Abstract "It could be said that the first instance of assisted reproductive technology was when an eminent surgeon, John Hunter (1728-1793) of London, assisted a woman in becoming pregnant by taking a semen sample produced by her husband, who had hypospadias, and inseminating her with that specimen. This was an "assisted conception", although it is not strictly within the definition of the present day assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs), which involve the manipulation of sperm, oocytes and embryos in vitro, and include"--

Abstract Drug repurposing is a strategy for discovering new applications of existing drugs for use in various diseases. Despite the use of structured networks in drug research, it is still unclear how drugs interact with one another or with genes. Prostate adenocarcinoma is the second leading cause of cancer mortality in the United States, with an estimated incidence of 288,300 new cases and 34,700 deaths in 2023. In our study, we used integrative information from genes, pathways, and drugs for machine learning methods such as clustering, feature selection, and enrichment pathway analysis. We investigated how drugs affect drugs and how drugs affect genes in human pancreatic cancer cell lines that were derived from bone metastases of grade IV prostate cancer. Finally, we identified significant drug interactions within or between clusters, such as estradiol-rosiglitazone, estradiol-diclofenac, troglitazone-rosiglitazone, celecoxib-rofecoxib, celecoxib-diclofenac, and sodium phenylbutyrate-valproic acid.

Abstract Aim: This study was a descriptive correlation investigation to determine the effects of metacognition and self-directed learning readiness on learning performance of nursing students in online practice classes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Design and methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 135 subjects were randomly selected from junior students of one university in South Korea.
    Results: In this study, metacognitive knowledge in nursing students showed a positive relationship with subjective learning performance (r = 0.34, p = 0.002) and objective learning performance (r = 0.38, p = 0.016). Metacognitive control in nursing students also showed a positive relationship with subjective learning performance (r = 0.37, p = 0.001) and objective learning performance (r = 0.41, p < 0.001). Self-directed learning readiness in nursing students showed a positive relationship with subjective learning performance (r = 0.38, p = 0.011) and objective learning performance (r = 0.40, p < 0.001).
Conclusion: For effective online practical education, nursing students' internal characteristics of metacognition and self-directed learning should be identified in advance, and schools should strive to help nursing students' learning performance by developing and applying education systems or contents.

Abstract The mammalian brain develops in an intensely social context, with parents typically providing a primary source of early stimulation and regulation for the infant. Across species, patterns of the infant's early interaction with the first social partner-the parent-prospectively predict a wide range of developmental outcomes. Although animal models have paved the way toward understanding how postnatal social interactions affect neurodevelopment and translate into stable patterns of developmental outcomes, the research on corresponding mechanisms in humans is still in its nascent stage because of methodological and ethical challenges.

Abstract Skin aging is a complex process influenced by intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Although dermatology offers advanced interventions, molecular mechanisms in skin aging remain limited. Competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs), a subset of coding or non-coding RNAs, regulate gene expression through miRNA competition. Several ceRNA networks investigated up to now offer insights into skin aging and wound healing. In skin aging, RP11-670E13.6-miR-663a-CDK4/CD6 delays senescence induced by UVB radiation. Meg3-miR-93-5p-epiregulin contributes to UVB-induced inflammatory skin damage. Predicted ceRNA networks reveal UVA-induced photoaging mechanisms. SPRR2C sequesters miRNAs in epidermal aging-associated alteration of calcium gradient. H19-miR-296-5p-IGF2 regulates dermal fibroblast senescence. PVT1-miR-551b-3p-AQP3 influences skin photoaging. And bioinformatics analyses identify critical genes and compounds for skin aging interventions. In skin wound healing, MALAT1-miR-124 aids wound healing by activating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway. Hair follicle MSC-derived H19 promotes wound healing by inhibiting pyroptosis. And the SAN-miR-143-3p-ADD3 network rejuvenates adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in wound healing. Thus, ceRNA networks provide valuable insights into the molecular underpinnings of skin aging and wound healing, offering potential therapeutic strategies for further investigation. This comprehensive review serves as a foundational platform for future research endeavors in these crucial areas of dermatology.
