Abstract Introduction: Routine checkup is a form of preventive medicine, it's a helpful practice to promote health in the community. Studying the prevalence of routine checkup, awareness, influencing, and preventing factors for it in our community will be a helpful tool for the health authorities to promote among individuals.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted in different locations of Riyadh using a convenience sampling technique, with sample size of 414 Saudi participants of both genders aged 36 years old and above. The data were collected through self-administered structured questionnaire with demographic variables, frequency of routine medical checkup, knowledge questions, factors that enhance or prevent individual to do routine checkup and best way to spread the awareness.
Results: Two hundred eighty-eight (69.57%) participants knew well about routine checkup and 142 (34.3%) of them do routine medical checkup. "Lack of time" and "Laziness" were reported as the 2 most common preventing factors (46% and 45.2%), respectively, and most common reason that influenced their practice was "health concern" (77.5%) followed by "worry about chronic or serious illness" (32.4%). Participants believed that social networks (eg, twitter, Facebook, etc) and media (eg, TV, radio) are most effective ways to spread awareness of it in the community (53.86% and 52.89%, respectively).
Conclusion: There was high level of knowledge on routine health checkup, but a low prevalence was observed in practice. Hence, more health initiatives should be taken for routine medical screening in the Saudi community.

Abstract Hepatitis B virus is a crucial public health problem in Pakistan. It has been classified into eight genotypes (A-H) based on genome sequence divergence. Hepatitis B virus genotypes have distinct geographical distributions. Recently genotypes of hepatitis B have received a lot of attention due to its clinical as well as therapeutic importance. In this review, we will discuss the epidemiology, clinical outcome and response to antiviral therapy for different hepatitis B virus genotypes.

Abstract Objective: To assure the accuracy and reliability of blood pressure measurement by non-invasive blood pressure monitor using Datascope Accutorr Plus™ (Paramus, NJ, USA) against mercury manometer, among adult male participants.
Method: Eighty participants from a family physician's office at a teaching hospital were recruited. One hundred and sixty measurements of blood pressure were performed according to BHS technique protocol.
Statistical analysis: Descriptive analysis was done according to the AAMI and BHS protocol guidelines. The limits of agreement between the device and the standard were plotted using the method of Bland and Altman plot.
Results: The mean difference ± SD between the Datascope Acutorr Plus™ and observer was 2.7 ± 5.2 mm Hg and 1.5 ± 3.26 mm Hg for systolic and diastolic blood pressure, respectively. Datascope Acutorr Plus™ obtained A/A grading for both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Conclusion: Datascope Accutorr Plus™ (Paramus, NJ, USA) satisfies BHS and AAMI validation protocols for both systolic and diastolic BP and may be recommended for everyday use for BP monitoring at home and in clinical use for adult population.

Abstract Objectives: To compare the days and spells of sickness absence among males versus females and Saudi nationals versus expatriate employees of King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh, and to identify the cause of sickness absence.
Methods: The cross-sectional, descriptive study comprised 3117 King Khalid University Hospital employees. Records of physician-certified sickness absence from January 1 to June 30, 2009, were obtained from the employee health clinic's register. Absence rate, frequency, duration and severity were assessed and compared between genders and nationalities, and causes were noted. SPSS version 16 and student's t test were used for statistical analyses and comparison.
Result: A total of 377 (12.1 %) employees had 416 spells of sickness absence with 639 sick-off days (mean: 1.54 +/- 0.85). The probability of sickness absence was higher among Saudi (OR=1.33) and female (OR=1.39) employees. The association of sickness absence was not found among the absentees with either gender (p= 0.335) or nationality (p = 0.086). Almost all spells of sick-off days were of short duration. Longer spells were mainly due to chicken pox which was found to be more among the expatriates. Heavy absenteeism was found only among the Saudis. The most common causes of sickness absence were acute upper respiratory infection, diseases of musculoskeletal system and the digestive system.
Conclusion: The rate, frequency and duration of absence due to sickness in the study were higher among Saudi and female employees. The rate of absence, with passage of time, has increased significantly among Saudi nationals.
