Abstract Background: Skin cancer is a common malignant tumor in dermatology. A large area must be excised to ensure a negative incisal margin on huge frontotemporal skin cancer, and it is difficult to treat the wound. In the past, treatment with skin grafting and pressure dressing was easy to cause complications such as wound infections, subcutaneous effusion, skin necrosis, and contracture. Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been applied to treat huge frontotemporal skin cancer.
Case summary: Herein, we report the case of a 92-year-old woman with huge frontotemporal skin cancer. The patient presented to the surgery department complaining of ruptured bleeding and pain in a right frontal mass. The tumor was pathologically diagnosed as highly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. The patient underwent skin cancer surgery and skin grafting, after which NPWT was used. She did not experience a relapse during the three-year follow-up period.
Conclusion: NPWT is of great clinical value in the postoperative treatment of skin cancer. It is not only inexpensive but also can effectively reduce the risk of surgical effusion, infection, and flap necrosis.

Abstract A microwave radiometer onboard a geostationary satellite can provide for the continuous atmospheric sounding of rapidly evolving convective events even in the presence of clouds, which has aroused great research interest in recent decades. To approach the problem of high-spatial resolution and large-size antennas, three promising geostationary microwave (GEO-MW) solutions—geostationary microwave radiometer (GMR) with a 5 m real aperture antenna, geostationary synthetic thinned aperture radiometer (GeoSTAR) with a Y-shaped synthetic aperture array, and geostationary interferometric microwave sounder (GIMS) with a rotating circular synthetic aperture array—have been proposed. To compare the potential impact of assimilating the three GEO-MW sounders to typhoon prediction, observing system simulation experiments (OSSEs) with the simulated 50–60 GHz observing brightness temperature data were conducted using the mesoscale numerical model Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) and WRF Date Assimilation-Four dimensional variational (WRFDA-4Dvar) assimilation system for Typhoons Hagibis and Bualoi which occurred in 2019. The results show that the assimilation of the three GEO-MW instruments with 4 channels of data at 50–60 GHz could lead to general positive impacts in this study. Compared with the control experiment, for the two cases of Bualoi and Hagibis , GMR improves the average 72 h typhoon track forecast accuracy by 24% and 43%, GeoSTAR by 33% and 50%, and GIMS by 10% and 29%, respectively. Overall, the three GEO-MW instruments show considerable promise in atmospheric sounding and data assimilation. The difference among these positive impacts seems to depend on the observation error of the three potential instruments. GeoSTAR is slightly better than the other two GEO-MW sounders, which may be because it has the smallest observation error of the 4 assimilation channels. Generally, this study illustrates that the performance of these three GEO-MW sounders is potentially adequate to support assimilation into numerical ...

Abstract Accurately assessing ecological efficiency and illustrating its impact mechanism can facilitate the construction of an environmentally friendly forest park management system. In this study, we took 28 national forest parks in Liaoning from 2008 to 2017 as study objects, constructed an ecological efficiency framework with a stochastic cost function, and analyzed empirically how investment structures affect the efficiency of forest parks and their mechanism. We found that, firstly, the improvement potential of the ecological efficiency of forest parks in Liaoning was 48%. Secondly, there was a large gap in the ecological efficiency among forests, but it was decreasing over time. Thirdly, investment structure had a significant impact on the ecological efficiency of forest parks. The increase in the proportion of private capital decreased the ecological efficiency, with the marginal contribution ratio being 10.6%. Fourthly, the business category played a mediating role between the investment structure and ecological efficiency of forest parks. Investment structures negatively affected ecological efficiency by increasing the proportion of accommodation and amusement. Lastly, there was heterogeneity in how investment structures affected the ecological efficiency of forest parks, with high-class forest parks through accommodation and low-class forest parks through amusement activities.

Abstract Whilst automated analysis of immunostains in pathology research has focused predominantly on the epithelial compartment, automated analysis of stains in the stromal compartment is challenging and therefore requires time-consuming pathological input and guidance to adjust to tissue morphometry as perceived by pathologists. This study aimed to develop a robust method to automate stromal stain analyses using 2 of the commonest stromal stains (SMA and desmin) employed in clinical pathology practice as examples. An effective computational method capable of automatically assessing and quantifying tumour-associated stromal stains was developed and applied on cores of colorectal cancer tissue microarrays. The methodology combines both mathematical models and deep learning techniques with the former requiring no training data and the latter as many inputs as possible. The novel mathematical model was used to produce a digital double marker overlay allowing for fast automated digital multiplex analysis of stromal stains. The results show that deep learning methodologies in combination with mathematical modelling allow for an accurate means of quantifying stromal stains whilst also opening up new possibilities of digital multiplex analyses.

