Abstract The temporal diversity of 11 morphological features of both shell valves in eight cultivated samples of the Japanese scallop M. yessoensis from Alexeev Bay (Popov Island, Sea ofJapan) at different ages and from different generations was analyzed. The sample diversity with respect to each investigated feature was observed. The sample differences in the studied features as well as shell valve variability within the sample were demonstrated to be determined by both mollusk age and sample generation. This phenomenon is considered to be the result of differences in the environmental influence on each mollusk generation under constant technological conditions.

Abstract The season and age-related dependence of the distribution of the frequency of alleles and of five polymorphous loci have been studied for eight cultivated samples of the Japanese scallop M. yessoensis (Jay) from Alexeev Bay (Popov Island, Sea of Japan) using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The consistency of the frequency of alleles and of heterozygotes was revealed for samples with an age greater than one year independently of the season and age. Samples of the younger (11 months) mollusks can have reliable deviations of the frequency of allele and of heterozygotes. However, as the sample reaches a certain age, these genetic parameters correspond to values general to the whole population. The episodic influence of ecological factors on the younger age groups of mollusks is discussed.

Abstract Age-related variation in the absolute and relative adductor weight has been studied for 8 years in six samples of Japanese scallops Mizuhopecten yessoensis (Jay) of different generations from a shellfish farm in Alekseev Bight, Sea of Japan. The test character has proved to vary widely within the samples, with variation in shell size being relatively low. It has been shown that the dependence of adductor weight on the age of the scallop is not absolute: even-aged samples from different generations may differ significantly in this character. It is assumed that this effect is due to the influence of environmental factors on the development of scallops at early stages, which is especially strong under conditions of dense spat planting in the course of cultivation.

Abstract The polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis technique was used for comparison of common protein of body wall tissues in five species of Lumbricidae (Eisenia nordenskioldi, E.fetida, Lumbricus rubellus, Aporrectodea caliginosa, A. longa). The statistic processing of indexes of electrophoretic similarity revealed three levels of similarity: intraspecies, interspecies, and intergenus. It was discovered that the similarity of E. nordenskioldi and E.fetida proteins corresponded to the intergenus level. The use of this method for determination of the earthworm's taxonomic status is discussed.

Abstract Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was used to study the allelic frequency distribution of four polymorphic loci (Pox, Lap, Pgm, and Odh) in 22 samples of Eisenia foetida (Sav.) from distant parts of the range: European Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. A hierarchical population structure was demonstrated for this species: local populations are integrated into spatial groups. Statistical analysis of morphological variation demonstrated that recognition of the spatial groups on the basis of biochemical and genetic characters as individual taxa of any rank is not justified.

Title translation Effect of genotypes of unspecific esterases and leucine aminopeptidase loci on the temporal dynamics of morphological variation in the black sea mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis Lam.
Abstract In the Black Sea mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis Lam., the dependence of variation in 21 morphological characters of the shell on the genotype at the polymorphic loci encoding unspecific esterases and leucine aminopeptidase was estimated by means of ANOVA in 12 samples differing in age and belonging to different generations. The genotype at these loci was found to have no constant influence on the dynamics of variation in any morphological character. The effect of the parameters of polymorphism was ambiguous: a factor having a significant effect on a certain character in one sample might have no such effect (or produce an effect on a different character) in another sample. A directional change in the significant effect of genotypes during a certain period of generation's lifetime was revealed. The dependence of the effect of polymorphism at the studied loci on ecological conditions is discussed.

Title translation Genetic aspects of species structure of the compost worm Eisenia foetida (Sav.) (Oligochaeta, Lumbricidae).
Abstract Distribution of frequencies alleles of polymorphous loci of peroxidase (Pox), leucineaminopeptidase (Lap), phosphoglucomutase (Pgm) and octanoldehydrogenase (Odh) were studied by electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel in 22 local samples of Esenia foetida in Russia (European part), Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Kirghizia. The samples form two spatial groups--"northern" and "southern", distinguished by set of alleles in every studied locus. The "northern" groups is formed by local populations of European Russia from Murmansk region on the north to Smolensk region on the south, and also by cultivated population of selection line "red California hybrid". The "southern" group is formed by local populations on the territory of Russia from middle Volga to the North Caucasus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, cultivated populations from Kirghizia and Portugal. High degree of genetic difference between samples and independence of alleles frequencies distribution from geographical location and habitat allows to consider almost all studied groups as separate populations. Statistical processing of Nei genetic distances (Nei, 1972) revealed reliable differences between averages of within- and intergroup distances. Besides, discrete differences between intervals of significance of genetic distances were revealed. The results indicate that on the studied territory E. foetida has hierarchical two level structure. The first level is formed by local populations differed by frequency of the same alleles. The second level is formed by local populations, united into spatial groups, that are qualitatively distinguished by the set of alleles in the same loci.

Abstract The genetic diversity of Lumbricus rubellus Hoffm. earthworms collected in different parts of the Moscow and Kiev regions was studied by means of electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel, using the loci encoding unspecific esterases and generic proteins as biochemical-genetic markers. A considerable diversity of samples in all alleles of these loci was revealed. With respect to allele frequencies of the locus My1, the samples from the Moscow and Kiev regions formed two genetically distinct spatial groups. Within these groups, the samples were genetically heterogeneous, and each of them could be regarded as an individual population.
