Abstract Objectives: Nursing students do not only have to understand the content they read, but they must also analyze, synthesize, and think critically as these skills are required for success in clinical practice. This review investigates if testing reading in students can predict outcomes of student success in nursing programs.
Design: A scoping review of the literature on reading assessments in nursing education.
Data sources: Databases explored included CINAHL, ERIC, and MEDLINE and included English language papers published from January 2001 to November 2022.
Review methods: Joanna Briggs Institute scoping review methods informed this review.
Results: Data were extracted from 34 full text papers and dissertations. All papers examined reading as an independent predictor of outcomes such as NCLEX-RN success, program completion, or early program success. Various reading tests delivered at admission were more likely to predict proximal outcomes such as early program success rather than more distal outcomes such as NCLEX-RN failure or program completion.
Conclusion: Reading assessments are effective predictors of a student's potential for academic success in nursing programs which has many implications for admission and progression policies. Many areas for future research are proposed including examining the developmental nature of reading improvement across nursing programs, development of reading interventions, and building faculty capacity for reading support. This body of literature said very little about the impact of race and racism on reading as they relate to academic outcomes which also must receive attention in future research.

Abstract Ensuring the prediction accuracy of a learning algorithm on a theoretical basis is crucial and necessary for building the reliability of the learning algorithm. This paper analyzes prediction error obtained through the least square estimation in the generalized extreme learning machine (GELM), which applies the limiting behavior of the Moore-Penrose generalized inverse (M-P GI) to the output matrix of ELM. ELM is the random vector functional link (RVFL) network without direct input to output links Specifically, we analyze tail probabilities associated with upper and lower bounds to the error expressed by norms. The analysis employs the concepts of the L

Title translation Organization of further education in general and visceral surgery in a specialized hospital.
Abstract Background: The newly implemented further education regulations of the Medical Association of the Federal States leads to changes in for residents in training as well as for licensed trainers.
Objective: The aim is the illustration of the effect on the residency of general and visceral surgery as well as the additional training for specialized visceral surgery from the perspective of a specialized center.
Material and methods: Comparison of the (model) further education regulations 2018 of the Medical Association of the Federal States with the further education regulations 2004 exemplified by the Bavarian Federal Chamber of Physicians.
Results: The documentation effort for the continuous acquisition of competences is clearly increased and also the required reference numbers especially for diagnostic skills in the course of the specialist training in visceral surgery as well as the surgical skills for acquisition of the additional designation of specialized visceral surgery. The designation of medical specialist for general surgery was retained.
Conclusion: Whether the changes due to the new further education regulations, such as increased documentation effort and the rotation of residents in training that is necessary in most hospitals without resource compensation, will lead to an improvement of specialist training and attraction of the profession in the setting of a specialized center remains to be elucidated.

Abstract This paper aims to explore how to help terminally ill patients and their families find meaning in their suffering from the logotherapeutic perspective, which is the essence of palliative care. For this purpose, this paper examines the main concepts and principles of logotherapy, and specific approaches based on the logotherapeutic perspective to help terminally ill patients and their families find meaning in life are presented. Emphasizing the will to meaning as the primary motive to explain human behaviors and based on its unique perspective of the human being, which is called the dimensional ontology, logotherapy considers the human being to consist of the body, the mind, and the spirit. The dimensional ontology implies that the human being "has" the body and the mind, but the human being "is" the spirit itself. Therefore, even though a human being can be sick physically or psychologically, Accordingly, it is essential to help these patients realize that they are not their illnesses, but just have them, and to rise above themselves to reach out toward something meaningful or someone to love; despite their suffering, they can still do something meaningful, even in a small way. Above all, the most important thing for these patients is to acknowledge that they have already lived a meaningful life and to believe that their meaningful work has been safely preserved in the past and nothing can take it from them, for as spiritual beings, their lives have been meaningful unconditionally.

Abstract The gastrointestinal (GI) tract of ruminants contains diverse microbes that ferment various feeds ingested by animals to produce various fermentation products, such as volatile fatty acids. Fermentation products can affect animal performance, health, and well-being. Within the GI microbes, the ruminal microbes are highly diverse, greatly contribute to fermentation, and are the most important in ruminant nutrition. Although traditional cultivation methods provided knowledge of the metabolism of GI microbes, most of the GI microbes could not be cultured on standard culture media. By contrast, amplicon sequencing of 16S rRNA genes can be used to detect unculturable microbes. Using this approach, ruminant nutritionists and microbiologists have conducted a plethora of nutritional studies, many including dietary interventions, to improve fermentation efficiency and nutrient utilization, which has greatly expanded knowledge of the GI microbiota. This review addresses the GI content sampling method, 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis and then discusses recent studies on the various factors, such as diet, breed, gender, animal performance, and heat stress, that influence the GI microbiota and thereby ruminant nutrition.

Abstract This study investigates the use of live streaming as a strategic tool in the tourism industry, with a focus on the attributes of live streamers that influence viewer engagement, particularly in the context of South Korea's digital landscape. The purpose of this research is to understand how the attractiveness, trustworthiness, and expertise of live streamers can affect the parasocial relationships-characterized by perceived friendship and trust-between viewers and streamers and how these relationships subsequently influence viewer loyalty and cooperation intentions. A quantitative research methodology was employed, utilizing a structured online survey distributed by a leading market research agency in South Korea. The survey targeted a diverse demographic to ensure a comprehensive analysis of digital consumer behavior in the tourism sector. Data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics 28.0 and IBM SPSS Amos 28.0, employing structural equation modeling to test the hypothesized relationships. The results revealed that while attractiveness and trustworthiness impact perceived friendship, only expertise significantly affects trust for a travel live streamer. Furthermore, perceived friendship plays a crucial role in fostering loyalty to and cooperation with the streamer, having practical implications for the tourism industry in terms of crafting marketing strategies and training digital ambassadors. Th study extends parasocial interaction theory to the digital travel domain, providing original insights into virtual tourist behavior and highlighting live streaming's significant contribution to viewer engagement. This research has limitations in its geographical focus on South Korea, suggesting the need for cross-cultural studies to validate the findings. Overall, this study offers valuable contributions to the academic literature and practical guidance for the tourism industry, emphasizing the importance of digital personalities in post-pandemic tourism recovery strategies.