Abstract In this study, modified granular activated carbon (GAC) and immobilized cells were used to improve the biological efficiency of high-ammonia-nitrogen wastewater treatment using microorganisms. The results showed that using sodium-hydroxide-modified activated carbon (NaOH-GAC) greatly increased the immobilized numbers of the ammonia-oxidizing bacteria Alcaligenes sp. TD-94 and Paracoccus sp. TD-10. Using NaOH-GAC increased the number of immobilized cells by 63.27% over GAC. Compared with free cells, those immobilized on modified activated carbon were more effective in the removal of high ammonia nitrogen levels from wastewater. In wastewater with an ammonia nitrogen concentration of 100 mg·L −1 , the ammonia nitrogen removal efficiencies of NaOH-GAC-immobilized cells and free cells within 24 h were 100% and 4.17%, respectively. After 45 cycles, NaOH-GAC-immobilized cells maintained an ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency of 79.24%. After 70 days of storage at 4 °C, the ammonia nitrogen removal efficiency was still as high as 100%. The removal efficiencies of ammonia nitrogen (NH 4 + -N), total nitrogen (TN), and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in high-ammonia-nitrogen wastewater from petrochemical enterprises reached 99.27%, 88.39%, and 69.85%, with removal rates of 75.21, 69.43, and 1117.40 mg·L −1 ·d −1 , respectively. The findings demonstrated that NaOH-GAC improved the capacity of the biological treatment to remove ammonia nitrogen from wastewater and provide a practical option for the remediation of environmental pollution.

Abstract The two-dimensional post-transition-metal chalcogenides, particularly indium selenide (InSe), exhibit salient carrier transport properties and evince extensive interest for broad applications. A comprehensive understanding of thermal transport is indispensable for thermal management. However, theoretical predictions on thermal transport in the InSe system are found in disagreement with experimental measurements. In this work, we utilize both the Green–Kubo approach with deep potential (GK-DP), together with the phonon Boltzmann transport equation with density functional theory (BTE-DFT) to investigate the thermal conductivity ( <semantics> κ </semantics> ) of InSe monolayer. The <semantics> κ </semantics> calculated by GK-DP is 9.52 W/mK at 300 K, which is in good agreement with the experimental value, while the <semantics> κ </semantics> predicted by BTE-DFT is 13.08 W/mK. After analyzing the scattering phase space and cumulative <semantics> κ </semantics> by mode-decomposed method, we found that, due to the large energy gap between lower and upper optical branches, the exclusion of four-phonon scattering in BTE-DFT underestimates the scattering phase space of lower optical branches due to large group velocities, and thus would overestimate their contribution to <semantics> κ </semantics> . The temperature dependence of <semantics> κ </semantics> calculated by GK-DP also demonstrates the effect of higher-order phonon scattering, especially at high temperatures. Our results emphasize the significant role of four-phonon scattering in InSe monolayer, suggesting that combining molecular dynamics with machine learning potential is an accurate and efficient approach to predict thermal transport.

