    Abstract Oral cancer is a neoplastic disorder of the oral cavities, including the lips, tongue, buccal mucosa, and lower and upper gums. Oral cancer assessment entails a multistep process that requires deep knowledge of the molecular networks involved in its progression and development. Preventive measures including public awareness of risk factors and improving public behaviors are necessary, and screening techniques should be encouraged to enable early detection of malignant lesions. Herpes simplex virus (HSV), human papillomavirus (HPV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) are associated with other premalignant and carcinogenic conditions leading to oral cancer. Oncogenic viruses induce chromosomal rearrangements; activate signal transduction pathways via growth factor receptors, cytoplasmic protein kinases, and DNA binding transcription factors; modulate cell cycle proteins, and inhibit apoptotic pathways. In this review, we present an up-to-date overview on the use of nanomaterials for regulating viral proteins and oral cancer as well as the role of phytocompounds on oral cancer. The targets linking oncoviral proteins and oral carcinogenesis were also discussed.

    Abstract Objectives: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that function in all biological processes. Recent findings suggest that exosomes, which are small vesicles abundantly secreted by various cell types, can transport miRNAs to target cells. Here, we elucidated the effect of miRNA-loaded exosomes on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in H9c2 cardiomyocytes.
    Materials and methods: Exosomes were isolated from mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and loaded with miR-412-5p. Additionally, the effect of the miR-412-5p-loaded exosomes on LPS-induced inflammation in H9c2 cardiomyocytes was evaluated by assessing the levels of nitric oxide (NO), reactive oxygen species (ROS), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). The expression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), inflammatory cytokines, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling factors was evaluated using reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blotting.
    Results: miR-412-5p-loaded exosomes inhibited LPS-induced secretion of inflammatory mediators (NO, PGE2, and ROS), pro-inflammatory cytokines (
    Conclusion: These findings showed that miR-412-5p-loaded exosomes ameliorated LPS-induced inflammation in H9c2 cardiomyocytes by inhibiting COX-2 and iNOS expression, inflammatory mediators, and pro-inflammatory cytokines via the MAPK pathway. The findings indicate that miR-412-5p-loaded exosomes may be effective for the prevention of myocardial injury.

    Abstract Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP1R) agonist is an incretin hormone and regulates glucose metabolism. However, phthalates, known as endocrine disruptors, can interfere with hormone homeostasis. In the present study, we aimed to estimate the impact of GLP1R agonist on di(2 ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)-induced atherosclerosis. For this purpose, the effects of GLP1R agonist on various atherogenesis-related cellular processes and pathways were assessed in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). DEHP-induced cell proliferation and migration were significantly decreased by GLP1R agonist in VSMCs. Protein levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and MMP-9 were significantly decreased in cells exposed to GLP1R agonist, compared with DEHP-treated cells. Expression levels of intercellular adhesion molecule 1 and vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 were also reduced in GLP1R agonist-treated cells. Similarly, DEHP-associated phosphorylation of protein kinase B and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 was decreased in GLP1R agonist-treated cells, compared with DEHP-treated cells. Our findings suggest that treatment with GLP1R agonist counteracts the activation of pathways related to atherosclerosis.

    Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is defined as a kind of breast cancer that lacks estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptors (HER2). This cancer accounts for 10-15% of all breast cancers and has the features of high invasiveness and metastatic potential. The treatment regimens are still lacking and need to develop novel inhibitors for therapeutic strategies.     Abstract Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is widely used in polyvinylchloride-based materials and remains intact in the environment. Lungs are one route of entry of DEHP into the body; however, there is limited information on the effects and mechanism of action of DEHP on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Here, we addressed this by examining the effect of DEHP on the proliferation of A549 human lung adenocarcinoma cells by MTS assay. The induction of inflammation and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), as well as activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways, were assessed by western blot and real-time polymerase chain reaction. Although there were discrepancies in the concentration, DEHP treatment enhanced A549 cell viability accompanied by increased mRNA and protein levels of inflammation-related factors, such as matrix metalloproteinase-9 and nuclear factor-κB. Additionally, EMT was activated in cells according to decreased E-cadherin and increased vimentin expression. Furthermore, MAPK pathway components, including phosphorylated p38 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase, and Wnt/β-catenin pathway components, including phosphorylated glycogen synthase kinase 3β and β-catenin, as well as their downstream genes c-Myc and cyclin D1, were upregulated in the presence of DEHP. These results suggest that DEHP promotes NSCLC progression by promoting cell proliferation, inflammation, and EMT via activation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling.

    Abstract Purpose of review: Postoperative adhesions remain a clinical challenge to both patients and providers, as they are associated with significant complications and a high economic burden. This article provides a clinical review of currently available antiadhesive agents and promising new therapies that have advanced past animal studies.
    Recent findings: Several agents have been investigated on their ability to reduce adhesion formation; however, there is no widely acceptable option. The few available interventions are barrier agents and while low-quality evidence suggests that they may be more effective than no treatment, there is no general agreement on their overall efficacy. There is an abundance of research on new solutions; however, their clinical efficacy is yet to be determined.
    Summary: Although a wide range of therapeutics have been investigated, majority are halted in animal models with only a select few being studied in humans and ultimately available in the market. Many agents have shown effectiveness in reducing adhesion formation, however, that has not been translated to improvement in clinically relevant outcomes; hence the need for high-quality large randomized trials.

    Abstract Objectives: This cross-sectional study was to determine the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination intention of clinical dental hygienists in South Korea and the factors that influence vaccination intention.
    Methods: COVID-19 vaccination intention of the 500 participants was confirmed through a survey including the following options: 'I will vaccinate (VAC)', 'I will not vaccinate (NoVAC)' and 'I do not know if I should get vaccinated (UNK)'. A Chi-square test was performed to determine whether there were differences in COVID-19 vaccination intention according to the general characteristics of the participants, degree of infection control knowledge (Score-K) and practice (Score-P) in response to COVID-19, fears over COVID-19 (Fear-C) and the level of anxiety before (GAD
    Results: According to the analysis, 44.8%, 18.8% and 36.4% of participants selected VAC, NoVAC and UNK respectively. There were significant differences in vaccination intention according to age, monthly income, residential area, symptoms related to COVID-19, Score-K, Fear-C and GAD
    Conclusions: The variables influencing vaccination intention were monthly income, residential area, Score-K and Fear-C.

    Abstract Evidence on the effectiveness of melatonin in breast cancer patients suffering from sleep disturbances is contradictory, and there have been no meta-analyses on its use in humans with breast cancer. This study investigated the melatonin supplementation effectiveness in alleviating sleep disturbances in breast cancer patients. We searched Embase, PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, and Clinical trial.org databases for relevant reports by following PRISMA guidelines and collected clinical experimental studies of melatonin supplementation in breast cancer patients. Breast cancer for the population, melatonin supplementation for intervention, including sleep indicator, cancer treatment-related symptoms for outcomes, and clinical trial for humans were the searched keywords. Among the 1917 identified records, duplicates and irrelevant articles were excluded. Among the 48 full-text articles assessed, 10 studies met the criteria for inclusion in a systematic review, and five studies had sleep-related indicators and were included in the meta-analysis after quality assessment. The estimated average effect size (Hedges' g) was -0.79 (
