    Abstract (1) Background: Women in their middle years undergoing perimenopause encounter a range of physical and psychological alterations attributed to hormonal changes. The prominent symptoms among menopausal women are depressive symptoms and sleep-related problems. The aim of this study was to conduct a meta-analysis examining the effects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) on women going through menopause, specifically focusing on depressive symptoms and sleep problems. We analyzed studies conducted both within the country and across international settings over the last decade. (2) Methods: A search of the literature was conducted-a targeted search, exclusively considering randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that were published within the timeframe spanning from 15 June 2013 to 15 June 2023. (3) Findings: Upon reviewing nine studies that satisfied our inclusion criteria and involved a total of 923 participants, it was noted that four of these studies incorporated diverse cognitive-behavioral strategies. Among the nine studies, a total of four were included in the meta-analysis: two measured depressive symptoms, and two measured sleep quality. The combined effect size for depressive symptoms was found to be 3.55 (95% confidence interval: -5.48, -1.61;

    Abstract Background: This study was aimed to identify perception, knowledge, attitude and nursing practice toward use of physical restraints among clinical nurses.
    Methods: The research participants were 180 nurses from general hospitals located in Korea. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires regarding perception, attitude, knowledge, and nursing practice on application of physical restraints and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression.
    Results: There were significant negative relationships attitudes towards the use of physical restraints with knowledge (r = -.32, p < .001). Knowledge showed a positive correlation with nursing practice (r = .28, p < .001). Factors affecting nursing practice of clinical nurses were identified as knowledge (β = .23), education experiences on physical restraints (Yes) (β = .18), and work unit (ICU) (β = .43). The explanation power of this regression model was 22% and it was statistically significant (F = 7.45, p < .001).
    Conclusion: This study suggests that knowledge, education experiences on physical restraints, and work unit were the strongest predictor on nursing practice toward use of patient physical restraints. Therefore, developing and applying evidence-based educational intervention programs by work unit to reduce the inappropriate use of physical restraints in hospitals are required.

    Abstract Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is a well-established risk factor for the development of diabetes in individuals with prediabetes. We aimed to evaluate various adiposity and metabolic indices, including visceral adipose tissue (VAT) volume measured by CT, in individuals with prediabetes, based on their different subtypes. This retrospective study included 78 prediabetes individuals aged ≥ 20 years whose VAT volumes were evaluated by CT. Individuals were classified into prediabetes subtypes: impaired fasting glucose (IFG), impaired glucose tolerance (IGT), and combined IFG and IGT (C-IFG/IGT). We conducted a comparison of the patients' adiposity indices and their associations with one other, as well as with insulin resistance, based on the different prediabetes subtypes. Individuals with C-IFG/IGT had higher levels of visceral obesity than those with IFG or IGT. VAT volume was more strongly associated with insulin resistance than other adiposity indices, regardless of prediabetes subtypes. Additionally, VAT volume and liver attenuation index showed a significant correlation with the other indices studied across the prediabetes subtypes. CT-based measurement of VAT volume may be a valuable tool for evaluating metabolic risk factors among individuals with prediabetes.

    Abstract The main factor in the turnover of new nurses in Korea is burnout, and a high turnover rate can lead to discontinuation in the nursing profession, due to failure to adapt to the organization. This study aimed to examine the mediating influences of an exchange relationship with the preceptor on the relationship between burnout and job retention intention among new nurses in Korea.     Abstract Purpose: This study attempted to examine the influence of resilience, life satisfaction, and psychological well-being on attitude to death.
    Methods: A predictive correlational design was used. The participants were 184 nursing students from three universities of Korea. They responded to a self-report questionnaire, with items on demographics, resilience, life satisfaction, psychological well-being, and attitude to death.
    Results: The mean score for attitude to death was 2.77±0.39 (range, 1-4), and a significant difference was observed depending on age, grade, and death-related education. Attitude to death was positively correlated with death-related education, resilience, life satisfaction, and psychological well-being. Results of the hierarchical multiple regression analysis indicated that death-related education and psychological well-being were significant predictors of attitude to death, explaining 26.6% of the latter. The most important factor was psychological well-being.
    Conclusion: Although death-related education and psychological well-being are two of the most influential factors among nursing students, no more than 30.4% of this study's participants received death-related education. Death-related education is necessary to help nursing students so that they can cope positively with stressful situations by finding positive meaning. It is necessary to develop a systematic curriculum so that these students can establish a positive attitude to death.