Abstract AbstractBackground To investigate the application value of tumor abnormal protein in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated with lung adenocarcinoma in situ.Materials and Methods A total of 140 patients having type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated with lung adenocarcinoma in situ (Group A), 160 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (Group B), and 120 healthy controls (Group C) were enrolled in the Department of Thoracic Surgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from November 2021 to December 2022.Results The total cholesterol level was higher in Group A than in Group B (p < 0.05) and Group C (p < 0.01), and it was higher in Group B than in Group C (p < 0.01). The comparison results of cholesterol level were similar to those of tumor abnormal protein, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and glycosylated hemoglobin among the three groups. The triglyceride level was higher in Group A than in Group B and Group C (both p < 0.01). Group A had a higher level of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol than Group C (p < 0.01). The fasting plasma glucose level was higher in Group A than in Group B and Group C (both, p < 0.01). These findings indicated that tumor abnormal protein, glycosylated hemoglobin, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and fasting plasma glucose were independent factors for patients having type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated with lung adenocarcinoma in situ. Conclusion Therefore, detecting tumor abnormal protein levels may help diagnose lung adenocarcinoma in situ in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract Abstract The modulation of instrumental action by conditioned Pavlovian cues is hypothesized to play a role in the emergence and maintenance of maladaptive behavior. The Pavlovian to Instrumental transfer task (PIT) is designed to examine the magnitude of the influence of cues on behavior and we aim to manipulate the motivational value of Pavlovian cues to reduce their effect on instrumental responding. To this end, we utilized a joystick-based modification of approach and avoidance propensities that has shown success in clinical populations. To examine changes in PIT, we subjected 35 healthy participants to a series of experimental procedures: (1) Instrumental training was followed by (2) Pavlovian conditioning of neutral stimuli that were associated with monetary reward or loss. (3) In a subsequent joystick task, approach and avoidance tendencies toward conditioned cues were assessed. (4) In a transfer test, the PIT effect as the impact of conditioned cues on instrumental behavior was measured. (5) The explicit knowledge of cue-reward contingencies was assessed in a forced-choice phase. (6, 7) systematic joystick training was followed by a posttest (8) the transfer task and forced-choice test were repeated. We found no effect of training on approach-avoidance propensities in the context of this proof of concept study. A higher response rate towards negative stimuli during PIT after systematic training compared to sham training was seen. On the other hand, we saw an increased PIT effect after sham training. These results contribute to the understanding of the strength of the influence of cues on instrumental behavior. Our findings further stress the importance of context, instructions and operationalization of instrumental behavior in the framework of transfer effects.

Abstract Numerous countries actively consider the human settlement environment and have implemented rural governance strategies to ameliorate the living conditions of rural dwellers. The construction of a rural human settlement environment is an important goal of China’s rural revitalization strategy and improving farmers’ well-being is a key element of China’s policies on agriculture, farmers, and villages. However, whether a rural human settlement environment enhances farmers’ well-being remains untested. By adopting the method of random stratified sampling, this study investigated 1002 farmers inside and outside six nature reserves in Liaoning, China. OLS and ordered probit regression models were used to assess the impact on the well-being and the satisfaction of farmers with their settlement environment around nature reserves from three aspects: the natural ecological environment, the hardware facility environment, and the daily governance environment. The results of this study proved that the construction of a human settlement environment can significantly boost the well-being of farmers. Moreover, the satisfaction towards the natural ecological environment, hardware facility environment, and daily governance environment exerts a substantial impact on the well-being at the significance level of 1%, with a positive sign, showing a stable enhancement role. Among them, the satisfaction with the hardware facility environment was the most essential for improving happiness, with a coefficient of 0.126. A heterogeneity analysis suggests that the positive effect of satisfaction with the human settlement environment on farmers’ well-being within nature reserves was more significant in the natural ecological environment, with a coefficient of 0.244; the hardware facility environment had the greatest positive effect on the well-being of farmers outside nature reserves, with a coefficient of 0.224; and the daily governance environment had a greater enhancing effect on the well-being of farmers both inside and outside nature ...

Abstract Geographic accessibility plays a key role in health care inequality but remains insufficiently investigated in China, primarily due to the lack of accurate, broad-coverage data on supply and demand. In this paper, we employ an innovative approach to local supply-and-demand conditions to (1) reveal the status quo of the distribution of health care provision and (2) examine whether individual households from communities with different housing prices can acquire equal and adequate quality health care services within and across 361 cities in China. Our findings support previous conclusions that quality hospitals are concentrated in cities with high administrative rankings and developmental levels. However, after accounting for the population size an "accessible" hospital serves, we discern "pro-poor" inequality in accessibility to care (denoted as GAPSD) and that GAPSD decreases along with increases in administrative rankings of cities and in community ratings. This paper is significant for both research and policy-making. Our approach successfully reveals an "unexpected" pattern of health care inequality that has not been reported before, and our findings provide a nationwide, detailed benchmark that facilitates the assessment of health and urban policies, as well as associated policy-making.
