowered at the household, school, community, and national level through multi-component interventions including behaviour change communication (BCC) initiatives, nutrition education (NE), gardening initiatives, farm to institution programs (FIPs), food baskets, cash transfers, nutrition-agriculture policy and program linkages, and food-market environment-based strategies. This review has research implications due to the positive outcomes of strategies that lower such barriers and boost consumption of FVs in LMICs.

Abstract Integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills is critical for effective medical education. Simulation is crucial in bridging the gap to prepare medical professionals for high-quality patient care in a safe environment. Simulation-based teaching has become the standard practice in medical education, especially in postgraduate courses like Anaesthesia. However, undergraduate medical education and other doctoral courses are still nascent. In line with the current National Medical Commission guidelines, it is imperative to complement the existing curriculum with a simulation-based approach as early as the first year of medical school. This review focuses on the current practices related to simulation-based medical education during undergraduate and postgraduate courses, particularly on anaesthesiology. We aim to discuss different types of simulation, the advantages of integration, students' perspectives, and the role of simulation in assessment and feedback. Finally, recommendations for future advancements of simulation in medical education and the way forward will be laid.

Abstract As of mid-May 2020, it has been 5 months since the 1st case of coronavirus was detected in Malaysia. Thus far, 113 deaths have been reported. Several effective measures have been taken by the government under a partial lockdown or movement control order to contain the spread of the virus, which have led to the flattening of the curve. Abstract Enzymatic hydrolysis of proteins is considered a feasible approach to obtain more functional and nutritional products. Plant proteases (either purified or as crude extracts) have been used in dairy systems with growing interest. Specific plant proteases such as actinidin, bromelain, ficin and papain have been isolated and extensively characterised. Their application on dairy proteins can provide benefits by providing a product that is less allergenic or with improved techno-functionality. Also, benefits can include hydrolysates with reduced bitterness and obtaining of bioactive peptides with enhanced nutritional and physiological properties. This review describes the use of plant proteases in hydrolysis, application of specific proteases in dairy applications.