    Abstract Zooplankton are a conduit of energy from autotrophic phytoplankton to higher trophic levels, and they can be a primary point of entry of microplastics into the aquatic food chain. Investigating how zooplankton communities are affected by microplastic pollution is thus a key step toward understanding ecosystem-level effects of these global and ubiquitous contaminants. Although the number of studies investigating the biological effects of microplastics has grown exponentially in the last decade, the majority have used controlled laboratory experiments to quantify the impacts of microplastics on individual species. Given that all organisms live in multispecies communities in nature, we used an outdoor 1130-L mesocosm experiment to investigate the effects of microplastic exposure on natural assemblages of zooplankton. We endeavored to simulate an environmentally relevant exposure scenario by manually creating approximately 270 000 0.015 × 1- to 1.5-mm polyester fibers and inoculating mesocosms with zero, low (10 particles/L), and high (50 particles/L) concentrations. We recorded zooplankton abundance and community composition three times throughout the 12-week study. We found no effect of microplastics on zooplankton abundance, Shannon diversity, or Pielou's evenness. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling plots also revealed no effects of microplastics on zooplankton community composition. Our study provides a necessary and realistic baseline on which future studies can build. Because numerous other stressors faced by zooplankton (e.g., food limitation, eutrophication, warming temperatures, pesticides) are likely to exacerbate the effects of microplastics, we caution against concluding that polyester microfibers will always have no effect on zooplankton communities. Instead, we encourage future studies to investigate the triple threats of habitat degradation, climate warming, and microplastic pollution on zooplankton community health.     Abstract Owing to the wavelength-dependent limits of the deep ultraviolet exposure process, the semiconductor industry introduced extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography operating at a 13.5 nm wavelength. Traditional photomasks employ pellicles for protection; however, EUV-specific pellicles are not widely applicable to commercial processes, requiring the development of a EUV photomask cleaning method. In this study, a wet cleaning method for Ta-based EUV photomasks at room temperature was systematically examined in terms of key parameters, including the pattern step height, surface topography, and particulate count, via atomic force microscopy and x-ray reflectivity. Post sulfuric acid-hydrogen peroxide mixture (SPM) treatment, the photomask exhibited a stable step height, indicating minimal pattern degradation. Additionally, discernible alterations in the surface roughness and a decrease in particle count were observed, further indicating to the effectiveness of SPM-mediated cleaning. Conversely, following standard clean-1 (SC-1) treatment, while the pattern step height remained relatively unchanged, a notable increase in surface irregularities and macroscopic particulates was observed, suggesting a suboptimal cleaning efficiency of the SC-1 solution despite its potential for pattern structure preservation. Our room temperature wet cleaning method efficiently reduces wear-out and successfully eliminates contaminants, potentially prolonging the EUV photomask's productivity and durability.

    Abstract Joint modelling of genetic and environmental risk factors can provide important information to predict the risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). Therefore, to predict the genetic risk of T2D, we constructed a polygenic risk score (PRS) using genotype data of one Korean cohort, KARE (745 cases and 2549 controls), and the genome-wide association study summary statistics of Biobank Japan.     Abstract In the evolving landscape of cancer research, the human microbiome emerges as a pivotal determinant reshaping our understanding of tumorigenesis and therapeutic responses. Advanced sequencing technologies have uncovered a vibrant microbial community not confined to the gut but thriving within tumor tissues. Comprising bacteria, viruses, and fungi, this diverse microbiota displays distinct signatures across various cancers, with most research primarily focusing on bacteria. The correlations between specific microbial taxa within different cancer types underscore their pivotal roles in driving tumorigenesis and influencing therapeutic responses, particularly in chemotherapy and immunotherapy. This review amalgamates recent discoveries, emphasizing the translocation of the oral microbiome to the gut as a potential marker for microbiome dysbiosis across diverse cancer types and delves into potential mechanisms contributing to cancer promotion. Furthermore, it highlights the adverse effects of the microbiome on cancer development while exploring its potential in fortifying strategies for cancer prevention and treatment.
